  1. Enjoyed the video mate. Cracking quality for such a small camera. Cheers
  2. If you are going to fly a falcon, you will need quite open countryside. Too much cover and the crows just dive in and hide. My own preference would be a female pere/saker. Males can be good at catching and dealing with them, but with being smaller, they can also get a bit of a rough time from them. Just my thoughts. David
  3. I just feed a good and varied diet of whatever the hawks catch, stored in a freezer, mixed with quail, pigeon and a few DOCs.
  4. You could kite train a redtail if you wanted to, but in reality you don't really need to as it will soar naturally especially if there is a nice breeze to give it lift. My old female would soar high above me just like the wild common buzzards we have here. If she lost a squirrel high up in a tree, she would quite often take to the air, soaring above waiting for me to move it I would say though that once high in the air, they can spot game a long way off and go for it, leaving you trying to track them down. I would not hunt them from the soar all the time, but mix it up with some flying off t
  5. Nice pics mate. Some of the best fun i had was flying my female red. She loved chasing those squirrels and after most of the rabbits died off thats all we had to hunt locally.

i've got a brittany. a handy sized dog, who will work all day. He marks rabbit burrows, points game, will flush ducks out of water. Also he is a soft dog so i don't worry about him hurting my birds especially if they get a bit shirty with him. Dave
  7. I'd love to fly a Coopers one day, but they're too expensive over here in the UK, so i'll just make do with my German gos Nice pics BTW. David
  8. what are you on about so what more can i learn from reading the same thing over and over. I am saying it is not as hard as you make out to be the only head thing is to get the weight right. So i should just keep reading the same thing over and over. If you pick up a book they dont go in to the weight of the birds if you dont wont to help just fcuk off and stop reading. Its not just about getting the weight right. There is a hell of a lot more to it than that such as manning, training, conditioning etc.etc. Read some decent books, not the usual drivel thats written these days IMO Da
  9. Hi, can i ask is there a battery with this or do you need your own? Also would it need to be a car battery or would a dry battery be of use? Cheers
  10. Thanks for all the replys. I think once funds become available i shall be looking to buy one of these. Certainly seem to be good fun.
  11. Does anyone actually use lure machines to keep their dogs fit? Are they any good and also are they easy to make? Cheers
  12. My German gos is a nightmare freelofted and thrashes around at the slightest disturbance. Therefore last summer I moulted him out on a bow perch. In my opinion, a bowperch is better than a raptor post as the bird can bath, or lie down on the ground anytime it wants to. Good luck with him. David
  13. Another good way is to use a HPR. My Brittany is quite good at pointing them for my Goshawk. I just let him work into the wind until he freezes on point. It would be just as good if not better using the gun. David
  14. Thanks for the advice. Will look into it. Cheers David
  15. Hi has anyone any experience of fourtrack diesel engines fitted into a landrover. Are they any better than a landrover engine and is there any benefits. Also is there any issues with them? There is a defender down the road for sale, so i thought i'd ask about them. Cheers David
  16. Some of the best fun i had was flying my female redtail at grey squirrels and theres no shortage of them. Good luck with the sale of the book. David
  17. I will take this. PM me your address and i will pick it up. Cheers David

Well done, its good when it all comes together. ATB David
  19. Before, i flew a female redtail at squirrells, so i didn't really need a dog, but now i fly a male goshawk, so i've got a brittany to find game, point it and then flush it, though it doesn't always work out that way!!!lol, sometimes he finds game and flushes it without getting a point.
  20. Hi Dafydd, i like the smaller european gosses and there are very few people breeding them in the UK. Most seem to prefer the larger finn's or cross finn's and now people are getting into the russian albidus birds. Cheers David
  21. Hi Dafydd23, was it dificult to get her brought in? Also was she a passage, eyeas or brancher? Cheers David
  22. Hi, i was just wondering if it was still possible to get wild taken goshawks brought in from the continent? Does anyone still import German or Czech birds? Cheers David

Some birds take longer than others to get into rabbits, Its hard to give any advice without seeing the bird. You said you have a friend with a Harris, what does he say about the bird.It may require the bird's weight being dropped temporarily or it may need to go up a bit, as i said its difficult without being there. Its just a pity its not late summer with loads of youngsters about. Then your bird could have picked her own prey.It may just be a confidence thing. ATB David

Hi Soapy, a bit more info is required. Has your bird flown and caught rabbits on its own? Is she a first year bird? Cheers David
