  1. Completely disagree, this is a forum not a communist party, therefore all opinions are welcome as are all the responses to the chap, but not the personal insults or insulting PM's that he has recieved. There are two results here, one is that some pillocks have sent some seriously offensive material, which could be illegal, to a 13 year old (IMO given what can be read or seen on this site under 16's should not be allowed on here but I do not know how that can be achieved). The other is that this chap is not 13, perhaps as some have said he is an anti, well now some pillocks have given this anti
  2. As the HL is google searchable I dont think that'll work now! Anyway, it has allready been shown not to be a "just" reason to claim it was an accident when it comes to shooting Barnacles, and there are very few small Canada race birds in the UK. Mark, on an estuary, you have NO hope. Just learn their calls and avoid shooting at them.
  3. Chaps, as you will have seen the pigeon plucker is only 13 and as he sees it there is no reason to hunt foxes. Fine. You are lucky, I'm a bit like that, never had to shoot a fox and the farmers who own the ground where I shoot have more problems with rabbits that foxes, so they have asked me to leave them. Pigeon Plucker, foxes, like squirrels cache food when food is plentiful for when times are rough. That means that when they come across several new born lambs or an easily accesible pheasant pen or during wild bird nesting season (waders/gamebirds/hen harriers i.e. ground nesters), they
  4. Thanks chaps, I am afraid I did not get your message until this morning so I did sniff a few drams on Saturday, thats another bottle of Talisker processed! I like the idea of the wooden DJ illinois or the AJ call, someone has said they are the same call just branded differently?
  5. Short answer. No. They are "rightly" protected. The powhillon farm case website is a little bias, allthough quite accurate. It omits that fact that borders fowlers practically eliminated the Svalbard-Solway population of Barnacle geese. That is why they got such protection and support from the WWT. I have posted elsewhere that a PVA of that population shows that even limited hunting pressures will lead to a long-term decline in that population of Barnacle geese (See Scottish Parliament Goose managemnet advisoryt group reports). However, the Islay and Ireland population tend to be from Gree
  6. I may have turned 30 but I feel 40, it must be all those long walks in fickle weather chasing ducks following evenings with ubiquitous quantities of hot speyside amber. I must wean myself off the malts.
  7. I am not fussed about distance. My lab that I had pretty steady for my wildfowling and rough shooting, through being taken to the beating line this year, has developed a serious run-in-to-shot problem. Little bugger is off hunting for that thing without looking for it in the air. And at the Pheasant shoot, by the end of the season, as soon as the guns got gong he was off to the front of the woods and through the gun line to pick up. Had to put him on the lead and eventually just went on my own to wait until I had time to get back to his training. I guess I want the launcher to free up
  8. Going to buy a dummy launcher. Anyone got any recommendations? Turner Richards, Hallmark? T
  9. Hello So have some birthday cash (30 today whoohoo), looking at upgrading to a pinkfoot specific call. My mate uses the DJ illinois one and it sounds great, and there is also the Archie Jordon one, and then others swear by some of the snow geese calls. Any thoughts? T
  10. Not just the sport, think of those great meals you will get/had for £40! well done!
  11. Did you use email or phone, both etc etc BASC have had loads of trouble with wildfowling clubs when they refer members or enquiries to club secretarys because they have not been replying to would be new wildfowlers. It was raised in the minutes of the last few wildfowling liason meetings between BASC and affiliated clubs. My advice would be, assuming you are a member, speal to the BASC wildfowling team and see if they can come up with some other contacts or ideas? I know a few of the BASC team hunt on the Dee but I dont know if it is on club grounds. Speak to Peter Marshall, he is not
  12. My wife laughed her head off when we arrived at the BassPro at Toronto, she said I looked like a kid being introduced to Chocolate for the first time! You can buy a 14' duck boat...off the shelf...literally!!!!
  13. Yeah theres heaps of them mate but they dissapear before flight time how has the Eden been this year i havent had one trip there this year. see piece in Sporting Gun, literally hundereds and hundereds of wigeon there in early November, plenty of goldeneye as well. Saw no other species in outer estuary. Greys all stayed in reserve.
  14. Cat amongst the pigeons????? I think we should all pay for wildfowling, no matter how small the fee, and the money should go straight to the local authority in a very transparent manner to pay for collecting data and providing a ranger (happy face to visitors), and paying for leases. Clubs are only one way that it could be done, I would love to hear of NE/SNH, ministers and others thinking outside of the box to change the way things are done. New thread anyone?
  15. Nonsense. Join a wildfowling club as near to you as possible first. It is usually cheap, certainly compared to buying a gun and they will have young gun discounts. You may have trouble getting a licence if you cannot demonstrate some well thought out need of use, especially at your age. The second point. Do you currently help out on any local syndicate or commercial shoots, if not you should be as it is the best way to develop a circle of likeminder friends who shoot. The last point. Find two other clubs. One a clay pigeon shooting venue for the same reason as point two above and then
  16. Sid Say hi to CHT next time you are at Kingscliff, I used to work there. I am from near kingscliff originally and allthough I post from scottie land I live in Leeds! Dont ask. Moving from God's own county to God's own country this year! So maybe see you at Kingscliff at the end of this summer. ATB and happy posting PS Dont worry about snakes, you will only find them if you go looking. The only beasts you need to care about out in the hills are about 5mm or 10mm long and bites hard! Ticks and kegs respectively. Oh that and big black cats!
  17. THANKS, THIS IS NOW SORTED Trying to make contact with members of north Humber clubs. Especially Alkborough. Have also made direct contact attempt via secretary but thought I would spin this as well! If you are, or you know, a member at a north Humber club and in particular the Alborough club can you please PM me with contact details. Best wishes Tom THANKS, THIS IS NOW SORTED
  18. Looks to be some good prices in second hand at Swillingtons. New guns all gone up but also some of the larger companys have big sales on! Try them as delivery can be cheap T
  19. Welcome Sid An Aberdonian man like myself. Welcome to the HL. Where do you go to shoot clays? T
  20. Birchall Free wildfowling is all about access to crown foreshore. In England the foreshore itself can be leased by the crown to other parties and therefore those areas that are not leased out to anyone and therefore are still owned by the crown can be shot. If you can find permitted access to those areas then you are fine. My knowledge of the situation in England is limited and based on what I think I know! My advice to you is this. If you are a member of BASC or the CA then speak to them. If not then become a member and speak to them. In my opinion BASC, for all the complaints lai
  21. For a SGC you do not need to say what type, brand etc etc State what shooting it is you will be doing (Clay, game, vermin, waterfowl etc etc) and if you have a club membership or written permission for shooting over any ground then include that as well. It would do no harm to say that you intend to consult a local gunsmith about exactly which gun to buy. What is important is that you have the right cabinet in place before you get the visit/interview T
  22. I use the wind spinners and they do look like an attraction to distant duck but cant say that I have used o ne effectively yet. I like the idea of the floating ones for placing out in a raft of ducks at high tide, but again the wind spinner more effective there due to lack of power requirement. If in US, best to buy what is expensive over here. The air lucky is $20 in US while £40 here Diving duck decoys over there can cost the same as value Mallard here while expensive here. Make sure they have what you want in stock or order before you go and have them delivered to your hotel.
  23. very cold continental weather = more waterfowl numbers and species in Britain. If thats not an incentive for all of us to switch our cars to used chip oil and turn of the standby LED's in the house I dont know what is!
  24. A drake Pintail is my wildfowling mecca! The first one is for the taxidermist! The second for the pot! We never get so many of them in the NE where I do most of my hunting, I often hear them after dark, as I did on the montrose trip, but none ever seen. ATB T
  25. !!!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!! BASC has found a way to make a complaint against Barnardos that will make them listen. Since this event Barnardos director has snubbed John Swifts personal calls and will not engage with them, claiming that they had BASC approval because they phoned them up the day before they released the film and told BASC that they were releasing it!!! Anyway, what BASC specifically need is "genuine" evidence that the advert has led to cancelled subscriptions. They need to see evidence of 50 changes of heart about donating as a consequence of the film. I know a few of you
