  1. Thanks for your reply, that's very interesting, it's the sort of answer I was looking for. Tell me when you say only two where running dogs, did you mean the others were no good. At all? All the lurcher of old the wareners uses to use all look very collie like in the old pics.

  2. Hi, cheers for the offer [bANNED TEXT] but i fancy a bit more collie in the mix. You are all right about getting a collie lurcher of the right breeding but its not as simple as that.... the mrs needs to be convinced and the only way i can blag it is if she could see the pups and then i keep one. I am happy with every thing my bitch does, she retreives live to hand she is responsive and obedient, she just lacks the stamina to go all night and she has very week skin, i figure that putting a lot of collie in the mix would give me a lamping machine and then i would have the speed in mum should i need it.

Has any one got any pics of different types of border collies that have been used and the pups they produced?

  3. my concirn using a fist cross is i dont want to risk getting somthing out that is to racey and whos feet arent up to it, what about a reverse 3/4 bread?

i have read on here quite a few times of folk using a collie over a racey lurcher and it prducing good results? there must be some more collie folk out there with some experiance,

    cheers

  4. I have a bitch that i bought as a collie wippet saluki grey, in reality i have a dog that stands as about 23 inches and looks something like a saluki wippet, she is very racey and fast (to fast). I was wandering if any one could give me any advice as to the sort of pups i would get if i put a collie to her, ie would the pups be fast enough on rabbits? also what sort of collies effect the breeding in what way? i want something in the end that has strong feet and can run on rough ground with as much between the the ears as poss.

    cheers

If you need a home wane? ;-)

  6. Don't have to be a hard run to get a knocked toe, your dog could have done it a number of ways, though most likely it's hit a stone or the like. It's always hard to diagnose without seeing it (not that i'm a vet!) but you can take the swelling down a bit by running it gently under a tap (hose) for about 5mins, lifting the foot you may see some movement in the toe, which may suggest it's only bruised and the treatment for either.... Complete rest till it's right. Best of luck mate ;)

Thanks for the advice [bANNED TEXT], will do that now, I think that may be the end of my season, i suppose at least she caught the last one she ran.

  7. I was just wandering if some one could tell me how to re wire my lamp to make it more reliable? it seems to go on and off at the most annoying times, i think it is the plug between the lamp and the batery, the one you would put into the lighter plug in your car.

    thanks

  8. my little bitch ripped her dew claw off on our last lamping expo about 2 weeks ago and after a 50 quid vet bill and 2 weeks no running i took her out for a quick shine and she ripped the other one off!!

is that normal that she should damage them so frequently? and if so is it worth having them removed?

    cheers

  9. This is to be my first season lamping with my little whippet/collie x saluki/grey, she is about 17 months old and has apparently done a bit with her previous owner, she has caught me a fair few day time rabbits and retrived them to hand. When i take her out at night although she is catching she dosent really seem to understand that she is suposed to look down the beam and will only chase once the rabbit is moving and as a result is missing quite a few that i feel she should have caught.

Is this usual for an inexperianced dog or should i return to basics and stard dummy retriving lessons in the dark with the lamp?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

  10. Hi

    cheers for all your help,

you have said start off slow and build it up, but build it up to what and how long do you expect it to take?

i have taken on a bitch about 4 months ago who was very under weight and have not been doing much with her as i have been trying to get some wieght onto her. she is only 14 months old.

    thanks again

  11. blisters on feet would suggest you have over done it woudnt ya think

i would have thought, but i only did a mile or so and the other dogs had no probs. What sort of distances and speeds would you do to start with and what would you work up to?

    thanks

  12. Hi,

i Was wandering what sort of fitnes training people do when getting there dogs ready for the season.

I have done some work on the roads on a push bike and i ended up with the dog getting blisters on her feet, is that normal or was i doing something wrong?

how long would it normally take to get a dog fit and ready for a hard night out?

    thanks for your help
