  1. the problem you are going to have is theres still lots of young rabbits about,,the ferrets will catch them easy and then the wait,,now once you have a locator mark on the ferret, you can start digging only to find a 4week old rabbit and the ferret has moved onto the next young un,there could be half a dozen underground,,its best to sit it out for a bit otherwise the field will be full of digs,,you may be lucky enough to have a ferret that will kill the little uns and then clear the bury,,fingers crossed?also because the young rabbits will get through most 2 and quarter inch squares in a purse net,if they bolt they will run to the next hole,,,you need a good dog to stop that happening or a shotgun..i was out ferreting last week and the ground is like rock due to us having no rain saying that my freezer is full up with rabbits for the polecats and lurcher,,so it was worth us going there

  2. Neighbour of mine just dropped some frozen day old chicks off. They were been used for feeding the barn olws in the snow...

I know they won't have much nutritional value but just wondering if they will be ok to feed to my ferrets as a supplement to their usual diet? Or are there reason not to feed them to the ferrets? (bones etc)

Don't have much knowledge on day olds so any advice is greatly received. Thank you, NEHunter

fed my animals them for years,,,i was told the roughage in them will clean the ferrets intestines of worms,my polecats love them,,

  3. 2008 daystate airwolf in .177 with niko sterling niteater scopes, mounts, weirach silencer conversion, sling, bag, firearms cabinet, deben tracer mini lamp,batteries,charger,,232 bar diving bottle,,all in as new condition collect only neath south wales,,£800

  4. just to give you an idea of what i feed mine,,,1 whole adult rabbit cut up in sections will feed my 7 polecats on a daily basis,,the rabbits are gutted out in the field and then frozen back home.livers, kidneys, hearts left in them,i also feed them day old chicks simply because a day olds will pass through the gut of a ferret and clean out any internal worms,,,i feed the polecats farmed white rats,,tripe from the slaughterhouse they have as well, they also are fed a mixture of other stuff i shoot with the gun,,they also get a dry food biscuit alpha or james wellbeloved now and again,,milk is always watered down as a treat ,,fresh water is always available,,its best to feed the ferrets little but often,,dont go placing a whole rabbit in the hutch for two ferrets to eat,it will be maggot ridden in a couple of days..as you can see i feed mine mainly meat but find a good quality ferret biscuit they like and if you cannot get rabbits, etc buy some liver or kidneys, turkey meat from the supermarket as a treat,,stay away from pork its normally pumped with salt,,

  5. Hi guys,

I'm writing from a television production company in London called Fresh One Productions where I'm doing research for a new series we're making for Channel 4 about British food. We'll be filming in the Rhondda valley next week (beginning 16/5/11) and we're looking for someone who shoots or traps rabbits in the area to help us with a sequence. If anyone might be able to help please email alex.buxton@freshone.tv.

    Many thanks,

    Alex

any rabbits left in the rhondda ,,,its got to be a wind up,,,

  6. I am using Bisley pest control pellets. I was speaking to a lad at work today and he said set it at about 35 yards with the scope set at 4x magnification?

I have never had a scope with zoom so it's all new to me lol.

hi my gun is a daystate airwolf in .177 with a niko sterling niteater 4 x16x50..my mag is on 6 ,,,when i zero the gun i pace out 25yds set out a plain piece of a4 paper ,,,aim at centre and where the pellet lands aim at the pellet hole again then work from there,,,a lot of my rabbit shooting are around 25yds to 30yds,,,i dont shoot over my capabilities,,its not fair to the bunny,,,always head shots,,,no body shots,,,,be a master at 25yds shooting than an idiot missing things and wounding rabbits at 50yds,,,

  7. Getting a ferret for the lad is what I told the missus but it's for me haha just wondering about nets and where to get them how much and what not I only gunna need a few as the permissions warrens are no more than 8 holes big as I can make out. All help aprechiated

hi mate get the s410 better gun than the bsa ..go for .177 better trajectory,,must be head shot though,,i am using a daystate airwolf in .177 awesome for rabbit control,,shot plenty with it,,

  9. so again lots of views on the animal which is a born killer of rabbit,,love them or hate them,,,james mackay has been selling them for years,,in the right hands perfect rabbit control partners,,,in the wrong hands waste of hutch space, dont handle, skulkers,,,last years litters went to working homes and pet homes,,,all still alive and have bolted rabbits,no problems,,,a lot of people on most sites talk about rabbit control and like everything else a master in the sport,,,i work my polecats and ferrets, lurcher,,i dont go asking people have you got a spare rabbit for my 10 ferrets,,,simply i catch them myself, unfortunately if you keep working animals get out there and learn the art and what its about then dictate about them/if you havent kept them dont slag the animal down,,number of times i get asked have you got spare rabbit when the guys got bloody ferrets of his own,,,same on most sites lads i expect critisism and i enjoy the crack, but it pisses me off when i know someones talking bullshit like i said proof is here come and see them,,,, i have been asked to cross my wild hob with a mink,,nice cross that will be,,,i will have polecat x black eyed silver kits hopefully,,,i am from neath south wales and over the last couple of years my polecat youngsters have been used in the sport of rabbiting,,ratting,,with no skulkers,,

  11. ,,you do not need a license and its not against the law to keep them,,,firstly none of my wild polecats latch on to me,last years litter i bred were given away to a few genuine rabbiting boys which i knew would give them a go on the rabbiting later in the season,,i can name two lads which have just kept them as pets...the rabbiting lads are chuffed with them ,,,obviously a bit stronger on the rabbit which will lead to a dig,,handling wise have been ok apart from ade33uk on this site which is struggling a bit with the jill i gave him,ade has had two from me a young hob last year and a jill later in the year, the hob is handling well but the jill which went to someone else again a well known ferret keeper but he couldnt do anything with her, even my wife could handle last years kits,,that just says it all,,i had the jill back for a few months before ade had her,she has calmed down a bit now,,i have offered to take her back,,,,why i breed them is the next subject its not money ,,i will be happy to give them away but what i have found unless i know the person if its for nowt especially these animals ,,,knock it on the head,,a term i have heard in the past, simply because they put them in the hutch and dont handle them and dont know how to handle the animal,,,,they are not for timid ferret keepers,,,i keep them on the looks they are stunning powerful animals,,,i keep a first x which i bred last year and she will not leave a rabbit warren until its empty,,i do hell of a lot of rabbit control,,anyone in south wales who wants to see them are most welcome,,,,if you dont like the idea of keeping these polecats thats up to you but dont put people off,if you have kept bred and worked them,by all means lets have your say on these animals,,and get in touch with me,,,

  12. Not being funny but if you are breeding them in captivity, they are by definition, 'not wild'.

ok,,,,,both parents were trapped from different parts of the country,,hob was from scottish borders and the jill from mid wales,,,the youngsters will be captive bred wild polecats if that helps you....the reason for me putting them as wild polecats is exactly that,i bred a wild hob and jill,,they are not crossed to other polecat colours which i have at home,,,i kept a jill from last years litter which i bred with a polecat coloured hob which i stated i will have first cross litters as well....

  13. My poleys will be free ,(donation gratefully recieved), good homes only though no part timers who will handle them once in a blue moon and then get rid when they are biting to much .. also in West Glam ..and if the vac hob i put over my jills has got them pregnant which is looking more likely everyday (hope its phantom) ,I will be paying people to take them away lol

give me £100 and i will take the litter of you,,,..i dont do part time i work shifts...gary

  14. i might be in inetrested in a jill pal keep us posted ;)

ok mate no probs,,,i have had these polecats for a number of years,,,no doubt a couple of boys on here have had the youngsters from me i have sold a good few last year,,,most have used them late in the season and have done well with them,,,,

  15. anyone wishing to take on wild polecats let me know...i keep and breed them ,,,just bred a litter of pure wild ones and a couple of litters of first x,,,these are not for first time ferret keepers ,,,they tend to be timid and can give you one hell of a bite,,,i own a few and all can be handled,,,,last years litters were very dark,,,they can be handled if you are prepared to put lots of time into them,,,,,,if you look at james bradleys latest dvd for a few ferrets more he is handling one exactly like the ones i breed, very dark....

Where in south wales are you how old are they and how much are they thanks

west glamorgan,,,,they are not born yet,,,bred them a couple of weeks ago just finding out if any interest on here,,,,£20 each
