my old female harris used to come out the chamber full of venom every year she was pulled, she was pure evil, posing posturing striking out with talons , proper cow, once manned and channeled quickly into hunting hard she soon realised that she needs myself and the dog and it was back too buisness, your pals telling you duff info mate, likely they will turn the bird around and sell it on later in season or summat, she has sat and lived the dream eating as much as she wants for months on end , she just needs the edge taking off her, Crowhawkers offer is a very good one if you dont feel confiden

never quite get the 'lost me job so had to get rid of me birds/dogs scenario' , personaly if I where to loose my job I would simply have more time for the birds , dogs etc and being that I like to be busy I would need them more so, its not as if either costs much too keep, if I was not working I would expect them to feed themselves and maybe contribute a little towards my table as well. When you take on either a bird or dog its usually for say around the twenty year mark with birds , lot less with dogs, but you sort of know that it will be a long commitment and in that you cannot guarentee

heard a lot say the redytail is the best starter bird, makes sense , more a classical approach is required, good weight management, mannning and hadling required and little room for unpunished error, Harris maybe a little to easy or so it may seem, depends largely oon who is training who, intelligence is a good thing if we learn to respect it and channel it correctly, When it comes to hares enter carefully weight the odds in the birds favour as much as possible get in a finish what the bird will struggle to handle at first, its abotu confidence, not always about weight, confidence leads t

assumming you have done your reasearch and found yourself a mentor and spent a year or so in the field learning the ropes etc then the best bird is the one that you have a passion to fly hunt with and own, its also wise to piuck the sort to complemement the sort of permisson that you have , falconry 90% preperation 10% hunting, all vry good when it comes together. Worth reading Underrstanding the Birds of Prey by Nick Fox, Falconry and Hawking by Philip Glasier, Art and Practise Ema Ford also worth reading after the other two books, finding a mentor local to you is also advisable matem th

Its coming very fast to the time where most of us will be lookign to reclaim our birds for remanning, how do you go about this. Ive free lofted for the first time thiis moult, he been in an open fronted mews as he works with dogs and I like to keep the assocation, he fully moulted now and am about to reclaim him, I reduced his rations yesterday , which did not please him at all lol , he looked well antsy all day yesterday, a little more settled today so I chanced it and went and sat in with him for an hour, he wont jump to the glove just yet, but I reckon another day or so and he will do it, I

The dog only really needs to please his owner and he seems to hit the right notes with the man, many seen him run and he has not hidden from anyone so many made theit own choice to use him to line their bitches, the real question is where the bitches equal to the dog imho, had the owners put as much time and effort into their stock as the dogs owner puts into his, fair play to the fella he works very hard with the dog, happy to show him running. I think its a little snide to crab him, he is the fellas pride and joy and any lad who has worked hard with a dog should know the time and effort put

you should find a mentor mate, make things much less stressful for yourself and the bird, I like mine teathered whilst manning but will free loft once he is back in the swing of things, I will free loft my new harris male once he is trained and working , never moult a bird again on block or bow, free lofting all the way from now on for me

National Service... Could Become Compulsory... Ww3 On The Horizon??
arcticgun replied to paulus's topic in General Talk
I think its a good idea, but maybe the national service should be something that benefits the nation, send them out to clean the streets and work for the elderly doing decorating shopping cooking gardens etc, also providing training and certificates, maybe the chance to mix with their elders would do the younger generation the world of good, could all start with a six week army style boot camp, get a bit of general fitness , manners , respect and pride knocked into em, then two years of community based work placements with a little wage , far better than allowing a whole generation to sit abou -
the picture says a thousand words , happy kids , happy dogs , reciepe for sucess , all they very best for the season ahead mate
