  1. An excellent read there John, theres nothing better than a few hours out with the gun to relieve anxiety and boredom, I did the same thing earlier, I didnt have as much luck as you though. That caller is superbly effective for you, bringing a fox to 30 yards and the trusty Baikal did its job too. Good Shooting SS
  2. I had the same experience on my rimfire when it had a Nikko Nighteater on it, It would lose zero when only bumped or knocked and not bad knocks either, at a 100 yard zero it would be 3 inches to the left. I have taken it off now and taken it back, I have a Leupold on it now. I wouldnt say it is normal but it obviously happens a more than thought, I just thought it was a dogdy scope or that the mounts were loose but they were fine as was the scope, tight as necessary Regards SS
  3. Hi Keith, When I acquired the ground the first thing I did was to ring my Firearms Dept to see if I could use my other rifles there and luckily they are both passed to .243. This time it will only be to get the supervision condition taken off and hopefully a .22LR put on. I will apply in a few years to have an open certificate. I have been making notes on the amount of opportunities I have had to turn down, many in other police force duristictions and so I should have a good case for an open in a few years. Thanks Again SS
  4. In my ideal political fore, there would be no party politics of any kind. Every MP would be elected on their own merit, the equivalent of an independent nowadays. The MP's would then vote how their constituents wanted on the manifesto's they were elected on and not in line with the part Whips. The idea of "toeing the party line" is barbaric and wholly undemocratic. The Prime Minister would be elected by the House, by MP's and not by the party. He would then, as now choose a cabinet. There would be no majority in Parliament and so no way of sailing government bills through, each
  5. Says the man with an Anarchist symbol as his avatar :whistling: Lol thats not an anarchist symbol its the cover art for The Venture Bros http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gnn0Vd3qNfQ I know mate, was only jokin, the skull and crossbones is the Anarchists "cause celebre", just struck me when I looked at it. And seen as this is a political thread thought id give the Anarchists and "smash the state" lot a mention, then laugh at them
  6. I am lucky in three respects, I know my FEO very well I have shot with him for a few years now since I had my SGC, He only lives 5mins from me and is a very knowledgeable man to know, not necessarily about firearms law mind you but other things such as reloading and rifle shooting, he has aroun 50 in his collection. He also gave me 750 and 2000 for the .222 and .17HMR respectively. I will certainly honour your advice and ask him first. I hope there will be no problem, My police force are quite good, they did my FAC in six weeks so I am lucky, I know some would kill for 6 months let alone

  8. I have the same amount for the other rimfire so I thought it would be OK. If you really think that I would be better applying for less then I will. SS
  9. The Thickness of Two Very Short Planks comes to mind
  10. Thank you for your replies, It seemed the most logical next step, I should have put in for it on first grant but I didnt want to push things. Unless I go into deer within the next five years, this is likely to be the only change to my ticket. I will get the forms ready and apply for 2000 rounds to keep and 1000 to buy, I have 1000 to buy and 2000 to keep for the .17HMR and 500 to buy and 750 to keep for the .222. The major reason is the silent nature of it with a mod and subs. Fingers crossed. SS
  11. Boris Johnson has just been declared the Mayor of London with a 140,000 vote majority. The Conservatives also gained a majority in the London Assembly. What do you all think of this, Disaster or Triumph, Anything Likeyly to change or not? SS
  12. I agree Rolfe, You should not go on what happened in the past, it is what you want now that matters. Since the time of Thatcher and Major, there is a new leader, over half of the MP's are new and younger, and the Labour government has now shown itself to be incompetent at managing the economy when it changes its Chancellor. I am not advocating the Conservatives specifically, that would be wrong, but you need to decide on what is needed and not was done by previous parties. The changes that the country went through in the 's were inevitable and needed, the same will happen in France in the
  13. Look like this Ditch, this is a Great Horned Owl, nearest I could find.
  14. I am in two minds. I have not had my FAC long and I am due to put it in, in a few months to have to supervision condition taken off for my centrefire. I have acquired a few pieces of permission which are close to habitation and others which I would like to leave fairly quiet as they are full( and I mean FULL!) of wild Pheasants which are breeding. My question is, should I put in for a .22 LR and Mod so that a) I dont disturb the neighbours and b.) so that I can wreak silent havok on the crows and magpies. I have a .17 HMR which is too noisy so this seems the logical way to go. Do you thin
  15. Its those Grey Squirrels, Ditch, they are out to get you already. Another Excellent read, I cant wait for the book. Regards SS
  16. That would be interesting, with the roll the Conservatives are on it may just happen, you never know, he may win by the accumulation of the second preference vote. SS
  17. Even though the Gunshops are for the very rich or Lottery winners, its worth going to have a look, they are fascinating and the people who run them are pretty friendly and understanding too. When I went to London the last time, I went to Purdey, Holland and Holland, Boss and Co and the Beretta showroom, they were all fascinating and were oozing money and history. The Beretta showroom was fantastic, the quality of the Guns, Clothing and other Accessories was superb. Have a look at their websites to see where they are, they are all within five minutes walkign distance of eachother. Regards
  18. The Conservatives have pledged to put the issue of the Hunting Act to a free vote in the Commons. This is where there are no pressures from the Whips and the MP's can act as they see fit. This issue came up in Prime Ministers Questions on Wednesday and Gordon Brown recommended that the House should accept the decision that has already been taken. If the Conservatives do win the General Election in 2009/10 with a large majority then we may just see a return it all depends on how well the MP's are lobbied and what their own consciences tell them to do. I wouldnt expect it to be repealed with
  19. First off I must say I have never owned one and am used to shooting Browning/Miroku's. I have shot a round of sporting with one. My first impressions, while shooting a Rabbit, were good and that it was comfortable to shoot, even more so if the adjustable stock were to be adjusted to me. I shot some stands well with it but then it turned to disaster when it came to higher birds and crossers. The balance of the gun on these shots was bad in my opinion. It felt to me like swinging a drainpipe, the one factor I can attribute to this is the light nature of the stock as it contains no wood and s
  20. Those .17 Remington loads of yours are proving lethal Gary. I was thinking of a .17 Rem myself for sometime in the future for pure fox control as they are getting the results for many. A nice write up too, I have a golf course permission and it is one of the more difficult areas to shoot over. Ive switched to shooting 40gr Vmax in the .222 there now as they normally stay within the carcass if hit in the engine room front on. Regards SS
  21. A .270 for targets,Ouch! The .308 seems to be the rational choice, a friend has one for target work. Have you thought about two rifles, a .308 for larger Deer and target and a .243 for smaller Deer and occasional targets.
  22. We wont know, the English ones until later on, Welsh ones tomorrow lunchtime and the london mayor until tomorrow evening.
  23. What are you planning on shooting them with, 150-200 yards is within range of any .22 Centrefire. If a shotgun, then you would need to be a very experienced caller to get them to under 40 yards and at this time of year it is nigh on impossilbe. If you do not own a .22 C/F the im sure you know someone who does. GaryW gave a very good tip of putting bait out to make them stay for just long enough. Regards SS
  24. Voting Closed. Well done to all those who voted and to those who chose not to for a good reason. "Power tends to corrupt, Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely"-Lord Acton 1834-1902
  25. Cant see any reason not to myself...Dogs go ratting and tear them to bits getting rat shit and god knows what else in there mouth, if that dosent do them any harm then a few crows wont. But feeding it to them everyday? They dont eat rats everyday do they. I can see what nutritional value the dogs would get from Crow meat, sure theres plenty of Iron in it but I cant imagine them getting the vitamins and minerals they need to keep fit and healthy.
