  1. I posted this reply in another topic. ""I reload for 12 bore, Duck and Goose shells in the main, I also reload for my 8 bore but thats a bit different. I shoot steel from the 12 bore in 2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2 inch shells, some of the 3 1/2" shells travel at 1700 fps. If you want to shoot normal stuff then I would say the cost of setting up and the amount of shells shot would not justify the costs. If you are looking to shoot duck and goose then yes it is as the shells are so expensive. If you are interested, as it is good fun and can be addictive, have a look at www.midwayuk.com, or clay/ga
  2. I think so, the blackboard paint is about as matt as you can get, the only thing that we are trying to avoid is a glare which is non evident with the blackboard paint. I think it should work, one coat should be enough.
  3. Thanks for that information. I will try that process out to the letter and let you know the result. No problem, Just drop me a PM when youve done it.
  4. I have a few, around 15 or so, they were beginning to look a bit shabby and so I painted them with blackboard paint. If you want some really effective decoys which are cheap and so easy to make yourself then try this. Get a sheet of 2mm plywood, print off a lifesize picture of a crow from the web and cut it out, Draw as many silhouettes of the crow on the ply as you can, while leaving a 5 cm spike where the feet should be so that you can stick them in the gorund. and cut the out with a jigsaw. Paint them on both sides with blackboard paint and leave to dry. When shooting place the decoys
  5. All the best and I wish Mum and Baby a safe arrival and best wishes for the future. Regards SS
  6. Excellent News FT, I hope he and mum are relieved and well. Regards SS
  7. Before I say anything else, DO NOT put boiling water in your gun barrels, especially that of an older gun, because the water is boiling it speeds up the reaction time for the metal to oxidise, this is only serving to wear out your barrels faster. The metal on older barrels is different in that it is not chrome lined, your coey probably is and makes it easier to clean as the dirt does not stick to chrome as easily as bare metal. If the barrel is pitted then it is permanent damage and either the barrels will have to be ''lapped out'' or sleeved. If, however, he barrels are normally clean then
  8. Right then everyone, lets clear a few things up. Right to Roam does not extend to every piece of land in this country, Unauthorised access on land is trespass, with a gun-armed trespass, with a dog-aggrivated trespass. Dog_on , we are all slaves, you pay taxes, you are a slave. It makes no difference whether a law is crap or not, it must be obeyed it does nothing in favour of anyone if they are ignored, some will always disagree with a law, if everyone who disagreed with a law broke it then you would end up with oppression of everyone. It seems you are throwing your toys out of the pram
  9. A poacher with a gun is the same as a poacher with a dog, I would have no reservations about shouting down a shooting poacher more than a hunting poacher. The deer on this particular estate are both shot and run, we find the majority of them have been shot and wounded, occasionally we come across a wounded deer that has been run, in any case the deer are hacked into pieces, the poachers leave what they do not want lying on the ground. I fear the romantic image of a village gentleman poacher is gone, there are not many left, these poachers are criminals, they do not have respect for the quarr
  10. So you condone the suffering of Deer and other animanls then do you dog on? Poaching which is a serious problem. The fact that people are shooting at an animal as large as deer with a rimfire is hideous. I would never condone such action and neither should anyone else.
  11. Another truly excellent read Ditch, No sooner is the book published, I will be getting a copy! Im glad some sort of redress of grievance was in order, I just google searched youre rifle , very good looking and interesting piece of kit. Lots of great detail, I felt as if I were walking next to you, got a picture of the land in my head and its nice to hear of the Hornet being put to good use. Keep up with regular reports, Regards SS One for Lady!
  12. Nobody who is close to you will ever leave your thoughts. Forever in Thought , Always in Heart. Think of the good memories always. SS
  13. In the UK trespass by an individual is a civil offence, meaning you cannot go to jail for it. If you trespass and cause damage then it becomes a criminal as matter as does it if you carry a firearm, armed trespass. If the dog is worrying or attacking livestock then the farmer is supposed to give two warnings before he can kill or take your dog, if he shouts at you twice and then shoots your dog, then he is within his rights, this is only if the dog is worrying livestock. He must then inform the police of the incident within 48 hours. The police can arrest you for civil matters and obviousl
  14. I have not long done the same on my .17HMR and what a difference, it seems to make the longer shots an awful lot easier. Which tube did you put in? And as for the price, the first 100+ yard crow that was shot with it cancelled out the cost straight away. SS06
  15. If you have a three inch gun then I would go with the magnums loaded with either 6 or preferably 7 shot. It will give you more pellets in a small load like the .410, I use eley magnum 18gr in no 7 for bunnies.
  16. 17. If I were to be specific I would say around....yards. It may be less or it may be further. SS06
  18. What was it just an unpaid bill? As Deker says, the old hunting folklore saying, Have a word with BASC.
  19. I doubt it would apply to you unless there is a clause which says it applies to Crown Dependencies too, as the Isle of Man is not part of the UK(officially). The Act applies to Great Britain, is the IofM part of GB? If I were you I would find out via the Tynwald in some form as this is the only way to be sure.
  20. What sort of offence are we talking about here, it will depend on the type and the consequent actions taken as to whether they grant you an FAC.

  22. Nice going GW. Always good to see a few more in the bag, the cubs will not be far behind them I shouldnt wonder. This is essential fox control and I am glad to see success. That .17 Rem seems to be doing the business and unless im mistaken, the bullet almost always stays within the body? Regards SS
  23. Just one problem, were quite a few hundred miles away! If anyone on here wants one, Ill send them your way. SS
  24. It means the amount of pressure per square centimetre. PSI and KG/Cm2 dont mix they are imperial and metric. 1360 KG/Cm2 works out to around 20,000 PSI. This is known as the service pressure, what the proof house expects cartridges to produce when out in the field. The proof test is considerably higher pressure to account for any rise in pressure and so the barrels dont burst. SS
