Terry those look like Arcade potatoes, are they?
-
Cold potato with lashings of butter , cold gravy, meat pie between two pieces of bread (cold). Cheese and onion crisps, (crunched up small) ham and mustard, corned beef with branston fruity sauce, but my favourite has to be either apple and sugar or banana. All on wholemeal bread.

A blood apple ?
A good guess there and not far off.
This dessert/cider variety takes its name from a ********* who was shot whilst stealing apples from the Megginch estate in Scotland. The apples were thrown on a rubbish heap by his wife and one of the seedlings that emerged was subsequently named after his predicument and his job. The fruits are blood red, crisp and juicy. When very ripe, the flesh becomes stained pink.

There is an apple tree growing by the side of the road near me where the road has gone through what used to be a farm garden. This apple is odd as it is red on the inside as well as the outside, it is a desert apple and really sweet. There is a story behind the name of the apple which is applicable to THL, any guesses?

Choosing what onions to store is a big part of getting it right. Any onion without a thin neck should be used straight away and not stored. It also depends on the variety of the onion to be stored, some are better than others. Red onions are very difficult to store, why I do not have a clue.
I was always told to store in nets in a cool airy place once dried, but for the amount I grew they would never last till Xmas as I would have run out by then.

I was looking for a variety of potato to grow next year when I came across this site, there seem to be a lot of new gardeners on here this year so I thought it may be helpful to some one.

There is an automatic wiget on there where you type in where you live and it gives the optimum dates for planting in your area.

Some times it can be stoney ground, but most to the time it's to fertile for the carrots in the ground they are planted in, and that makes them grow on the surface and grow extra roots rather than push down the get nuitrients they need. They still taste the same no matter what they look like, they just peel better if they are straight.
Don't peel them just a light scrub to get the dirt off and in the steamer.

Makes no odds, you are growing for tasty, organically grown veg, don't get hung up on what they are supposed to look like as long as they are healthy then your doing a good job.

[bANNED TEXT] went wrong
Nothing wrong with those carrots, no matter what shape they are they will taste 100% better than shop bought ones. Not one bit of the dreaded carrot fly showing. Well done!!

Again no guarantee's it depends on time of year and weather patterns. All things being equal it should work, the only problem is things are rarely equal. What lessons have you learned in the garden this year...
Do regular plantings of fast growing crops to give a consistent harvest rather than feast and famine

I've planted loads of raddish....my whole family loves them. We had a week of misformed raddish followed by a month of non....now Iv got a million misformed ones again lol
Planted to many all together at one time. Next year I will aim for raddish all season!
All you can do is sow and hope the weather gods are kind to you.

Modern medicine can be a wonderful thing. However ultimately it will be the death of the human race as a standalone viable species. I just looked at the infant mortality rate for the year I was born and compared them to today's rates.
Health of infants and small children. ... The infant mortality rate per 1000 live births was 148 in 1955; 59 in 1995; and is projected to be 29 in 2025. The under-5 mortality rates per 1000 live births for the same years are 210, 78 and 37 respectively. To me this smacks of drug companies playing with peoples emotions for profit. No parent wants to see their child die and most as in this case will do anything to keep them alive. The fact is though that not every child that is born will make it to maturity, and to be truthful that is the way it should be.
I would like to ask Francie a question. Do you think that modern medicine is playing god and allowing people to live longer than they naturally should. This is not a trick question as I am genuinely interested in how you see modern medicine opposing the natural order?

Over the years I have learnt that there is no such thing as hard and fast rules, what works one year will not always work the next. The only thing I can say that is a certainty, is that every year is uncertain and there are no hard and fast rules.

How big are your beetroot? I think ours were planted too close together maybe, they're pretty small at the moment
Average about 31/2inch dia ..some a bit bigger some a bit smaller ..the yellow ones have grown even quicker ..
Thanks, I'll measure ours, maybe I was just expecting them to be bigger, next year I'd like to try some different types
Those yellow beet are quick growers and they do not bleed like the red beets. The quickest beets I have found for growing are the white beetroot.
Taste nice as well.
