  12. A good post I have always lived in an area where deer and hares have been rife, and to this day I have seen no change in numbers. So my choice back then was saluki and deerhound blooded. I needed a dog with guts, speed, staying power and coat. I do have a lot of patience training any dog that I owned, and I haven't had many. To this day I still have the same type of lurcher that I owned back then. Since 2004, people by no choice of their own had to give up and sell up. Bad times for all espeacially families in the game who relied on a wage! Then there was others who change dogs
  13. And that's just putting it politely!
  14. Your right about that eel pit pete. LOL

  15. Foxy, no harm in coming on here with your concern. I had a look at him, it seems that he is more stiff than a limp. I did see that at times he just gets up and walks on all fours as normal, then when he's resting for a while then gets up again he seems stiff on that leg. Give him a couple of more days, then as Trotter58 has mentioned pop him into the vets for an assessment. He'll be fine.
  16. By the time you have bought the eggs in and had poor hatch rates which can happen when buying eggs on the net, coupled with the buying of rearing pellets and the cost of electric for the incubator and heat lamp, it may work out cheaper to buy some trios of 6wk old hardened of birds in that are ready to go straight onto the layers pellets. There's a chap here who's got 20 Japs 5wks old £1.50 each.
  17. He is stunning. I really like him... hows he bred mate, very smart looking dog you got there Thank you. He's 2nd generation. Sire:Deerhound/Greyhound X Saluki/Greyhound. Bill Doherty's lines. Dam: Deerhound/Greyhound X Saluki/Greyhound Dave Platts. A great dog to teach and a fast learner, very gutsy, hopefully have some good seasons with him in the near future.
  18. I keep a few Bob whites and Golden Italian. The japanese coturnix are not as flighty as the chinese painted. I have them in a low ceiling run, that way they dont have the speed to fly up and break their necks. It's called "Boinking". You will hear loads of horror stories but if you listen to them all then no one will ever have them. Just try not to spook then, slowly drag your feet or something to make them aware your coming. They live up to about 2 years, however I've got a jap here thats nearly 3! Eat them after 2 years. Lay loads of eggs on the floor, and the will not go in coops like
  19. I always liked the look of that dog. I know pictures can mean anything, but that one there does it for me.
  20. L&B, you are on about "Livestock" I'm on about "Game Birds" two different things under Defra. Anyone can worry game birds, however under Defra there is no power as a farmer/keeper to shoot, or order you to leash your dog. This is purely about not having to leagally leash your dog up espeacially this time of year, however SOME keepers expect you to do so, and believe it's "Law" to do so. Wrong. This doesn't mean that the first pen you see, you release the dog onto it, thats a seperate isssue and anyone doing that then deserves what they get.
  21. REALLY...omg i had not realised!....And there was me thinking it was rocket science If you read my post AGAIN, i did not mention hares as included as a definition of 'livestock' the hares...... or rabbits, seagulls or pink fookin pixies...anything your heart desires...if it is chased by your dog on land and you are unable to call it off and straight back to heel, your dog is classed as NOT UNDER CONTROL, therefore needs to be leashed. Oh dear.... I rest my case.
