I used to use looped bailer twine, then I slpiced some rope into a slip but found both of these cut into my wrist once Roo had seen the quarry. I now use a section cut from a cheap ratchet strap but intead of cutting it then melting the end with a lighter, I heat an old sharp knife on the fire and cut it with this. It cuts and seals at the same time and you don't end up with a stiff blob at the end of your slip. Rough bit of sewing to form a loop for your wrist in one end and hey presto a decent slip lead!

Is there a differance in taste between the high and low ground Roe? as I guess they eat differant foods? It's one of my favorite meats but I've only ever tasted it from the Somerset levels. Cheers Luke.

It was a vet that told me to use tins of cat food! he said if you can afford it, go for the dry ferret food if not, tins of cat food will be fine??? she also gets whatevers left of rabbits, crows, pigeons etc With Rabbits I take the loin, and back legs, the dogs get the front legs and the Ferret gets the skin, head and lights. with Pigeons I strip off the breast and the rest goes into the Ferret. Crows, jackdaws etc are fed whole to the ferret. On a Sunday she also gets a bowl of watered down milk, and a raw egg to play with. Joe14 - That stuff works out at £39 a kilo!!! Cheers L

When is the Portman Hunt show.....????
bullmastiff replied to elisderyn's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Was good to see you both again and congratulations for Chase's win Well another good Hunt show considering I'd only had a few hours sleep and the missus had none. I picked up a nice Pheasant painting for a tenner within ten minute's of arriving. The photo doesn't really do it justice. (it's the first painting I've ever bought!) Then on to pick up a beer where I saw Blaine, Hyperion's stunning 11 month old collie x Pharaoh Hound... so popped over to have a chat and be mauled by this rascal of a pup! who also tried doing Roo up the wrong'un, cheeky bugger!. Was then introduced -

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions and I'm sorry for not replying sooner. Christ, I haven't heard that one for a while!!! an old keeper told me to do that when I was young and got my first ferret! and I did it with every kit i got after that. I forgotten I used to do that! lol Right, I hold the feed bowl (wet cat food) in my lap and she jumps up, takes a piece of food and is off to the corner of the hutch to eat it. I stroke her when on my lap, and when in the corner eating. I've tried before to leave her to eat in peace, then come back later but after she's eaten all she

bullmastiff replied to elisderyn's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Right then, Phoned them up for the Postcode (thanks Hyperion ), but they didn't have it! so gave me directions instead, As busterdog said turn off the bypass at the Tesco's roundabout and follow the road to the end and some big posh gates (Bryanston school) Turn left in front of these gates then First right, (called 'New road') the Show will be sign posted from there. They will also be doing refreshments thenselves to try and raise some more cash, so no packed lunch required! Hope this helps, Cheers Luke. -

Well the missus is working Saturday and Sunday night so I'll have the day to myself, so will definately be there! I'll be taking my 3yr old daughter with me as she loves all the dogs and I love the time I get with her! Look out for me with the two dogs and Daughter! (you'll probably spot Tia with SS collar before you recognise me!) Anyone know if theirs going to be food/drink etc? and does anyone have the Postcode to find our way lol! Hope to see a few of you there! Cheers Luke -
My neighbor has been diagnosed with cancer so has asked me to keep the Ferret that I'd been looking after for him. I've been trying to handle it daily when feeding but it bites like buggery and runs off and hides with the food, it's got to the point I'm even considering wearing a glove with it! lol I've been hoping it would get used to me and being handled and she will now hang limp in my hand for a few seconds before flipping out and attempting to bite. She has caught me several times but she only nips rather than full bites so is not panicing? it's like she's just giving me a friendly war

That was Brilliant! very funny indeed! cheers for sharing!

bullmastiff replied to DEERMAN's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs

How are you finding it so far Kay? have you tried it on anything moving yet? Thank you Archie! Any idea if this camera would be good at action shots? If I'm going to buy a DSLR style camera then I'd be mainly using it for action shots (dogs and wildlife) and landscape Photos Thank you Luke.

Not that I even pretend to be a 'dog man' but even I know, just because you think he's good, doesn't make him a good stud dog? Another couple of years and he might start Jacking or even worse showing health problems??? 2 yrs is too young to stud a dog. get a few more years under his belt at his game then offer him up, People might take you a bit more seriously!!! Mine is a 3 yr old Bull X something and has, so far done successfully, bar one, every quarry avaiable in England He still hasn't had the opertunaty to retrieve a shot Hare! (offers welcome! lol), but I wouldn't offer him up for s
