  1. I do both target & hunting. For me, the Panorama 4-12x40 EV MAP6A is the best all-round scope. I like the wide view and the fine reticle, it aids very precise aiming. The current world HFT champion uses a Hawke Nite-Eye digi which is similar but has a 50mm objective; they aren't crap, just budget scopes. There is a lot of hype over the Whitetail; never understood it myself having got rid of the only one I ever had quickly. With a £300 budget you are likely to pick up some good glass but that depends on you going to a decent outlet and trying them out. Reticle for me is more important than
  2. What sort of shooting are you going to be doing. Target, Hunting, both?
  3. Criticism surely should be directed at the admission that the op took a 30 yard shot at a rabbit that in fact was a hare at 40 yards, and you think VM is in the wrong?
  4. In your original post you say spotted a hare at 40 yards and took it out with a lung shot do you mean you thought it was a rabbit at 30 but as it was a Hare at 40 yards your shot fell into the lung region by luck?
  5. The MK4 (my second one) is just a spare for HFT and a rifle I can also use on vermin. It doesn't compare with the Ripley on a consistency level but it is a very accurate rifle and a lot lighter to cart around. This one is the MK4IS Target in a sporter stock which I only got last week. Ripper is just not ideal in the field (bright nickel and blue/silver laminate but does the job well if I'm laid up in cover.
  6. Here's the result of today's foray. They just keep coming and coming; all shot from the same spot as the 8 I shot last week. This rifle works, I had to use my Ripley last week while I was waiting to get this one.
  7. I'll be out tomorrow after these things, the woodland owners have been onto me to get the numbers down. I took eight out a fortnight ago without moving from the same spot. If I had a .17 I could have trebled the bag at least. I can honestly say that If i do that again every day for a week It would hardly make a difference; there's just too many about.
  8. interesting this. A shooting syndicate asked me to "squirrel bash" for them so Wednesday I sat up near a feeder where lots of greys had been seen. I shot eight without moving from that same spot yet not one of them seemed interested in the grain or whatever is in the feeder. Now, with it being first thing in the morning I thought this stuff would be high on the list for breakfast yet not one of them seemed interested in it. I think there must have been a lot of natural stuff on the ground that attracted them as I'm sure it wasn't the pheasant feed. I know this, limiting my shooting to 40 yards
  9. Both my MK1V rattled in the stock despite the rifles having a huge fixing bolt. I just put a strip of velcro between the stock and the air cylinder as it was just at the front the stock was hitting the tube.
  10. Something strange about this story. The op is saying a ginger bloke has more than one friend?
  11. This post should be a sticky on every shooting forum in the country. Bravo this man.
  12. Surprised that anyone with FAC and capable of taking bunnies out at 300 yards is asking for the capabilities of a sub 12 air rfile.

    Kurds

I understand that when the Iraqi elections take place next year the ruling (majority by some margin) party will be the Kurds. This will be a big turn-around and as the elections will be run by the UN then it'll be pretty much a foregone conclusion.
  14. No, the 100's or 101's I have had were very good guns. Brilliant guns are another level.
  15. Shame on all those who saw race relations more important than the welfare of children. I am astounded that this occurred and people in trusted positions turned away whilst the kids suffered; some terribly.
  16. I sort of understand what longers is saying having owned so many PCP's including two of the latest HW100's and three R-10's. The solidness of the HW gives a reassurance that the clunky R-10 doesn't. However, all I give a rats about is what happens downstream; i.e, what's that pellet doing between 8 & 45 yards. The two R-10's that I sold were so accurate and flawless that selling them like I did was pointless. I kept chasing the ultimate rifle and after 22 others (two years) I find the best rifle I ever shot is now a keeper (not an R-10). But my 3rd R10 outs-hoots this from a bench day
  17. To answer your question it's because the first derivatives were a bag of shit. QC even worse but you hope that the manufacturer listens to the feedback and does something about it. We all know they had a big issue getting it right and they may still not have done yet. I can only go on what I have experienced and the three I have had have been perfect. For that sort of money I don't expect anything but ok engineering so I don't set my expectations that high. All manufacturers have quality issues even the high cost offerings but if it can be put right then we might accept things can go wrong. Pe
  18. The KT is a pointable little gun for sure but you can't compare that against the R-10 as it's oal is somewhat different. The full length sporter not quite so pointable but a much better shot count. Yes, lot's of history surrounding the R-10's but if you go looking for tales of woe you will find them somewhere. If it was only negative reports that influenced our buying decisions we wouldn't have airguns in our cupboards.
  19. The Huma regs Darrin does are better than most regulators according to the output figures getting reported. If you have trouble with your r-10 and it's new then give it back to BSA. If pre-owned get a reg from Darrin and fit it yourself. He will tell you to leave the rifle as it is if it's performing well. 100's are superb without doubt and have the best magazine system I have ever used.
  20. I am now on my 3rd R-10 MK2. Foolishly I sold the other two chasing the ultimate rifle but it was costing me thousands. If I could find an adjustable stock for this one I would shoot it in the nationals (HFT) it really is that accurate. The most accurate air rifle I have ever owned. Yes, some have their problems; call me lucky in the fact I have never had an issue with any of them. Warranty gives you two years and then you can send it to the fettlers if it lets you down. Until that happens I'll leave it as it is.
  21. Fixed is not good if you are hunting but every scope I ever had with adjustable AO or side focus changed the poi with every move of the focus wheel. Fixed focus can often be changed to a more preferable distance but Hawke scopes are a bstard to re-parallax as they use a strong glue on the lens ring.
  22. To be honest the HFT boys might suggest fixed as we can't adjust the scope once we are on the course. If you can get a decent scope that allows you to change the parallax by adjusting the internal objective lens then that's the way to go but it limits all other types of shooting. At an event recently I was 13 shots in without a miss until I approached a standing shot and hit the adjustable objective ring against the pallet, the next 17 shots were plate only. I have now toyed with a side focus scope so that removes that risk and being side focus it covers all bases. Of the three Panoramas I hav
  23. Nothing to lose and I imagine you won't do it any harm. Twist the thing off. It looks so close to the tube I don't think you will find an adjustable objective there somehow.
