  1. Some good advice all, I went to my nearest gun shop very recently at Clayworth  to purchase some .17hmr ammo, so I bought x3 boxes of 20grns Winchesters, when I got home I found that x2 of the boxes there seals were broken so I inspected box No1 and found a mixture of types of bullet head crimping and x1 round was missing, I then moved onto box 2 with its seal broken as well and (see Photo) found that x2 of the rounds were ballistic tips one of those rounds had a very badly split case and also x1 empty shell case, I immediately contacted the shop concerned, he was very apologetic, but seemed more upset that I had contacted the shop via email of which he said had not go directly to him.

So all please inspect your ammo boxes and do not accept them if the seals are broken, obviously I have now totally lost my trust with this particular shop, who knows what they could sell me next.

P/S These were his last 3 boxes he had in stock.

The round that looks empty I found later on has a bullet head dropped into the case and it also had no power, could have been a disaster if it had popped up and held itself in place and then been fired with primer only.

  2. Like all Thermal the more you pay the better image quality you get IMO, I'm running thermal scope and thermal spotter both cost me a fortune but there worth it, and yes you don't have go thermal to get the job done, I also run a Pard 007 which I use for foxing it does the job.

  3. I use a Garmin 62st GPS all the time on large golf courses, because I use markers that look like just a bit of debris, I have to to prevent traps being taken, so GPS gets me down to less than 2 mtrs, I also mostly only use putanges which are almost invisible to the naked eye to locate.

When I get home I download data onto oogle earth just remind me and also a back for my own memory.

It can be very easy just to mislay a trap or two so GPS is great addition to my armory.

The bloke I spoke to (Peter) said that an 8ft was easy to make but the 15ft is a lot harder and they were struggling to make them reliable and reasonable sized.

Id agree, the main thing I’ve heard is people wanting a range more than 8ft

I agree 16ft to scan for ferrets is far more preferred imo, together with reasonable pinpointing.

  5. I'm not concerned or worried about the rifle or with the accuracy or the ammo's performance that I use, just curious that if it had been a 1-12 that I might had pushed up a bit in bullet weight, but as you all say theirs nothing to worry about and that I agree with, just curious old me lol.

But could it  not possibly be as Ref: my first post  why some rifles of same make and model might prefer a different round ? food for though.

Is it not shooting accurately ?

The gun is shooting fine and accurate, I thought that I would check its twist rate just out of curiosity as I had read somewhere that mistakes in barrel twist rates can happen, also I am shooting 55 grn so just checking up on the gun.

  7. Just check my 22.250 Tika T3x Light barrel twist rate, I am getting 1-13 after countless attempts, I am following the correct procedure, the advertised rate is 1-14 or 1-12, but it is said that mistakes can happen in production, so were am I (1-13) ? or what, anyone else had this discrepancy.

  8. Stick a rod up tail after washing Meths away, then when tail shrinks to rod pull out, this keeps some dimension to skin on tail so when you manipulate tail with hands for a while to get that nice floppy fox tail.

I wash Meths out with wash tablet, then condition with minus's hair conditioner lol and then rinse, then dry on a rod.

  9. I use near zero on windy days, then double check at 100 when conditions allow.

Also I stopped cleaning my barrel after every trip, this I have found gives me for more consistency with up to around 50+ rounds, clean the breach though, I now clean the barrel when I start to loose consistency then check zero on range.

Wait I thought these were invasive ? you have to be licensed to remove an invasive species?

This was there reason for refusal.

    Dear applicant

Thank you for your application to trap signal crayfish. Unfortunately on this occasion we must decline your application.

Yorkshire and its surrounding counties do not allow crayfish trapping due to risks associated with the activity.

The three main reasons for this decision are....

    • The risk of spreading invasive crayfish and aquatic diseases through the use of traps and other equipment.

Traps and associated equipment are excellent vectors for invasive crayfish and aquatic diseases to reach new waters. As they are usually left unattended underwater, they can be taken by uninformed or malicious parties and used between waters easily by people who are unaware of the bio-security risks.

    • Impacts on our native White-clawed crayfish populations

In Yorkshire we are lucky to still have populations of White-clawed crayfish and despite intense conservation efforts the species is still under threat.

Signal crayfish can carry a disease which is fatal to our native White-clawed crayfish. This crayfish plague is spread by a fungus which can wipe out a population in a matter of weeks.

There is also the risk of misidentification of species. Although crayfish can be distinctive, it is sometimes not as easy as it seems to identify species correctly.

    • Trapping crayfish is often not an effective method of control and often leads to an increase in populations

Research has shown that trapping signal crayfish targets the dominant males, this removes the top predator from within the signal crayfish population. This allows younger less dominant males to breed more prolifically, leading to a population expansion. Trapping is therefore often counterproductive.

For further information on crayfish we suggest you visit the following websites which offer much more detailed explanations on the subject.

We hope this explains the reasoning behind our decision to decline your application. If you would like to discuss this matter further please contact us via the consenting email address (fmapplications@environment-agency.gov.uk)

Yes mate very good eating. The problem is getting a license from EA they won’t issue any north of Birmingham due to small pockets of native crayfish.

I had same problem up here in Nottinghamshire tried doing all legit but they wouldn't licence me,they gave a bag of

sh-t reasons for not doing so.

Red area only they will probably licence you if you apply. It was around 2 yrs ago that I  applied.
