It never took the pheasant in flight it took it on the ground. Am not just blaming buzzards for the decline in ground nesting birds, carrion crows and foxes like you say and they have a big part in the decline as well.
The buzzard did manage to take the cock pheasant and killed it, saw it with my own eyes. Was definitely a buzzard and not a goshawk.
Couple of years ago when just driving around the release pens I counted 44 buzzards and 4 sparrowhawks, and they wonder why there is no ground nesting birds. Have seen a buzzard a few times taken a cock pheasant during the shooting season, bloody thing never got took the bill for a driven bird.
There is 2 small teeth like marks at back of head, rest of body seems okay. I thought hedgehog but they more likely to crush the head. He has traps set up around ranging from cage to fenns to snares.
Have had tawny owls kill poults before in pens.
My mate who is a keeper is having poults killed, there is 2 small holes at back of head an they have buried a few as well. They have killed a few outside the pen and a couple inside. Thought it may have been a mink or a ferret.
Has the usually stuff set up around the pen but still no takers.
Any suggestions?
Its a load of tosh, more money making scheme, a bit of paper to say you can shoot deer, whats the country coming too, its paper work for his and paper work for that. No wonder folk get p***ed off.
I know its a bit late, but was wondering if anybody knew of anyone that had a any pheasnt poults available, looking for about 300. Was offered some at £4.00 a poult. Looking for strong birds. Our syndicate is based north of Aberdeen. Any help would be a help.
Thanks
Use a bit of polestyrine or even a blade off grass. I have found that if 1 call doesn't work then another does. Check out the warrener site as to how to squeak with your hand. Does work well if you get it right.
I used a wigeon call for foxes or have also got a andre gorgescue call which works well. Try polystyrene on the window or use your hand to call them in.
