  1. You shouldnt just leave it! The least you need to do is make sure its kept clean. And dosent get infected. I would have thoroughly cleaned it out straight away. Then put a few stitches into it. Then put a sterile pad over it(kind with sticky edges. And held on with vet-wrap. If the dog is a bad scratter, would put a 'lampshade' collar on aswell. May need antibiotics, may not. Hope this helps mate, had 3 or 4 like that (or worse) to deal with, with my lurcher. Helps having a vet in the family though!! Edited to add that the wound would need daily cleaning and a new sterile pad.
  2. RIP Smokey Sorry for your loss, they all gotta go at some point. Nice to hear how well she served you. You must feel very proud.
  3. If you had allready caught a rabbit in the trap, how did the fox get in there aswell????
  4. Looks a similar view Woodga, but it is in fact Greenlee lough, not Derwent mate!!
  5. Use your rifle.......lol
  6. Denbeigh Army Surplus does( or did) Lowa mountain gore tex, from £35, had a few pairs off them, but not for a couple of years. The ones I have still going strong.
  7. Sorry to hear that, good luck for the future.
  8. Like I said, I heard a cuckoo today, the first for me this year. It was on the other side of the lake. In Northumberland.
  9. Biggest Spelk I EVER Seen!!!!
  10. Hello and welcome! Hope you enjoy life down south.
  11. Cheers FJager! I had always wondered why they had that wild look about them! Thanks again for a very informative answer Dogs-n-natives
  12. I know that theres feral pigs in Aus, and the States. But what breed of pig are they derived from? Or could it be a few breeds?
  13. I have a few friends in the New Forest area, but havent been down there for a good ten years now. I can remember some large white sows wandering about with piglets in late summer- I think they were released into the forrest to feed on the beack mast etc.. I was wondering, could some of these pigs or piglets have avoided re-capture, and become feral? And, can feral/domestic pigs cross breed with european wild boar?
  14. Same story from me, I would take them off a lurcher. After seeing my friends lurcher constantly injuring them.
  15. Ive had a 10/22 for about three years now. Had more trouble with the magazines than the rifle. Only gets problems if its not clean. My friends was jamming in a similar fashion, ill ask him what the problem was and how he fixed it. Mine is no special model, just a standard 10/22 with a decent scope and its a useful tool. Great fun! Hope you get to the root of the problem masmiffy
  16. Well done s.h. How many more of the 5 did the keeper shoot? What are your greyhound crosses crossed with? I thought that greyhound crosses were called 'lurchers' these days? Could be wrong...lol
  17. They are good to place against the edge of a stone wall etc if you make them this way too OTC Yes ive done this too!! Also used some old stone 'cowels'?? (The 'v' shaped stone that runs along the roof of a house/barn) But they were a little stumpy, so they were propped against walls etc.. They were lying around, so we used them in the immidiate locality. Quite heavy to move about though! But worked a treat!
  18. Hi everyone, Up until now my lad has managed to avoid damaging his feet. Even though he is used on lots of rough and stoney ground. Out the night before last. The lurcher tore off both his front inside claws/nails. Theres a bit left on each. Obviously the toes have been kept clean and washed regularly. I use hibiscrub, and have put a 'sock' type bandage over, to keep clean. Is there anything I need to do to ensure a speedy recovery? How can I avoid the same thing happening again? Any help will be much appreciated Dogs-n-Natives
  19. I wouldnt wory about being on the fringe of town. The pigeons in the arable areas are more likely to carry toxins from the pesticides etc.. Dont want to worry anyone, ive been eating them all my life and had no probs. Me and alimac made pigeon burgers once, mouthwateringly goood!! Im not 100% on the recipie we used, but I think it was: Minced pigeon breast, finely chopped onion, chives. Egg to bind together. Just improvise, there fecking lovely.
  20. The lurcher looks a belter! As does the dam! Presuming that both parents are well tested in the field, the pups should be very useful with the right owners. Keep us posted on their progress! Good luck mate
  21. Aye your tunnel should keep the dogs noses clear of the trap. Ive found the same problems with poisons. Just try different makes/poison types, and you should find one that kills them.
  22. Not knocking what you've made, but I wouldnt have bothered with the ramps, or even the entire floor. I just dig a bit out for the trap to lie in. The easiest way is just three bits of plank nailed together. But also to stabilise the tunnel and hold the trap steady, I use a couple of stabilising pieces, crossing the floor. I have been running up to 250 tunnel traps over the last few years, and its the easiest and quickest method. Just a point though, some hazel stakes (or similar) should be cut, to restrict entry. Just my thoughts on the subject. All the best
  23. Well made chris When I made some out of the same type of pole I also used a thick rubber band. Worked well for me. Im glad you posted this, as I havent used sticks for a couple of years, they are very handy in many situations. Going to get myself out and make some before I start on the roe bucks.
