It seems to be because the Irish government tried to bring in two new laws to change the constitution and in a referendum the Irish people comprehensively rejected them.
It was about more woke nonsense about removing the word “woman” from the constitution, as far as I can tell.

I had NV years ago, and you could scan the area without putting the lamp on, so you didn’t scare the quarry or let anyone know you were about, but it was just another thing to carry and I soon stopped using it and went back to basics.

Not all; I’ve got permission on a farm and the farmer said take as many rabbits as I want but leave the hares and roe alone as he likes to see them. Shame that, as hare and roe are my favourite quarry, but having the permission does give me a bit of cover if I get a pull when coming home from elsewhere !

In “rough shooting” a couple of “guns” will just walk the land and have a pop at what jumps up, but , as you say, a “formal “ hare shoot will usually do “walk one, stand one”; which is if there are ,say, twenty “guns”, ten will stand in a line while the others drive the hares towards them, then they will change places for the next drive. Some of the big shoots will kill hundreds of hares.
The hares in these places seem to survive, and breed to replace the stock for the next years shoot, but I know of places, my brother has ferreting permission on one place, where the farmers go out at night on the back of trucks and shoot the hares in the lamp to completely eradicate them in order to stop the coursers and poachers going on the land.
I know that in the grouse shoots, the keepers shoot the hares as they carry a type of flea that infects the grouse.
The hare had a tough old life, but still they seem to be on the increase. I literally see more hares around here than rabbits.

Im certainly no constitutional expert, but if Charles were to abdicate surely the crown would go to the next in succession ?
When Edward v111 abdicated he had no say in who succeeded him.
Perhaps it’s time for a new Cromwell ?

9/11 I was in my office on Jeddah Airport in Saudi and my son ‘phoned me from his office in the British Consulate in Saudi and said “Dad, put your tv on, they are bombing America, we are going into total lockdown, I will call you when I can “ !
My office quickly filled up with people of all nationalities as the drama unfolded.
Then we got the order that the Airline was going into lockdown , all flights cancelled, any aircraft in the air to head for the nearest “friendly “ airport and land.
For a while it really looked like WW3 had started.

I was christened at the Venerable Bede in Jarrow, but am an atheist, but I had to show proof of religion , basically that I wasn’t a Jew, when I went to work for the Saudis in the 70’s, so my baptism certificate was accepted even though I’m a non believer !

Thermal spotters
in Lurchers & Running Dogs

I know, I had experience of thermal imaging long before they became commonly available.
I don’t go out , day or night, to kill every animal in the area, it’s sport to me, with the added bonus of providing a very nice meal.
A decent dog and lamp is all I need.
