Well done guys, looks like you had a cracking night out!

when did she have the pups mate? any pics? Should of told you, sorry mate, Vet told us it was a phantom pregnancy on wednesday the 5th, got told by a Nicola at EDRD she's defineatly pregnant on the Sunday, got a scan on the monday morning and told it was one large pup!!! which was also quickly dismissed by a few members on here and lo and behold Thursday night Friday morning 7 pups arrived!!!. One was PTS and one was stillborn 12 hours after the rest., So their 9 days old now, and doing really well. Although I was concerned she's a bit to old for being a mum, Tia's taken to it real

The Southwest. Why?

I heard this as well I got told by the vet that Roo had a slight heart murmer but nothing to worry about, when I spoke to someone about it that knows running dogs he said quite a few have got a slight murmer as the heart is so large and so fit that sometimes the valves don't work properly when resting. Don't know if it's true or not but made me feel better!!! Cheers Luke.

Thankyou Taffybull I hope so! I'm definately keeping one back, just don't know which one yet! Another is going to do the same sort of work with someone else and one of them is going up to Family in London to hunt Jamaicans lol She's been broken into by them three times already this year. The police take statements etc. then it's the last she heres about it. I was going to be looking at getting a halfx or an Alaunt to replace Tia in the future, but she's done it for me. Cheers Luke.

How much would one of those set you back?

Found out whats wrong with Tia today. :(
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Not yet, I thought I'd give them a few weeks and see what they start looking like? Really I'm looking for a slim Bullmastiff (like Tia) so just have to wait and see? -
cracking looking dogs love the look of the smoother coated dog.

Thankyou Langouroux. No worries Viking, we think he's a 1/4 Staff X 3/4 Grey (he was a rescue, so not sure). Tia's unfortunately had 5 pups so she's stuck at home. It was an accidental mating between Tia and Roo, she's too old for a litter really but we hadn't seen them couple and were told it was a Phantom prenancy by the vet. So it was too late to get them aborted. Besides Tia's getting on a bit now so we will need another 'strong' dog soon. Cheers Luke.

Edited, realised you were asking for 3/4 bullX not 1/4 bullX Sorry. Luke

Went out with Roo again last night with the Farmer, tried filming some of it again but it turned out rubbish (worse than the last one!) We ended up getting two rats and six rabbits. He made hard work of the last two rabbits and it was more like watching a slowed down version of a Saluki and Hare LOL. He just can't turn quick enough for them. Their not his main quarry and he can put a few in the freezer so I'm not fussed. Saw bloody loads of Badger out last night, we counted 12 in one field! I don't half miss Tia when were out and about. We also saw a barn owl that was sat in the field

The Dogs In This Years Comp !!
bullmastiff replied to chartpolski's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Just wish I had a rabbiting dog to enter! Looks like it's going to be a great comp this year , a good craic and good sport thrown in too but without the hassle like last year. Hope you all have fun and all the dogs do their best for you. Luke. -
People have stated the answer already, repetition. Where they said to take the lead on and off so it's not associated with end of the fun. Same with the van. When it see's the van it knows it's home time and end of the fun. So as said, get her on the lead before hand and into the van, have a coffee and fag, back out for another 5 Min's mooching then back to the van again. try that a few times each session so the van isn't an end to the fun. As tomo said if you can turn it into a kennel for her then even better. I'm guessing it'll stop once she's working, as the van will mean hunting, the

Usually the lamps not left on all the time so he probably didn't have the foggiest what was going on! He usually is on a slip.. but as this place never sees Badger or Fox I could let him off. I couldn't hold the Camera, lamp and Dog at the same time, so just let him go. I'll try and get a better one tonight, I'm out with a Farmer so I'll try and get him to film for me. Cheers Luke.
-
Congratulations mate, Well done you and the dog!
-
Thank you Bird. I usually do turn the lamp off whilst walking about, then quick flick on and search for quarry, then off again. But as I was trying to video it, I left it on all the time. I've only got a 7ah battery so it wouldn't last long if left on all the time. All the best Luke.

at WHAT age can YOU tell if a lurcher is ANY GOOD or not?
bullmastiff replied to adamb20's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Maybe someone can verify this as true or not (I'm still fairly new to this!), With squatters try and get behind them if possible, when they decide to run, they leave in the direction their facing, so a dog trying to pick it out of the seat from the side will suddenly have to turn 90º to catch the rabbit. So it's already 10-15 yds behind it before it's even noticed it's not their anymore! It seems the more experience a dog gets, then the more you see them circle round behind the rabbit themselves, lining it up for a catch. We don't get many squatting rabbits round our way so not had much pr -
Thank you for the comments Guys and Girls, it a damn sight harder than I thought, trying to do it on your own! I needed more hands! Dog on a slip, Camera and a Lamp! you've got to drop one of them! Thank you for the constructive criticism Any chance you could do a video for me, to show me how it's done? it would be much appriecated coming from an expert like yourself Unfortunately the Camera doesn't work in the dark and rabbits aren't polite enough to wait around for you to turn the camera on and get yourself sorted out. Plus of course me being a newbie to this Lamping lark, I

Had to nip out and pick up some Puppy food so thought I'd stop at a permission on the way. Had the Wife and daughter in the car so only had 15mins! lol I was holding the Lamp underneath the Cam and was watching the beam not the cam so slightly out of focus. and I can't edit, so it's 4 mins long for about 10 secs of action. First Rabbit was a fair way off, so hiss Roo down the lamp, he trots down the beam then a squirt of speed and he gets it just behind the Stable. Second Rabbit came out of the Nettles but Roo was following his nose and didn't see it run off. (you can hear me trying

They look like cracking pups Can't believe how big they get at that age!!!
-
Their not Lurchers... Their crossbreeds LOL even cheaper as they work on the heinz 57 rule (crossbreds are generally healthier!)
-
No worries, and Thank you , it's saved her throat a few times lol, but as you said it won't be needed for a good while now. I don't think she'll be the same as she was before, so retirement might be on the books for the old girl? we'll see how she copes in a few month's. Catch you soon Luke.

Well done mate, he looks chuffed to bits!

Found out whats wrong with Tia today. :(
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Well, quick update, 6 days old and almost doubled in weight, so Tia's doing great! The Runt has now reached about the same weight Pup Nº2 was born at! 326g. so looks like he'll make it. Pup Nº2 is now at 737g!!! fat bugger! He's going to be a big boy, he's got quite a lot of muscle definition in his shoulders already and his neck is as wide as his considerable head The other three are also doing really well, and throwing the weight on now and they've all now got sticky out ears LOL! they look a bit like Gremilins! A few quick pics Little and Large The 'big boy'
