  1. I had a pup spaniel nicked about 2 yrs ago, while Pikeys we're in the area (c*nts). Left the adults dogs & only took the pup, probably easier to get a quick sale down the pub.

Much to my surprise I got a call 11 months later to say it had been found 100 miles away & handed over to the local vets. Dog had a few "mental" issues when I got it back as it had obviously be given a few kickings. Time & patience has sorted it and he is back working now.

    The advantage of micro-chipping.

    Good Luck getting them back.

  2. Edward Martin will forget more about gundogs that most on here will ever know. His depth of knowledge is superb & I find his manner excellent on the DVDs. He really shows the difference that cockers bring to the shooting field & the different way they need to be handled in training.

Davie is also a top man who has a brilliant style that comes across well in the DVDs.

I have both sets and would recommend them all. If you want a cocker specific dvd then I would try & get the Hawcroft gundog Series by Simon Tyers.

  3. You calling a dog is not the same as the previous owner calling the dog, everbody has different pitch, levels etc.

If it's outside then when you feed it give the recall command YOU want to use as it comes into its bowl. (it's already on its way so you cannot fail). Do that for a week or so and then just extend it. when its out playing & coming towards you just give the recall command (it's already on its way so you cannot fail). Do that a couple of times each play session, praise the dog 7 then let it continue playing.

Then once you know it knows the command you can start it in a formal setting. Sit the dog, back away a few yards & then give the recall. Do this a few times but finish by leaving it sitting and then going back to the dog. Just build, build, build.

  4. I have had a dog stolen & returned 10 months later because it was chipped so I support anything that reduces the crime.

This will do nothing to reduce the theft.

Longers sentences for the criminals, a police force that actually takes it seriously & most of all, people NOT BUYING dogs that are far too cheap would reduce the theft rate.

The thought of seeing all my dogs running around with this visible branding on them is a no no to me. My dogs working ability is the most important thing but I still don't want them to look like a mini hoarding board.

  5. I believe Wemmergill has had a few great days so far. Considering the investment made in terms of money & manhours they deserve it.

The wildlife will no doubt be a million times better than it was, but don't suppose that matters to those who are anti the shooting.

I'll be out next week on our shoot which borders a grouse moor. Just me & the dog, so if a grouse gets up I hope I get it. (The grouse moor owners don't mind the very few we take on our side as at least we are also managing the vermin)

  6. Shocking news.

There is a bloke on the gundogtrainingforum who has recently had to hand raise new pups. Get on there & post, je'll come & give you advice.

It certainly won't be easy but good luck with it.
