  1. right lets put a misconseption to bed before this thread progresses ... drinking is the LAST requirement for a dog with heatstroke the main requirement is to cool the body before the organs in the body start shuting down .... when the dog has cooled sufficiantly then and only then should you offer a drink and never ever force the dog to drink ..... yes electrolytes are good for a dog BUT only after the body has cooled sufficiantly to handle it ...........

  2. here is a post i put up on a different forum just take out the bits you need ...........

heatstroke can be easily overlooked here are a few tips to spot it and the run down of how it affects the dog .....

    Panting

    High body temperature

    Dehydration

Red (congested) membranes in the mouth and eyes

    Rapid, irregular heart rate

    Diarrhoea

    Weakness, looking dazed

    Coma

    Death

if the dog gets heat stroke here is the quickest and easyest step by step method of curing the dog .....

Move your dog to a cool, shady spot. Get her out of the direct heat.

Take the dog's temperature (if possible). If it's above 104° F, you want to lower that in 10 to 15 minutes and stop when the dog's temperature reaches 104°. Spray or immerse the dog in cool water. Use cool, not ice cold water! as this will cause shock.

Place cool, water-soaked towels on the neck, feet, and belly.

Let the dog drink if it wants.

    Get to the nearest vets.

hope this helps .... some dogs are just to dull to know when to stop so it up to you to have some common sense and clip the dog back on the lead when you think it is starting to overheat ....... one thing to never do is chuck a overheated dog into a river or lake my mate sent his dog in to do a couple of retrieves to cool him down after doing a little bit of training on a hot day and the dog died of liver and kidney failioure which was brought on by shock ... this dog was looking good to be a field trial champion springer and he was gutted that such a simple act turned into a disaster..........

  3. f**k off chas i am innocense itself you know that :11: .... i know what you mean trev it works for us over here aswell if i didnt farm the dogs out i would spend all day shoveling shit :11: instead i can come on here and talk it :11: :11: :11:

  4. due to a number of reasons i keep my dogs all over the place .... my digging dogs are kenneled in my digging partners yard .... my greyhounds are kenneled at my old mans .... my ferreting dogs and ferrets are with me etc etc etc .... i used to keep all my dogs in my kennels but times change and at the moment this is the norm for me ..... but i was wondering if anybody else does this ......

  5. with the pups 3 weeks old today i have just been reflecting on how different the temperament is on an average litter of pups .... i have 2 chocolate bitches that are absolutely nuts ... if you wake them they growl and bark ... if you pick them up they growl and bark ...if you feed them they growl and bark ... they are constantly fighting with each other and the other pups ... i have 2 black bitches one of which is the biggest of the litter and the most laid back she is always the second one to investigate something new behind the one of the mad chocolate ones the other black bitch has a dont realy care attitude .... the first pup born was the black dog he was the smallest but has now caught up with the letter but he is realy timid .... he whines if he picked up whines if he is fed whines if he is whining he just constantly whines ... when you go in the kennel and call them the other pups will come running but he goes to a corner and tries to run ..... he is being handeled a lot to try and bring him around but he is destined for a pet home or the rainbow bridge as he is going to be no use as a worker ... it will be interesting to see if the extra handeling makes any difference ? in my experience it goes some way to helping the dog adjust but they are always nervy once they are born nervy ...........

  6. darcy you are bound to stick up for potter as he was blowing smoke up your arse not so long ago on the other thread about books or some shit .... the reason you boys dont like out and out hard dogs is cos you f*****g got any .... now what dogs you have may suite your style of hunting and i applaud that (after all who am i to critisise) but i can guarantee you one thing if you fellas fetched them stay back and bay dogs down here you will drop hole after hole after hole and get nowhere ...you need dogs like the punisher and dealer to get the job done with game that has been dug and has no respect for a dog the bayers will get f****d over every time .... now i am not slagging potter off or trying to make him look stupid he is doing a good job of that all by himself .............
