Does heat affect muzzel velocity on a pcp?
zini replied to masmiffy's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
No problems Mas buddy Chronographs work best according to my instruction book that came with my F1 chrono on cloudy days mate. On cloudy days you don’t need to use the diffusers that come with it. On bright cloudless days then a white diffuser needs to be used or your readings will be slightly inaccurate mate. Using a chrono inside under florescent lights is also very bad mate and will cause your readings to go wild. Just so you don’t worry buddy sometimes when I am chronoing my rifle I will get 8 or 9 readings at around between 565 to 575 fps and then the odd one at -

Does heat affect muzzel velocity on a pcp?

Hi Mas buddy, I have just read and noted that you are calibrating your rifle using Air Arms Field pellets but saying that they are 16.4 grain. Unless you have different AA Fields pellets that are heavier than the normal AA Fields your data is wrong that you are producing pal. AA Fields and FX pellets are actually 15.89 grains and so lighter than you worked out your data on. This is the data you need to use to get a really accurate calibraition. This said your rifle shooting at 570 fps is actually 11.47 FP (11.5) which is pretty dam perfect so i would be really happy with that m -

pellets for long range shooting
zini replied to farmerkev09's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Kev i think that you have high mounts mate as medium mounts only go up to 45mm objective lenses mate. Your scope has a 50mm objective lense. Here is a rifle profile that i have done for you buddy to give you a starting block to work from. This is set up from a 24 metre zero which works best for your pellet weight mate on x 9 mag on the scope. Si -
I also zero at 25 metres with all my rifles. The reason you do it is that by zeroing with a .22 at 25 metres your pellet stays within a 1 inch kill zone area from 6.5 m to 28.5m if your rifle is around 11.5 FP and you are using a pellet between 14.3 and 16 grains. It means if you wobble a bit when taking the shot or estimate the range wrongly you will still hit the target unless you really wobble and miss completely. Si

Look at this mate, A picture paints a 1000 words. I hope this helps, its something i put together along time ago. Si Rifle and scope easy guide.doc

Lovely looking rifle that Pest I can see that more and more people are starting to turn to the springer side of the force . It wont be long and i bet Davy, Festa and the other regs buy a little springer for a rainy day Great shooting pal. Si

Hi Tepper mate, In layman’s terms it’s putting the cross hairs above the intended target and lobbing the pellet in order to enable the pellet to impact on a range further than your normal zero point. If you were to zero at 30 yards, you could hit rabbits all day at 30 yards but it the rabbit was at 35 yards in .22 calibre and you aimed on the cross hair you would still hit the rabbit but most probably in the lower jaw or neck depending on which way the rabbit was facing. We only go for a kill zone of a rabbit which is 2.5cm in diameter or 1 inch and this is between the eye of the b

pellets for long range shooting

What rifle you got Kev and what scope you use pal? Does it have a normal mil dot system or something like a MAP or SR reticule in it? Also what pellets do you use now Kev. You still using the .22 calibre Bisley Magnums? Do you have high mounts or medium mounts mate? Im just trying to build a standard rifle profile for you mate to give you a starting block to use when going out and calibrating your own rifles hold over. Si -
Well done Jack buddy Great photos, Great write up And great shooting buddy. They look like very clean head shots pal. Si
-
Nice write up Tony mate That pigeon looked well struck in the head mate Dont you just love them FX 16 grainers, they dont half make a mess of what they hit. 3 mil dot hold over from a .22 calibre rifle zeroed at 27.5 metres is a fair old shot buddy You must of been well happy with that shot mate. Obviously the new scope is panning out good for you pal. Si
-
Well done Shannon I see your teaching the old fella how to shoot again Were the bunnies sat over their holes Shannon? The reason i ask as they sometimes manage to jump down their hole if shot in the head due to nerves and muscle memory. Your dad has probably told you but try waiting until they are 1 to 2 metres from their hole before shooting them Shannon. You will get more in the game bag then girl. Best of luck with the new rifle. Si

No problems mate. Any time you need anything just give me a shout. Si -
Yeah Davy, I think he definatley made himself look a bit silly mate . He was even swearing in the clip trying to take me off and do some sort of a Yorkshire accent and impression. The thing is though Davy Im not from Yorkshire, Im from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire and I dont swear in my clips either He was talking about gravity and started talking about neutons over metres which is a unit expressing how much force is required to stretch or compress something over a given distance. Totally the wrong word for gravity, but Hay Ho as they say. Si
