  1. mooching is great crack, but we all know daytime rabbits are very hard to catch. And a big prob for a green young dog, [if] they see [to many] rabbits getting away, they might think [all] get away.?? It will be [ok] to take it , it will learn its field craft. But try not to show it to much stuff, when you know it aint going to catch them. I always start young dogs in the lamp 1st about August.
  2. Good read , but having had bull breeds[ bullmastiffs,staffs,pit]20years, and grew up with staffs. You carnt get away from there power+tenacity, which alot of breeds dont have. Pits are pound for pound, the strongest of all dogs fact.My 1x colliexgrey Bryn, is a strong dog for his size. And the way he crunches beef bones, like most type lurchers with norm type jaws, shocks you at times . But the jaw power of most bull breeds is in a differnt league to them. Bull breeds do make good pets , and yes collie's can be nasty feckers+bite, just go round some farms.? But if i had to get bite by a co
  3. What a joke !!! .Of all the fields to refuel in he chooses one where a hunt is taking place !! .What sad people these antis are when the life of a fox is more important than a humans to them !!! . Yep, what a waste of life, just because of a fox which prob got away anway
  4. Like i said before, a (bullxgreyx salukixgrey) must bring more wind [stamina]than just a straight greyhound, and alot of salukixs have good prey-drive. Maybe i am wrong, but you would think so with that extra bit of saluki in there.
  5. What about bullxgreyx salukixgrey, whats there wind like +prey drive whin ??
  6. fair point, had alot of lurchers over the years, only kept one till she died of old age.The others never made old bones, most got hurt working . So mine are workers 1st, pet 2nd. If you think about it, when lurchers were 1st (created)they were kept to put food on the table, and if they (didnt) do that they (werent)kept
  7. bird

    tumbler

yep ,(pigeon) not a fecken (dog)
  8. (90 mph) thats how fast, with plenty of bottle on a tea tray :tahumbs: well done lass [and you would 'nt kick her out of bed]
  9. Good post, but personally I,ve always used my dogs for lamp and day time (ferreting, bushing etc.) and never had a problem. Free rein in the day time, instant return when lamp goes out, thas what I expect and all the dogs I,ve ever trained have responded easily. spot on bud, my lurchers are used for everything, not only a one job tool, as said if the basics are there should be no problem. In the day my lurchers hunt, and at night soon as lamp off come instantly back, good luck to you, but try to open the dogs mind to all forms of hunting Which first - any preference.I would have thought
  10. you right mate, a nice lighter type salukix, thats what i would get next time. They will run all night bags of wind+drive.
  11. yep, a hare in the day is 100 times harder, than in the night. But some hares in the night which have had a light on them before, can on (big) fields can really push your average lamping dog. And if you are just after rabbits that night, 2-3 runs on hares ,will only give you smaller rabbit bag Bird, Chris has seen your dog, it seems by your accounts your dog is a big heavy type of dog , i suppose it isn,t suited to catching hares being the size he is, a good lamping dog should be able to run hares and still run and catch rabbits, if it has plenty of stamina. regards lamperjohn.
  12. yep, same here [10] days from frozen, never had any worms.
  13. it does know where to go because i chased 1 over a month on the lamp and it made my dog look silly everytime,so i went up and had a look in the day and found a big hole in the fence so i blocked it up went back with the lamp that night and caught it no bother so there you go they know exactly where there going and if they manage to reach that bit before the dog they win everytime do you hunt for sport or pest control

  15. Nice dogs, how much bull in them, like abit of bull in a lurcher
  16. Yes seen them do it before, but if they got balls+brains to do that,i would let them go.Its only a feckin rabbit or even a big rabbit, there is always another rabbit.
  17. It sounds like you are doing a good job with jumping+stock ' Its always a good thing to have a dog do. Bryn
  18. Nice pup, my mate had dog the same way bred as yours, and it was great dog.He was 27in 70lb, good on foxes+hares and not bad on rabbits. This was in 90, for his breeding he had good stamina,as good as any 1x.
  19. Yep, sounds a good x . plenty of drive+stamina and bit of brain.Should handle any quarry
