hello matty, i had it built on an anshutz 1730 hornet action,as to the cost of the round to reload i've never worked it out but a tub of n120 gives about 1250 reloads so its not going to be to far from 25-30p a reload.The cz is a good action with a trigger job and a bit of work to get the mag to feed,as to accuracy atb paul

having used a 17 ackley hornet for a few years,after having a hmr there is no comparison between the two,one is a 150 yard rabbit gun in good conditions and the other a 300 yard rabbit gun in the same conditions.If you are looking for a round for rabbits and Fox's out to 200 yards look no further than the 17 ackley hornet,loaded with a 20 grn vmax at 3800 it has more energy at 200 yard than the hmr has at the muzzle,is flat out to 200 yards and drifts significantly less in the wind atb paul

after boiling out the roe trophy i shot a couple of weeks ago,i weighed it and with a full scull it weighs 730 gms,so as a rough guide how much can i expect it to drop over 90 days. atb paul

had an invite up to steve bowers's patch to try for a good roe buck,got to steves about 4pm yesterday after a quick cupper we set off,got to the farm where he keeps the quad and set off,the weather wasn't the best with heavy showers and high winds but we spotted a few roe out and about but as we were after a good one we gave them a miss and carried on around the estate to a patch where steve knew there was a good buck. we came to a ridge overlooking a vally with three plantations set out in a triangle,so we glassed the fields in between and a big buck was spotted with about a half a dozen doe

I don't think it's anythink magic and I only shoot out to 110m. And yes I do miss a few out there but not many. I use the calulator from the Big Game Info website and found it matched my rifle very well. I also find that I don't need to read the wind as where I shoot has plenty of trees around to reduce the wind enough not to bother with it. yes its the 22 hornet necked down and blown out by fire forming in the chamber,i've shot rabbits at over 300 yards with mine in perfect conditions,as to the forming of the case one pass through the seating die then full length size the case and your are ready to go,fireform by shooting things.i have a couple of faster and more powerfull round in my gun cabinet but with out a doubt this is my favorite round heres a pic of the round between the hmr and 22 hornet case atb paul

But realistically all i need is a 150 yards quite fox round which i can reload myself. how about a 17 ackley hornet,no recoil,3600-3700 fps with a 20grn vmax with only 11.5-12 grns of powder a solid 250 yard rabbit gun unlike the hmr and no fox will get up with a good hit inside 200 yards, atb paul

here's a pic of the rounds to help with any confusion 17 mach 2,17 hmr,17 rem fireball,17 remington as to the 17 rem as a foxing tool,i haven't used one myself but know somebody who has,a flat shooting round out to about 250yards but with light bullets wind will have a hand in its accuracy at the longer ranges. atb paul

got to the fields for 5.30,didn't see much for a the first hour or so,then spotted a roe buck crossing a field about 300 yards away my mate said he would probably come out in a gully to our left about 200 yards away,so we made our way slowly down to the bottom of the field glassing to see if the buck was still heading in the same direction,we got to the corner of the field just as the buck started to make his way through the hedge in front of us at about 60 yards i dropped down on the bipod and the first buck was down,saw a couple of does but no more bucks so home for breakfast and back out in

had an invite from a mate to do a bit of stalking and lamping up near Daventry,got to his house about 7pm Saturday had a quick bite to eat and made for the fields to have a look about to get the lie of the land.got back out at about 11pm with the lamp over the next 3hrs we seen 9 fox's and managed to put 6 in the bag decided to call it a night as we'd be back in the fields for 5am for a go at the deer

thats wicked mate! what is it? i suppose you could just use piece of marine ply with a hole cut out of it too i guess. its a defender with a sunroof fitted in the back,with a roofrack cut and fitted with ply.It's about the best setup for lamping as the driver can lamp and the rifle is always looking over the beam. atb paul With your Ackley's, your Prac 20 and 360* vision day and night, you must be one vermin exterminator.
