Please forgive my ignorance but can trump pull out of nato after all the times the US needed backing in Afghanistan and Iraq?

The US doesn’t need military backing when it goes to war. They only need the political backing of allies, and they don’t REALLY need that either. It just makes their decision to go to war look more acceptable .

Necessity I’d imagine does wonders for the menu.

My old man would eat things that would make a goat puke but that all came from growing up in a family of 9 in the 20s & 30s and then 5 years in a pow camp in the war……it became almost like a party trick to make everyone scream, but he also knew what mushrooms to pick in fields and stuff like that.

But mouldy bread, any type of game or offal or squirrels or anything odd….not a bother, he’s make a meal out of most of it.

    Your dads John Rambo !

The other year we was at the coast and me and kids collected limpets, did them with some garlic butter and sea weed when we got home….very nice they was too

Purge them in cold fresh water overnight, put them on a barbecue, in the shell and add a spoonful of garlic butter, don’t over cook…..free, easy to cook and delicious !

    Cheers.

remember when you went in the chippy it was heaving it had a fresh fish counter with everything

went to shit around the time labour got in

The missus and I were just talking about this.

We remember when high streets had pork butchers, wet fish shops, greengrocers, hardware shops, instead of estate agents , charity shops and fast food outlets…..but we ARE very old though ! LOL !

  5. Tastes change, eel and lamprey were once popular a long time ago, who eats them now ?

Monkfish was only good for fake “scampi”, now it’s an expensive gourmet fish !

We used to get “rock salmon” , (dog fish!),in the fish shops, never see it now.

    Cheers.

  6. I’ve got a lot of these, different sizes.
There’s an old mine shaft near my allotment where a local hospital, now long gone , dumped their rubbish.

Bottle collectors are always digging it up and a lot of the stuff is in good condition.

i was referring to the a sum  of 10k or above  chart

but on the vendor getting the charge do you think they don’t factor that in when they know they have to pay it ?

you never pay cash and they knock the 20 percent off ?

It’s not the banks that confiscate the money, it’s the government. It’s all to do with money laundering.

Of course I’ve had discount for cash, but there are times a transaction can only be done by card.

Are you seriously saying you never use a card ? How do you pay when you book a holiday, how do you pay for your fuel, do you never buy anything off the internet, Amazon, etc, do you never use an Uber or food delivery services?

Some bars I know only take card, when my missus wanted a new phone contract the company would only take card.

Whats wrong with using a debit card ?

    Cheers.

what right have they got to take peoples money ?

banking is all about control nothing else we are going like china

How do they take your money ? When you pay for something by card the vendor pays the fee, not the buyer .

    Cheers.

  9. Cash or card ? I guess it depends on the circumstances.

My missus travels more than most and uses one of her cards for paying for travel on everything from long haul flights, trains, buses, taxis , even tuk tuks in Bangkok or horse drawn carriage in New York , simply because the card comes with very good travel insurance.

As for cash, she was once pulled up by a customs officer with a cash sniffer dog in Heathrow with $10,000 in her bag, she had a very good reason for having it, so no problem, but if you haven’t got a good reason , the cash is gone !

Some times things are cheaper for cash, but on the other hand you have some comeback if you’ve paid by card and something goes wrong.

And let’s not forget, there are places that only accept cards not cash.

So, six and two threes, sometimes cash, sometimes card !

    Cheers.

You said it was lads like you keeping the game alive ???

ergo that would insinuate breeding ??

correct me if I’m wrong .

I’ve never bred a pup in my life. I’ve used a dog or two free of charge at stud.

I didn’t insinuate anything, I replied to Wilf who said it was people throwing dogs out of a motor that were keeping the game alive and I suggested that it was old fuckers like me who were still doing it the old way that were actually keeping the lurcher game going.
We may disagree, that’s fine, but I think, and it’s just my opinion, that when the likes of me, who have seen the game go downhill over the years, retire, that the lurcher game will actually be f****d !

Who is going to carry on ?
    Cheers.

What I’m saying is in short that most dog lads who run like that , don’t give a f**k about anything , including the dogs .

It’s hard to put into words but If a dog in bad hands is still producing the goods , it’s worth breeding from , surely you can see that ?

Still not getting it mate ?
    Who mentioned breeding ?

Some of the best dogs I’ve seen have been owned by people I wouldn’t deal with , and some of the best dogs have, usually, been owned by lads that know the game .

Thats just life……you soon find out the wasters if your in this game long enough.

These days I just do what I want to do, if I need a pup, I know who I can trust, if I want a walk out with someone, it’s my decision, if I make a mistake, that’s my fault….no point in crying about it, just move on.

    Cheers.

I know your tongue in cheek .

me and you have an acquaintance in common, (GH) , he ain’t exactly mr morals when it comes to running dogs but if you wanted summat that’s had the hammer night after night , who do you go to ?

mr sensible or the geezer throwing dogs at stuff in places he has no right to be ?

    it’s a no brainer

I’m honestly not sure what you mean. Stiffy ?
I know WHO you mean, but not WHAT you mean.
I’ve been out with lads who ran bull types out of a motor after big game, ( just the once) , and it was an experience i’ll never forget, and I’m glad I experienced it, but it wasn’t my game; I’m just a bloke who runs running dogs.

    Cheers.

One thing I will say, the lads driving fields and posting on Facebook (whatever anyone thinks of it) DID NOT f**k up hunting, Blair, Banks and a million quid did that.

As the OP proves it’s a bridge too far now for many lads to hunt lurchers, it’s the lads who are out saying “f**k the old bill” and chucking big machines of dogs out of car windows who will keep honest working lurchers alive……no tidy clean, mortgage and job and family to support lad is going to be doing that any more.

As far as I’m concerned the lads out not giving a shit are only giving a “f**k you” back to the powers that be and good for them I say.

No, Wilfy mate, it’s not blokes throwing dogs out of car windows that are keeping the lurcher game going, and I think you said that a bit tongue in cheek !

Its old blokes like me who walk the land, day and night, and try not to attract attention who keep it going.

Its what we do, nothing more , nothing less.

    Its what we enjoy……

    Cheers.

I’ll try and answer this best I can so you get my reasoning and mind set at the minute .

I have a job which a tug and possible conviction if I’m caught could cause problems for me , a lot of my customer base are local farmer/landowners and I doubt they’d take kindly to me having been caught on a neighbors land . I have a family to keep and where when I was younger I wouldn’t have given a toss now I have to .

I’m extremely time poor meaning I can literally get some time out a couple of times a week and a local permission was ideal for me , it meant I could be on the ground in twenty mins from my house and have a enjoyable few hours sport .

im pretty much a loner by nature I have few friends and I naturally rub people up the wrong way ( that’s what few friends I have have told me ) so I don’t really mix with anyone else who’s into dogs like I am .

if you met me you’d probably think I don’t take the Lurcher job seriously, im probably not a serious hunter like most on here im a moocher and hedge backer haha m

no argument from me mate I respect your opinion and get what your asking

Fair enough, mate. As I said , I hope you have happiness and success in whatever you’re doing.

We  all have our lives to live, and it’s all different situations.

It’s just sad to me, that another lad has to leave the game because of situations beyond his control.

Good luck in whatever path you choose.

    Cheers.

  15. Well, I’ve had a long hard think before replying to this thread, but here goes !

I don’t want to upset or argue with anyone, but if lurcher work has been your lifetime sport, I don’t think losing a bit of permission is reason enough to give up the game.

I may be wrong, but if you have “ Poacher” in your user name, isn’t it a bit ironic that you are giving up because you’ve lost your permission ?

How about travelling if it’s to hot in your area ?

How about meeting other people who have permission; I’ve met plenty off here and other sites that didn’t mind me tagging along.

I could be wrong, but I’m sure there’s other reasons you are thinking of giving up the lurcher game other than losing your permission.

If the lurcher game is important enough in your life, you’ll find a way to keep going.

As I say, I don’t want arguments and I’m not having a go at you, and I hope you are happy with whatever you decide.

    Cheers.

  16. I’ve never been to a country where I couldn’t get local currency from an ATM and the rates were always comparable to any other means of exchange.

A couple of tips, if bartering in Turkey, never pay more than half what they first ask .

If you are going to use your card a lot, let your bank know which country you will be in so they don’t put a lock on it for “unusual transactions”.

    Cheers.

  17. When my older brother was training to be a miner, they used to go down a training pit; whitewashed walls and fluorescent lights !

First time he came up from a days graft down a real pit he jacked and retrained as a joiner !

    Edited to add:

As you can see you can not engineer out springs as they are actually part of the strata, you can only TRY and engineer a diversion of course when they over flow (say after a prolonged period of rain) and I’m guessing they ain’t factoring that into most housing development budgets…..Im guessing most builders won’t even commission a geological  survey to see if they are there in the first place.

That’s alright for you to say; but if psi is being used a variable, as it appears here, (h = z + psi), then it’s of no use to Paulus.

It would need to be a constant, relating to the gradient x length, (average), of his property !

Im sure my mate mC would be in complete agreement !

    Cheers.
