  1. Yes it does. I have a week off work, shot a few squirrels and magpies today in the blazing sun. Just on my 3rd can of Carlsberg Export and just preparing the Ripley in camo to do it all again tomorrow. You did ask
  2. One of the best looking HW100's I ever saw. If you wrap the back half it'll be the best I ever saw
  3. I tried a few Rapid's and well put together they are but I never thought a lot about the triggers. I understand they can be brought up to a reasonable level with some work. I have had four R-10's and have never had a single issue with any of them (all MKII). I know my third one was the most accurate rifle I ever shot and that includes just about every PCP bar an ISP. Quality is what it is; mediocre but perfectly acceptable when the rifle is as accurate as it is that's what counts. I know that whilst they shot like they did I wouldn't send it anywhere for fettling. The rapid will hold its price
  4. i would be interested in the grouping the firing squad achieve, centre to centre like?
  5. The figure of 8 is the weak spot on the 400/410. I was at a HFT comp when I only gently trod on my partners gun case and when he took his next few shots he donutted the next few targets. I had a look and the barrel was now twisted in the figure of 8. Undo the two grub screws and let the barrel find its own centre then do them up again. That tight gun-slip can't be helping, eliminate that from the equation first. If you were closer I have a case you could have gratis.
  6. Depends what you want to do there but its a big place. I go birding there in the winter but mostly stargazing as the skies are some of the darkest in the uk. I just have to close my eyes and I'm there, magical place. If you are into birding then the Crook of Baldoon is to the South of the forest and provides some stunning scenery. If you are roughing it then your in your element.
  7. I saw it as a retrograde step on Saturday when I used a HW98 to go around our HFT with the springer boys. Although I shot boingers well for 30 odd years I knew the PCP would make life easier and my shooting would improve. Can't say I was thrilled at all at the thought of it and then something happened. I wiped the floor with them all and posted a 52. This was a UKAHFT course, one where many of the PCP shooters don't score that. I have to admit I was impressed with it and (not being big-headed) impressed with my score having not touched a springer for thirteen years. I know I will never match m
  8. From my own experience, after a lifetime of shooting spring rifles, I can at least, appreciate the nicety and efficient accuracy of recoiless shooting with a PCP. But honestly, without wishing to offend anyone, to say spring rifles are a novelty is really wide of the truth. Rod you really should invest some time with your HW97 mate, you have a way better rifle than you seem to think and you are denying yourself a genuine pleasure! True, you don't need to own a spring rifle to enjoy getting into accurate shooting with a PCP like an HW100. BUT...You won't learn anything of any skill in
  9. I had a roadhawk fitted on my Cliosport a few years ago. Renault dealer did a service on it (£230) and when I viewed the footage it had been up on a ramp for 15 minutes and the oil wasn't changed. I took the footage in to them on the Saturday morning to show them and all the manager could say was "how dare you secretly film my mechanics" Renault UK bent over backwards to sort it when I threatened to publish the footage. Renault dealer didn't give a toss.
  10. As VM says, MKII on the block.
  11. Luckily I have the one that ticks all my boxes. Ripper.
  12. I just don't get the pricing structure (putting the looks to one side). Daystates engineering is at best mediocre. What is it that puts these at the higher end of the market. Put it into perspective; a Ripley in a Gary Cane stock costs less than this.
  13. Went up the perm for a few hours this-morning. Squirrels just keep coming. Bonus woodies and magpie without moving from the same spot again. New gun, regulated scorpion that does it's job well.
  14. Apologies for not staying on the topic of springers but as its taken a detour I might as well chimme in with my latest BSA affair. I took on a 2013 Scorpion yesterday and tested it today. It didn't matter what pellets I fed it it put every shot within mm's of each other at 35 yards (centre to centre) and I found myself laughing at what was happening. I shouldn't show surprise as the last seven BSA's I have had all do exactly the same as each other. I have yet to have one fail on me or even just be inaccurate; maybe I'm lucky. I paid five times more than this for a match rifle yet this little b
  15. BSA getting some bad press here from what I think is one of the most patriotic forums on the net. Although the OP is after a springer the choice that BSA provide all types of shooter should be applauded. The Ultra through to the new Goldstar provides a range that suits all pockets and disciplines. I watched a guy with an Ultra match the top shooters at Furnace Mill's opening day recently with a 59. Good shooter yes but he knew his gun (unfettled) and used it better than anyone with a trick HW on that day. I have had three R-10's, the last one being the most accurate rifle I ever shot or owned
  16. Two months ago I would have said something completely different to what I am saying now. I contracted viral meningitis back then which has left me clinically depressed and on Citalopram tablets to try and bring me up. I have a severe case of meningitis and I am not the man I am or the one everyone knows. I used to be sharp, an executive on 45K a year and now I struggle to remember what I did half hour ago. I'm scared to go back to work where I have 28 people reporting to me and I don't remember how to log on to my computer. Someone mentioned dogs? I went beating today and at lunch I was s
  17. Like our learned Villaman I had very little confidence in the Daystate fold. I have had two MKIV IS which were not particularly well built rifles. Accurate yes but moderate engineering at a premium price. just a week ago I came across a year old MK4IS Target for a ridiculously low price so I took a punt. It's a kin accurate gun, of the likes I have rarely seen. However, when I think of the cost of these new I just don't get it. A Ripley action can be bought for a grand new. Chuck in a Gary Cane stock and you are in the realms of a Daystate Forester (LE) which on an engineering level can't be c
  18. As I re-read the thread I see most posts, in fact nearly all iterating exactly what you have said?
  19. It really is get what you pay for with scopes. My previous Lightstream was some way ahead optically than my Panorama's and the clicks were true with no backlash at all. The reticle was just something I couldn't get used to. The Falcon I had could not compare optically with the Panorama yet it was twice the price but so heavy. All four of my Vipers were good glass but reticles too busy. I don't think your standard 3-9x50 Hawke is a yardstick to measure a brand by, I agree it's not the best for gathering light but it's at the lowest end of anyone's budget so that should give you a clue as to val
