  1. we dont have polecats wild here so not up to speed on the law's following them. Get urself a cage trap, anything protected can be released again.
  2. I supose 1 thing is for sure your vermin must walk through the bodygrip which will nail him 100%,but there is a posibality that he could walk over the plate on the fenn. I use both for trapping mink and i find them both very effective, 1 might suite better to a certain location over the other 1. Then I find from others im my area they only use 1 type and that's only a matter of what they are confident using. I never had a bodygrip fall over, a stick through the eye in the spring will keep it standing.
  3. what i do is set the larson baited with a rabbit under thier nest . it will work put the cage in at night and you should have luck.
  4. i couldnt say for exact i think it is a percentage of an over all caught in a certain county, dont quote me on it tho.
  5. there is 1 of them dogs around hunting with no sound until he goes to ground, he's a cert in a hole but a pain in a big cover when no body can pin point him,
  6. that's a tough 1 to figure out what it is???
  7. they havent we have 4 terriers of the same age and that's it? i suppose we'll have to let them off and hope for the best.
  8. so are you saying to let them off and see what happen's?
  9. iv got a pair of leggy russels that are off hunting parents of which both are barking on fox hunting cover, now the dogs i have are comming up on 9 months with nothing done bar some ratting and some mink, my intentions are to try and get them working for the comming season, i just wanted to know if you got any tips to get them barking on the sent? or will they just have it in them? and if so maybe some tip to increas thier ability to help them preform as good barking hunter's. ps hunting with terriers in ireland is not illegal. cheer's pat..
  10. depending where you are, in ireland there is a bounty been paid by the NARGC to clubs for the grey squirrel, and as far as mink minister jimmy deenihan has/is talking with whoever to try and get €3 a mink. this could be and will prob be a long way off but it would be worth freezing any of them caught now just incase it's a long way off, even at €3 i dont think anyone will make a fortune, it wouldn't cover the cost of fuel, how long would before you'd have the price of a new trap, ah well i suppose it will be better than nothing, happy trapping.
  11. well today i got a good deal on a new .204 remi 700. so thanks for all the feed back cheers pat...
  12. have you ever tried this with any other game pheasant or duck?
  13. not ruger iv seen and heard loads about them. this luger is after comming up for sale seckond hand as good as new for €300. would just like to know more about them from people that have shot them.
  14. just wondering if anyone here uses this rifle LUGER .223 or had 1 and changed it what did you make of it??? cheers pat..
  15. That would be my choice... 58gr Vmax though......awesome fox round... The .243 is out anyway as i would have to apply for a deer licence for that caliber (ireland). thanks for all the info everyone now time to go shopping .223 it's going to be. cheers pat..
  16. i wont be reloading, i wont be doing any massive long shooting average 250 yards, from what i see it seem's that the 223 has a better varity of ammo than the .220 and seems cheaper to run also. for better stability on a bullet what would be the best twist.. firing a 50grn bullet out to 250 yards ???
  17. In the next week i am going to be buying a rifle and am undecided on which cal to get. From my asking around iv noticed that the 223 is a more common gun, there is a good selection of different bullets for them averaging about €25 a box 20. iv heard little about the 220 swift, and would like to know are the bullets dear? is there a varity of bullets for them? would there be much of a bullet drop set at inch high at a 100 yards firing at a fox at 250/300 yards? any info welcomed cheers pat..
  18. on the 1st of november we met 8 got no shot have met an odd 1 here and there sense, south west ireland.
  19. i have found this time of year to be very difficult to catch them also but i am catching them away slowly about 2/3 a week, what i have done is set 2 larsons about 30 yards apart. The 2 birds chattering to 1 another draws attention and between the 2 trap's he's sure to fall victon to 1 of the traps.

does anyone use for 1 shooting or fishing what is a good make??
  21. i will just add another little tip, mink usually hunt against the flow of the water so to increase your chances of catching the b*****ds face the cage enterance down stream. mink are very curious as said above and can be caught without bait but to increase your chances it helps to have something in it. i have caught mink with the following baited traps: rabbit potions, tined dog & cat food, a stale piece of a kebab, sardines, feathers plucked off pheasant into the cage. even use the magpies that i catch in the larson and that work's also. patients it the name of the game if your set up is
