I was walking round the local estate recently and saw a green budgie in the woods interacting with a load of other small British birds quite naturally ,saw a pair of macaws flying free in Blaise  castle woods as a kid looked quite impressive in flight think the polecats we are all seeing are bred and released like the otters though otters are now a self sustaining population seems the people behind this rewilding caper have now moved onto pine martinis so should be seeing lots of them sunning themselves on the side of roads this year got this beaver about 25mile from were I live no official release site around here otters have absolutely devastated the water foul population it’s incredible how destructive they are they hit the pike giddy when they came into spawn feb March now absolutely battering the nesting waterfowl finding signs of raided nests most mornings surprising what’s out there when you really look  lol

Yes I went to the public consultation meeting for the Forest of Dean pinemartins it was at Chepstow I was still living in Monmouthshire then . They admitted they had some in pens so it was pretty forgone conclusion they was going to be let out.
think the wildcats will be next big thing .

Essex is lifting with fallow deer, there’s that big group graze at the side of the M25 of an evening and I don’t think that can be too far from you but more than that, head off into North Essex in the wee small hours and I have seen fields with 70 plus beasts stood in there like they don’t have a care in the world.

Further out still, head out overnight to Woburn Abbey area and it’s unbelievable, muntjac just walking about at the side of the lanes, fallow, CWD……brilliant

I remember 20 years ago going from Epping to Basildon and there would be 20 odd fallow in a field then go mile down the road  there would be another bunch .

Dorset has loads of sika spreading from the Poole area you can travel early morning and see similar numbers in a field that’s got woods behind it ,then couple fields down another  bunch .

Mate had one on his bird feeder in Gloucester a few years back

It’s interesting to know which are recent escapees and which are (wild)

When I was a kid there was a pair of rosellas hanging around a small overgrown disused orchard in the village they had escaped from somewhere but after month or more they disappeared.

Its funny what you get used to id quite like the sound of gulls it would remind me of being at the seaside  probably do my nut in after a while though...... i could stand outside looking to the sky for an hour and probably see more Red Kites and Parakeets than id see Pigeons the Kites i quite like but the Parakeets just dont stop making a racket till complete darkness !

Where I’m to it’s robins and blackbirds at dawn with plump wood pigeons bonking on the roof 😂

everyone says you  get used to the seagulls after a while but I’m only there at weekends so I don’t get used to it 👍

Like everything they will spread as the population grows and they need to find new territories for nesting sites and food ..I'm sure you'll see them in Dorset and theyll be in Devon making a racket!

I think it was on a fb bird watching page I seen it there was talk of a colony of budgies as well .
The way the peregrines are spreading as well they will be glad of the food source .

Them green Parakeets drive me f****n mental screeching little c**ts another bird we've got in abundance round these parts.

I feel same about herring gulls  they sometimes keep going through the night if there’s plenty of street lights . And really start at dawn in the summer .

Same here mate, only seen red kite twice down here but loads of buzzards, but travel along the M4 and as soon you pass Swindon it's all red kites and less buzzards.. same with those parakeets around London, i remember 20 odd years ago seeing a couple of them at my uncles in Surrey and being fascinated by them, now they are everywhere up there, you see more of them than pigeons! Some animals really prosper kites are certainly one of them, from a few releases and feeding stations to thousands of them...

You reminded me someone pictured a ring neck in a garden in Dorset other day an a few people said they had spread all over London .but looks like they are starting to live in Dorset ?

  8. First time I seen a red kite was when I lived in wales in  2011 an it was near Abergavenny .
Moved to Dorset in 2018 and seen pair at stourhead house in summer then would see them near blandford when hay or silage was being cut and now see them nearly every month even seen one at ringstead near Weymouth .
same with polecats seen loads dead on road near Monmouth one up near Dan yr ogof caves area.
couple years ago I seen one  in summer near wareham and yesterday I seen one roadkill near bere Regis .
Unfortunately it’s either predators or deer that’s spreading while lot of other species are declining .

More concerned how they treat their staff tbh Morrisons have took over a few local co ops around me and the poor staff have to put up with some right shite from feral youths thieves and junkies who come in the shop stealing and causing trouble and Morrisons will not pay for a security guard to give the staff some piece of mind wile they do their job.

The local One normally has a security guard on front door . But yeah my niece left Morrisons years ago because of how she was treated .

Its all been done for a reason...they been telling us not to harvest shellfish etc from our coast line and rivers for 30 yrs or more...but its good enough for the french/Spanish to buy from us and eat it?every cnut has access to our waters for fishing....why do we import Lamb, beef, pork etc when we have the farmland etc here?,stop us keeping a few chickens etc, your discouraged from growing your own fruit and veg, and encouraged to spend out on takeaways and delivery....its there, plain as day in front of you...

An if you do you get viewed as an oddball or reported or blamed if a rat is seen .
I read somewhere that lawns were a sign of status that showed you didn’t have to grow your own produce .
can you imagine if imported veg and other food stopped coming and people had to start growing their own bet most wouldn’t have a clue .

  11. Been watching that on a Monday evening  on talking pictures on sky ,

someone told me he wasn’t that knowledgeable on country stuff and was told alot of it ,but he had a air about him that made him a good tv presenter .

The missus and I were just talking about this.

We remember when high streets had pork butchers, wet fish shops, greengrocers, hardware shops, instead of estate agents , charity shops and fast food outlets…..but we ARE very old though ! LOL !

    Cheers.

I’m not quite 50 and can remember the same .

The reason i know this, Is because i brought a loaf of. Hovis. Sunblest. Warburtons. Robertson's, Asda`s own, Tesco`s own, Morrisons own and Greggs, Placed them on the table in the shed and inspected them for Mould daily. Most lasted between 4 and 7 days but the Greggs stuff, Wow it`s unreal. it feels as fresh after a fortnight as it felt the day it was purchased, Possibly make you glow green at night if you ate to much of it though Lol.

Makes you wonder I don’t eat in greggs luckily , but hovis like you say will last up to a week . I used to prefer braces bread when I lived up wales .

Even a lot of the wholemeal and multi grain breads would shock you if you took time to look at the ingredients. Its whya lot of modern breads last for over a week in the cupboard now.30 or 40 ingredients in something that should only need 4 max.I cant remember the exact ammount but I was reading somewhere about how much sugar is in a slice of wharburtons seeded bread. It would be healthier to have a slic of cake.

I’m not diabetic but my dad is on tablets for it an my sister an her kid on insulin

but I had problems with white bread so switched to 50/50 then brown but my parents told me other day they seen in news even that’s getting dyed ?

funny thing is I  can seem to tolerate white flatbreads and muffins or wraps etc .

Couldn’t they have just placed the sign 1/2 a mile down the road!

May be an image of road, grass and text

Seen that  one doing the rounds , if I remember rightly half mile down the road is no where suitable for it lol.
