  1. The rear adjustment (ocular) will provide a method of making the reticle clear at least and fine tune the image.. You may need to adjust the objective (if you can) to adjust the parallax to your chosen zero distance. If you can, adjust the ocular to get a decent reticle picture. If this is ok, undo the objective ring if it has one and then screw the objective lens clockwise/anti-clockwise until the image is sharp at your chosen distance. Then re-tighten the objective ring when done. Nevertheless the scope isn't ideal. We can't see if it has a readily adjustable objective lens so if you take of
  2. There is one out there in the UK that covers all your bases but knows that it's customers want the space-age stocks that separate them from the standard offerings. Despite producing hand-made rifle actions they know It's the stock that provides the functionality and the lumps of crap that make a difference to their performance. Look at the way AA and HW are going with the sporters currently, laminated stocks sell and the manufacturers know it. You could put the finest grade sporter stock on my rifle but I will go for functionality over form as a target shooter. On the Daystate front I have
  3. When you find a job you love to do you'll never have to work again.
  4. I wish. One more thing about the Hawke brand; their after sales service is spot on. I haven't used them for anything other than getting a case for my binoculars that I lost but I have read so much about how quick they are to look after us customers. MTC also have good rep in that department.
  5. Yes. There is one for sale on these boards; boxer has one for sale now. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/323632-air-arms-rifles-stocks-scopes-pumps/
  6. Probably the best glass I ever looked through was a lightstream scope; certainly on a par with the alphas (count Nikon in that) but the reticle wasn't for me. I will sacrifice a smidgeon of image quality for a ret that I can take to. I picked up my Varmint for £ (a week old).
  7. Another thing about the Panorama is that when you get used to them any other scope is like looking down a drinking straw. Picture acquisition is much quicker. Stick with 40mm for HFT as it will give a slightly lower depth of field.
  8. I have been using a new Varmint 4-16 x 44 on my Ripley. For two years I have put a Panorama 4-12x0 on every rifle I owned (lot's) and vowed not to change. This scope is impressing me a lot especially the side focus. I hit the objective of my Panorama on a wooden pallet during a competition recently and lost zero. That isn't gonna happen on the Varmint with SF. For the price it really is a good scope.
  9. I have a few 4-12 x 40's with both 1/2 mil-dot and MAP6A. The MAP6A is a much less cluttered affair and provides stadia lines where the MAP6 has oval markers. The reticle is very fine, sometimes difficult to see in the shade but the blue ir is very effective. I mostly shoot HFT to reasonable effect and I value a decent ret over minuscule differences is glass quality. At 45 yards it's not the most important factor. Get the AO version; Hawke have a propensity to glue the objective ring so it takes Conan with a strap wrench to undo it. I have just got a varmint and whilst the reticle isn't h
  10. If it's performing like that I wouldn't send it to anyone to fettle.
  11. Damage; why would it be damaged? It's only lead.
  12. Recently had just about every gun in your wishlist. I had two R-10's over the last 18 months and regretted selling them both. Last four months I have had two MK4IS's and was underwhelmed with both but were very accurate in single shot mode. Put the magazine in and I got rubbish groups, didn't like the trigger. If people think Daystate offers good engineering then they have never tried rifles of real quality. In January I got a spanking new HW100T with a beautiful stock. This gun was on a level above the Daystate and very accurate. How can I say this, well it was dead,, just no fun for me p
  13. Some good points seprim but you can't compare a Swaro riflescope with a Hawke riflescope regardless of the models, they are completely different beasts. Binoculars however, with comparable ED glass bridge the gap to what I believe are negligible returns for the outlay. As you rightly say, try them out in real world conditions but don't get hung up on the badge.
  14. I never tire of responding to these threads in the hope someone gets something out of it. I have had every derivative of the Hawke ED range; Prosallks, Sapphires and Frontiers. I have also very recently had my Swarovisions and Zeiss Dialyts. The Hawkes will do everything the Alphas will and that includes low-light stalking. Those who argue that the difference is noticeable in low light haven't compared the sets next to each other in exactly the same conditions. Don't run away with the idea that the more expensive bin will outperform the more reasonable costing bins on the market all the time,
  15. Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter knife. Took camping once so in excellent condition throughout. A few hairline scratches on the polished steel and that's about it. Comes with sheath and box. £55.00 delivered. Specs here http://www.coldsteel-uk.com/store/Pe...n-Hunters.html
  16. The one moderator that seems to work wonders at out club is a Hogan Decimeater. There's a smorgasboard of rifles every Sunday on the firing line and very few appear as quiet as this one.
  17. Usually up to 200 but I take it to 190 most of the time. Is your bottle full? (assuming you are using a bottle) if it's only got 130 in it that's all it will take the rifle up to.
  18. You had to read his "epic" justification for squatting to understand the guardian reference moley.
  19. He doesn't need one; he's the "guardian" after all, not the owner.
  20. There was a thread on AGF but either they pulled it or he did. He provided an insight on the thread.
  21. For some it's far worse than the brothers grim. Goes by the name of Miles Johannesburg but you might know him by another name.
