  1. I often go for a mooch with a mate who lives near Tamworth and there are loads of egrets round there.
  2. I cant stand it, the average second division mens team would beat them. And whats with having women commentating on the Saturday results program? Football is a mans game, for Christ sakes let us enjoy it in peace.
  3. When I find some food or another missing the words "you thieving b*****d" have my 2 diving for cover.
  4. Do rabbits with RHD die underground? It's the only explanation I have for round my way, whenever there is myxi the dogs have a couple of weeks scooping the ones affected up but this time I haven't seen a single one.
  5. I know its difficult to tell but are you sure the ferret isnt trying to play? If its a this years kit I'd be thinking it was, although I'd still try to stop it because if a fight starts there will only be one winner.
  6. So far all the rest of mine are fine so I don't think it's any infection, but 3 in a fortnight would make me worry.
  7. Yes mate, I'm beginning to wonder if I made a mistake with the pen, I built it on the base of my old koi pond and filled it with topsoil thinking the could dig a couple of holes if they wanted. When I put them in it was a small lawn and now it looks like the front line of the Somme... lol Its like a swiss cheese and I'm having to dig up the latrine area every month or so and fill back in with a bag of compost. The ferts love it and are noticably fitter than they were but it's a ballache in other ways
  8. With my eyes I'd need to put a hi vis jacket on her to see her more than 10 yards away
  9. Nothing to do with the breeding, he was as fit as a fiddle and from different stock to the one with back problems. My new pen is basically an aviary, I built it 6 foot high for easy cleaning and they climb up it often. The only thing I can think of is he fell and landed awkwardly, though I've never seen one fall before, and the floor is soil so it's not really hard. Maybe he landed on the edge of a nest box or something, I've no idea. Whatever it was killed him quickly, he was right as rain saturday morning and dead by sunday afternoon. I've checked the 3 jills a couple of times today and apar
  10. I can't believe the run of bad luck I've had with ferrets in the last 18 months or so. I had to have my 2 oldest ones pts as they went off their back legs, the new hob I got escaped, the next hob kit I was gifted turned out to have a deformity of his back, pts again, and this afternoon I went up to feed them and found the new hob kit lying in the middle of the pen with dried blood on his muzzle, breathing his last . I haven't got a clue whats happened he was fine yesterday, and the 3 jills are ok, my best guess is poisoned in some way or a fall. The only different food they've had is a mall
  11. Nobody can take pictures well with that arse crack beaming back at them, the sun was bouncing off it like a searchlight and I had no sunglasses.
  12. Your worrying yourself for no reason mate, they're fierce little sods at the best of times. A couple of months ago I introduced a new jill with mine and there were fireworks for over a week as she battled with my old jill. There was another week or so when the old girl slept on her own and ran a mile each time they met and since then they are curled up together with the others.
  13. You may find he scruffs them for a while just to make sure they know he's the gaffer. I'd just leave them to it as long as theres no blood, they'll settle down.
  14. I've been putting 1.5mm on the last few I've made. The nets draw closed way easier than 3mm though I dont know how long it will last. I daresay I'll find out why no one else uses it in the very near future...
  15. If you don't have a dog you'll need a buddy. Ferreting hedgerows is murder on your own, I guarantee most of the rabbits you net will be on the opposite side of the hedge to you..lol If your ferrets are young and haven't done much don't expect a lot the first few outings, it takes a while for them to learn the job and they often miss a few, especially if the warrens are big. Don't forget to turn the locator collars on before you enter the ferrets, I've done that loads of times over the years. Don't be too eager to dig when you get a mark, give it a couple of minutes because often the rabbit
  16. Horses for courses imo. I've got a half cross here, he's a gentle sort, lacks a gear for lamping and will only ever be any good for mooching and ferreting small stuff but at this stage in my life he suits me well. He's quick to learn, easy to train, has a nose like a spaniel and I can take him anywhere and not have a worry. My other dog has bull and beddy in him and is the complete opposite, fearless, will try whatever I point him at, touchy around other dogs, and much harder to keep in line. If I was in my 20's or 30's again the old dog would suit me down to the ground but at my age I'll tak
  17. My old jill has lost a load of fur this year, I put it down to losing my hob and not being brought out of season. It seems to be growing back well now the weathers beginning to change though.
  18. you mean matt will end up with an arse like a baboon lol It'll match his face then....
  19. I wish you lot on here would stop encouraging him, you don't have to share a van after he's been on his curries. Even the feckin dogs get queasy.
  20. If there were none at all I'd be thinking that they are not living there but coming into the place just for food, meaning they have a way in and out. Ferrets will use the same routes so be careful and make sure they are collared up
  21. I know it's not everyone but some gun owners should take a look at themselves too. A few years ago I had a couple of permissions wiped clean of rabbits by guys with air rifles that spent all summer sitting 50 yards from the warrens of an evening and shooting everything that came out. Lamping with a dog is nowhere near as efficient ( especially if they are anything like mine..lol) and you're never going to completely wipe them out, ferreting the same, but rifles are deadly.
  22. I reckon this last series was the best yet. I love the way they lull you for a half hour with soft music and talks and then it suddenly explodes and there is a fridge full of body parts delivered to somebody
  23. Got to agree on Narcos, it's really good. They are filming season 4 at the minute in Mexico and one of the guys that scout out locations to film was shot dead a few weeks ago, must be a truly scary place to live.
  24. There's always a few left somewhere, no matter what happens. It may take a couple of years but they will be back. rabbits are tough little critters.
  25. I'm sure I read a while ago that labs are the cause of more dog on dog attacks than any other breed, including staffies.
