Two of my favourites from that era where Jerry Quarry and George Chuvalo...not the best of their time but two deep game and tough individuals...a couple of things to keep in mind about Quarry's dementia is that he fought from a very early age and hardly ever wore a head guard when sparring...he also had a bad coke problem which burnt his septum out...not saying these would be the cause...but neither would of helped...Chuvalo on the other hand went in with all the top names of the day including Ali twice (before and after his ban) and was never KO'd... is a pretty healthy and together 80yr old...and has proved to be just as game and tough in life out of the ring...Holmes I was never a fan...maybe hard to get the Ali fight out of my head...I enjoyed seeing Tyson smash him to be honest...before the fight Tyson says Ali whispered "get him!" in his ear...so not a lot of love lost between him and Holmes...all well and good crying crocodile tears when your cashing the check

Anyone else not rate Joshua ?
Joshua has his faults but nobody has been able to fully exploit them yet so hes still unbeaten.Wlad showed the Blueprint how to beat him, keep him busy every round, using movement and the full ring and keep things at range while throwing punches in bunches and he will gas out ready for the stoppage. Allow Joshua to control the pace and distance in the fight and he will ko you with one of his big shots.Fury has all the attributes necessary to beat him like ive mentioned before, but by the time Fury is ready to face him I believe Joshua will have already been beat by somebody else.A Wilder v Joshua match up would be some fight mind,Wilder with his wild swinging punches and Joshua with his close range bombs, that fight has the makings of a classic shootout imo .
You have the right of it there for sure Mick...I would of maybe only given Pulev a punchers chance of beating Joshua...but with the wise old head of his trainer Ullie Wegner in his corner...whos taken a lot of fighter to world/European titles...I thought they would of came with a game-plan to exploit some of Joshuas flaws...and made a fight of it...but...Takam's tough...but not tough enough to keep me in on a Saturday night Some harsh sounding opinions from some on the Joe Joyce lad...when you think friday night was his pro debut...and that it took Dillian Whyte 10 rounds to get the job done with Lewison the end of last year!...what was that Whytes 20th or something pro fight?!...maybe give Joyce another 10 before we totally write him off eh?

Teddy atlas telling it how it is
Teddy getting it spot on as usual!...we was saying before the fight Golovkin would need a stoppage in Vegas as he wouldn't be getting a fair decision...so no surprise really...big money in a re-match and all that...Saunders put in a good shift after such a long lay off...but Monroe should really think about calling it a day after that...we was having a good laugh this end...local lad Sam Sexton goes to Scotland to fight Gary Cornish for the British Heavyweight title in a few weeks...looks like the winner can look forward to having to face Daniel Duboius...f**k sake that will give him something to think about on the long journey north!...getting too old for sitting up all night...with only coffee to keep me going these days

I think Saunders faces the exact same problem that TF faced , bit of money and status gone straight too ones head, one begins too think ones due more love adoration respect fear admiration etc however one tends too forget these things are earned in word and deed , by the second minute hour day week month the year , the minute you start to demand them your out on your arse , people are fickle and most are far from stupid,
Leaving Tibbs was Saunders biggest mistake , Tibbs wouldn't of put up with the entourage if hangers on and Muppets , lack of discipline etc , Said fees only still got his belt due too circumstances or he not fighting , looked shocking in last fight , weight problems etc fights falling through , all takes a toll, he been out a good while now
I will give him the fact he a natural fighter and looks too have shaped up well whilst with Ingles gym, very tough test tonite, Munroe a proper professional , sharp focused looking very strong ,I reckon he will be far too much for Saunders I reckon Saunders will gas around five or six take lot of damage and end up ko'd or towel yucked in
Well one wouldn't want ones towel yucked in on one would one haha...you sounding like prince Charles there mate...may that explains why you referred to Saunders as 'pure scum' the other day over a bit of gym banter...now I respect Jimmy and Mark Tibbs as some of the best British trainers but as far as discipline goes well they couldn't stop Kevin Mitchell gambling partying&pissing the best years of his career away when he trained with them could they...Saunders main problem in the past has been fitness...under Dom Ingle he certainly looks like he's got that sorted out!...Saunders is by far the best Middle weight this country has...but a bit like I was saying in that Tyson Fury thread recently...I get the impression a lot of the British public would prefer to see snide sneery little spoilt Eubank jnr wearing that belt...maybe the difference between me and you is I work on building sites day in and day out with loads of young lads like Saunders...so the shit that falls out his mouth don't faze me...after all hes a fighter not a vicar

Yes Rusty... he not fought anyone yet...but looks good so far...don't get me wrong here...im not anti black boxers just peoples attitudes to decent white ones...Sam Sexton's fighting Gary Cornish for the British title up your way soon...what you think of that one

AJ wants to fight in Nigeria soon for his people lol f**k him
Race, colour and all that don't normally come into it with sportsmen with me...and I normally support the 'home' fighter...but the one thing that takes the shine of Joshua for me as a British sportsman is that he was happy to wrap himself in the union jack at the Olympics...happy to use British tax payer funded olympic facilities even as a pro...and happy to line his bank with money off British punters...but what does he do as a thank you to the country that gave him everything...he goes out and gets a massive Africa tattoo with Nigeria out lined...comes across just a little un grateful but typical......something my old man said a while back when Fury was crowned Champ made me laugh...the old boy is
so forgive him he's not that pc...he said as long as he could remember all we wanted was a white British born heavyweight Champion of the world (hell we'd of even taken Bugner at a push)...but as soon as we get one...the media turns on him and everyone hates him...typical of todays generation who have been hoodwinked and brainwash by the media...and when you look not that long back to certain Black British middleweighs...people talk them up like greats...despite the fact they dodged the best of their era...but look at the generation of British white middle weights that came before them...that got in with the likes of Hagler...well them men have pretty much been written out of history...something I noticed on the web before the Josh Taylor-v-Ohara Davis fight...someone described Taylor as looking like he would be hanging around Mcdonalds car park in a Corsa smelling of lynx Africa...seriously when did being an average white working class kid become an insult in this country??...but give em a black lad in aviator shades and cracking on like a millionaire...and they love it! Lol.........rant over

Whatever happened to hughie fighting parker
Its Happening not this Saturday but the one after...23rd of September Manchester arena...Parker landed on sunday training at David Hayes gym...both fighters looking fit and ready...no hype or bullshit...hope its a good fight
-
As the other fella said that's an old article...people still seem to have a thing for Fury even tho hes retired and shut up...I don't think he will be back now...and if he did hes spent too long out...mores the pity in my opinion as he made the heavyweight scene that bit more interesting...Tyson's cousin Huey fights Parker for the WBO title in Manchester in a couple of weeks...not that youd notice it as Hennessy have so far done a piss poor promotion

Was up that way in may...first time in 12yrs...we always used to holiday round Fort William when the kids where younger...climbed Nevis a couple of times wth the kids as teenagers... Glen Nevis is great for walking and as others have said through Nevis gorge to the steal falls is really something to see...we went early morning and had the meadow to ourselves and had the dog off the lead...if you get the chance take the Corran ferry and head north to Malaig via Mull...we used to stay around Ardnamurchan a lot...theres a little bar at the back of the Strontian hotel called the bothy bar...dog friendly, good people and ales (Cairngorm brewery do some good ales)...have a good'un we will be heading back next may

Looks like Canelo going for an early stoppage...but he can pack on as much weight as he likes...we all know Golovkin can take a punch...that weight will effect Canelo's handspeed and stamina as the fight goes on in my opinion...Golovkin stops him late rounds...and he will need a stoppage in Vegas...America's lacking stars in boxing right now...and as we seen they will try and hang on to this one by fair means or foul...looking forward to this gonna be the first time I pulled an all nighter for a fight for years!

I've seen all of the old SKA bands many times over the years.Saw The Specials last year who Wernt as good as they were a few years back when they still had Neville and John in the band.Im going to see The Selector and The Beat in 2 weeks.Im hoping that should be good as both bands have been fantastic when I've seen them in the past. Was offered a free ticket to see Madness a couple of weeks back but declined as the last 2 times I've seen them they were crap.Should have took the ticket as they had 3 warm up bands that I really rate and could have just left early.
saw the Specials at Brixton when they first reformed...think it was original line up?...worst band I ever seen live!...Terry hall like a reluctant old tramp...at £40 a pop he can f**k off back to fun boy3...seen the beat (but not with the white bloke singing) and Bad manners they was good...liked the first two Madness albums...but couldn't stand the house of fun our house type stuff they did...see them play after the racing at Newmarket...they was a lot better than I thought theyd be...also see Suggs do his one man show thing that was good...there was a yank band used to gig over here in the 90s called the might mighty bosstones...they was heavily influenced by Madness...see them a few times...one of the best bands I seen live

Been a regular visitor to London since the 80's...Gigs, football, boxing, drinking...we all know England has the best Pubs in the world...and London has some of the best old boozers in England...the thing you always notice is those in the pubs are (other than a few tourists) mainly white and English...stick to the pubs...you cant go wrong

Let's be honest tho hughie would of beat Parker easy after That peformance lol
did you see his last outing at the Copperbox?
I was there...but missed Hughies exhibition thing...we was still in the pride of spittlefields sinking a few...did see him shake hands with Parker tho...the night ended in a brawl in the stands...got tickets for Manchester too...think the main reason its slow to sell is because the Fury's have gained a reputation for pulling out of fights...think sales will pick up nearer the time all being well with both fighters...would love to see Hughie win...hes got nothing to lose and everything to gain... but think Parker will have to much for him...Hughie still young enough to come again if that's the case...Parkers not looked great in his last couple of fights...but fair play to him for coming over here with the belt trying to make those big fights...he could of done a wvlad and sat on the title at home
-
Lol hughie fury will not fight again mark my words
See him fight the other week in Stratford mate lol

Maybe I'm cynical...but...the ref jumping in when he did Saturday night came across more about not having the shine taken off Joshua's hype by Takam taking him the distance and spoiling his 100% KO record...than it did about protecting Takam who was going the full 12rds
