I have 2 dogs in a kennel next to 2 bitches in another.
They get a bit restless but nothing too bad. A jug of water soon shuts them up.
Just make sure one door never gets open until the other is shut.

only had 1 runner this year, he will pick cold game up no problem its just when they have been shot any ideas on how to cure this?? no rib damage just the feathers coming out!!
Of course they don't come out of cold game. A warm bird is far softer and feathers frequently come out, especially when retrieved by smaller dogs.
You are trying to fix something that isn't broken

Feathers coming out don't indicate hard mouth.
Have you checked each bird for rib damage from the dog?

Hi All
Does anyone know or have available a syndicate place on a Walked Up / Rough shoot for next season
I am a experienced safe insured gun with trained dogs.
I am based in Lancashire but willing to travel up to 100 miles in any direction for the right shoot.
Happy to assist on the shoot with any tasks that need doing. Fence building, feeding, pest contol etc.
PM me in confidence.
Thanks

Said it before on here, I've seen some terriers do a great job beating. Nice and steady around the birds and don't disappear off up front.
The problem, especially on big shoots is if a rabbit gets up. Off goes the terrier & if it runs forward it could ruin the whole drive as you have been gently pushing the pheasants towards a flush point.
Overall it's the same for every dog. Under control, your welcome. Out of control, leave it in the car

Nice pup
As you got him off Opie then make sure you tap him up for some tips. You won't go far wrong if you follow his advice.

Jacket arrived & is currently being tested in this wee frost snap !!!!

Hi all,
Relatively new to shooting but have always kept dogs.
I love my Mastiffs but they are and always will be pets, keen to get and bring on a gun dog (spaniel or lab) but haven't a clue where to start.
Does a book exist for people like me?
ATB
Mick.
What type of shooting do you / will you do?
Help decide which route to go down.

Great price for cockers

I wouldn't use a chicken unless you plan on shooting them later.
I'd use a pigeon though a few use quail.
Both are easy to get and keep. They can both be trained to home so when you flush them later in the training you'll get your birds back

I have a gsp she's touching 2 years old now, i have her since she was 9 months, she won't point or hold on point , she just keeps flushing the birds every time... some help please as she's my first gsp and gun dog,, thanks
Have you tried steadying her up on a lead? Use a collar & lead (not a slip lead)
Easier with caged game. Walk dog towards bird (remember wind direction) and when she goes on point, gently hold her on the lead. Just keep reassuring her that she's doing right while you hold her.
For the 1st few times Id then pick her up & carry her away from the game. Once she gets the hang you can then flush the birds yourself & sit the dog to flush.

No probs.
Good Luck
