I found him very frustrating to watch, his starting position was so f***ing dumb sometimes as was his running. He was quick and had no need to be right on the shoulder of the centre back and because he was quick he got called offside loads of times even when he wasn’t . He could have given almost any defender in the world 2 or 3 yards and still had the drop on them or bent his runs a bit more. i have seen games when he had been getting great service, outstanding service and scored one and been offside about 8 fecking times......a Ronaldo or Vieri of that time would have had a ha

I’ll stick my neck out here and say the 98 World Cup was a pivotal moment for football.....so many good players, so many good teams showing just what can be achieved if you get the youth systems right and bring players on right. It, to me, was a display of football and talent the likes of which the world had never seen......certainly not in my lifetime anyway. Personally, it will stand out as my favourite World Cup ever.

As much as Bobby More holds a place in the heart of every West Ham and England fan the fact is they just could not have coped the last 25 years.......f**k me, they were at the full English over the cafe match day mornings!! Bonzo was second to none in keeping himself in shape and did so well into his 40s. Van Nistleroy was class, but is he up there with the great No.10s.......I don’t think so.

Ronaldo was the best centre forward I personally have ever seen. His running off the ball was class and with the ball at his feet he was as fast and strong as you will see......not bad for a fat lad. And he did it in Holland, Spain, Italy and on the international stage.

Good calls there mate, I like it. Like anything football and how it should be played/players you rate is a personal thing. However much I watch Christiano I just can not bring myself to see what all the fuss is about. I think his attitude is very questionable and to me, attitude is everything in football. As Stiffmiester said, funny how people see different thing. What I do think is true is that modern rules and refereeing allow mediocre players to look very good.

1st WW, 20th century weapons and 18th century tactics......terrible. Was looking yesterday, 51 blokes from the little town in Ireland near me were killed. the modern day population is only 2000 must have been about 1200 then. 2nd WW my old man would have been 98 this coming February. Joined in 1936 And was part of the BEF, they sent them lads over to fight the most modern army the world had ever seen with absolute shite kit sometimes only 10 rounds for outdated weapons. My old fella and his pals were some of the many that got left behind to fight the rear guard action

“World class players do not perform like that.....” Well, you know I’m going to totally agree with that last sentence. He lacks everything that we think is required of a player with regards to strength, pace etc but by f**k he had vision.....he could see things other players could not. Thats what was special.

Andrea Pirlo retired this week, I just thought the retirement of such a great player was worthy of a mention. Probably one of the greatest examples of how football is played with your brain as much as anything and one of the great exponents of the creative midfielders art. Thanks for the memories......and for making Joe Heart look a cock with your penalty skills !
