16Wk old pup is it normal ????
bullmastiff replied to Sully's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
but she hasn't watched it! , all dogs are differant, it's not supposed to be a bible, more of a very rough guide. As stated already LOTS of play at that age, and a long line can come in handy. It's not for dragging the dog back to you as some people seem to do, just to add some gentle pressure to the collar as you call her, once she starts coming back, it goes slack and you drop to your knees, calling like an excited girl! LOL! play time again! Good luck with her, sounds like she (and you) are doing fine. -
As above really, I was always told when buying a pup not to get one younger than 7 weeks, although they might of stopped feeding from the Dam, they still need their Dam and litter mates to learn important lessons.

Thank you, although it obviously wasn't me taking them! I think my mate had 5 Pats (one was a pup) with him and one Jaqd. Theirs was also various other dogs including a Parsons Russell, several more Jaqd and a couple of French Scenting hounds (forgotten their breed?) and on the second day a guy turned up with a small pack of beagles. When the dogs caught a fresh scent or sight, then all and sundry was hot on the heels of the boar!!! From the Yap of a Terrier to the Deep howl/bark of the Large Hounds, it was an amazing sound then with the Hunting horns added it certainly got the bl

I'd forgotten I'd started this Topic back in 2006! A lot changes in three years!!! Turns out I don't just talk the talk after all! (although I think I'm still a p*ssy!!!) LOL After many PM's with a member on here, I got to go on a Boar hunt! (Using Patterdales and a Jaqd Terrier, not Bullcrosses!) An absolutely amazing experience and one I would love to do again.

bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Yep she's constantly panting but it is bloody hot at the moment. She's still getting a browny green discharge at the moment, but according to the vets thats ok for first few days? What's going to be the next step? I read your guide on worming Skycat, so at 3 weeks start worming, I use Drontal plus on my two so wil use that (in smaller doses) how do you give it to the pups? When is their first injection? Is there anything else I'll need to do? Cheers Luke. -

Right then Puppy rails, what size of wood and height do I run round the inside of the box to help protest them? Twice now I've found a puppy stuck between Tia and the box, so defineatly needed I think! Quick pick of (we think) the father! I still can't believe my little girl is a mum! she's always been such a pup herself (even now at 7!) Quick Vid of my two playing together, she's always getting chewed by Roo but never even try's to bite him back, just thumps into him with her mouth open! (excuse the little bare bum half way through I can't edit it out). Puppy Nº 7 w -
Sounds like you just need to go back to basic training again? as if you've got a new puppy. Start from the beginning again just this time you can go through the training a bit quicker. Dogs constantly need small training sessions to keep them on top form, you don't just train them then that's it. Cheers Luke

Thank you everyone, I'm still a nervous wreck now! LOL Haven't slept yet and every time a pup cries I'm into the kitchen in a flash! but I can't see that lasting long! I'm knackered! With two big dogs all ready I've only got room for one more (why we were hoping it was just one pup) I'll be bringing it on to work with the Air rifle/Shotgun and run with the other two. I haven't got the faintest idea what they'll look like when their older? but yes it must of been Roo... just don't know when! Well, whilst I was at the vets the placenta was dropped and duly eaten. so we got settled for the n -

Thank you MLB Pup Nº3 born at 1.35 it's a another Bitch!!! But Pup Nº4 was born at 2.15 but it's intestines were hanging out, Got to the Vets and she fought until her last breath, even the vet was upset as he said she's a proper little fighter. Apparently he wouldn't usually try and put them back in but as she was still fighting half hour later he had a go but the main blood vessel for the intestines had split so he couldn't do anything and had to put her down. A bit gutted but Tia's got 3 very healthy and very hungry little pups. Mum and pups are doing great, we've change -

It only took about 5 mins with a saw, hammer and nails, but thank you anyway! I couldn't find a hasp to round of the corners so used the chequered handle of a socket wrench! LOL worked a treat! I'll keep everyone updated! Thanks Luke. -
Best wishes for baby and mother, hope there doing ok. Must be a proud moment!

You will need to scrap as much of the meaty tissue off as possible, otherwise it'll start getting smelly. We just used to scrap them clean then wrap around a cylindrical washing up bottle with elastic bands then stuff with sticks/stones to add weight. It hardens off around the bottle, making a simple dummy. Same with Pheasant Wings, just elastic bands to hold them on.

Your getting old now mate! Can they fit a Stana stair lift to a high seat? LOL Cheers Luke.

Thank you Mally, Nicola was a gem! gave the girls Coke and Chocolate, and my wife a nice hot cup of Tea whilst they were waiting for me to get back! and also she was the one that said shes definately pregnant the vets wrong go for a scan!!! so can't thank her enough! Half the price of our vet!!! thats crazy! it's the only reason I hadn't got it done was the cost! Cupid! Are you suggesting God's into Beastiality?! Referance the bedding, that was the next question I was going to ask, Tia keeps dragging it in to a pile then laying on it, she's started nesting and getting restless! (s -

Is that becuase it's the first thing everyone will say when they see it? That's the main reason I'm so worried Skycat, between her age and the size of her compared to the pup/pups I can almost guaruntee trouble! Although she's very small for her breed, it was down to a medical prob rather than genetics, so her pups will probably be standard size Bullmastiffs X to a large Bullcross (Roo's 70lb and 25"ats) I don't think she'll be the same after this! Tia was one of only two pups, and they were both big, Her brother was the biggest and she needed a C-section in the end as he got stuck. -

Found out whats wrong with Tia today. :(
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Stunning, thank you, I should be able to knock one of those up in minutes My wife works at an old peoples home so can get loads of old blankets for the bedding. When the pup/pups are born, do I just break the bag and clear the airway striaght away or leave Tia to try doing it? I hope it's only one pup! I don't fancy trying to get rid of a litter of Bullmastiff's X Bullcross. Most people that work dogs won't look twice at them and it would be hard to find responsible pet owners? Thank you for your help so far, I'll let you know how were getting on. All the best Luke. -

Mushroom, I know your a fair way away but once Tia's back to herself, then your than welcome to come down and see her work. Maybe arrange a date when Langoroux is up here as well so you can meet Flash too? could be a good criac and might even get to see Tia/Flash doing some proper work! lol Tyla and Hannah, as normal you've both put it better than I ever could. Thank you. All the best Luke. -
I'd been concerned with Tia that she seemed a lot quieter than normal and her nipples had started to swell so took her to the vets for a MOT. After a check over, I'm informed she's probably having a Phantom pregnancy? although theres a slight chance it might be an infection in the Cervix? she had a feel about and said she can feel something but thinks it's just a small amount of poo as it's too high up and far back to be a pup. checked her temp which was normal, so her bodies not trying to fight off an infection, so nothing to worry about, if she's still like it in two weeks bring her back in

bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thank you for the Comments guys. I've owned her since 8 weeks old, we got her as a guard dog after getting broken into. She had problems at about 5-6 months old (swallowed 5 socks!), so stayed very small and light. She used to follow my old Spaniel into the hedges and caught her first rabbit at about 16-18 month's old. I started taking her to work with me at about 3yrs old (I was a gamekeeper at the time), Tia would run next to the Gator and then potter about when feeding and walking round the pens checking the wire. That's when she caught her first, dealt with it and retrieved it bac -
