What would palmer hope to achieve at Newcastle ?

I would say Newcastle have had an awful season to be honest as they should be well clear of their peers .

same points , wins and losses as Man Utd who according to all media are appalling ?

Utd still have to play arsenal , but there’s a massive game for them both in a head to head , Chelsea also still have two games in hand , they have a hard run in mind with arsenal villa and spurs .

Newcastle could finish below them both still.

I’ve said it before , Newcastle will always  struggle to attract big name stars due to the location . It’s just not where players imagine being

I think it needs to be taken in context, mate.
Until recently Man U have been almost certainties to be in the top four, whereas until fairly recently Newcastle have been relegated twice and perennial struggler’s.

So a top six finish for Newcastle will be considered progress for Newcastle , but a finish outside the top four for Man U will be considered failure.

Its going to be very close between Man U , Newcastle, West Ham, (who have played one game more)and Chelsea , (who have played one game less).

Newcastle have a far better goal difference than the others and appear, on paper at least, to have the “easier” run in.

I’ll consider it great progress if Newcastle finish in the top six, I never expected to equal or better last season’s fourth place finish this season.

As for players not wanting to come to Newcastle, I think they will go anywhere if the moneys right, just look at those who went to Saudi !

Anyhow, I’m enjoying a season where we are challenging, rather than struggling !

    Cheers.

You sound like max charts no offence meant by the way

Difference is I accept that Howe knows far more about football than I’ll ever know, I’m just a supporter.

Slightly off topic, but not by much; yesterday my missus had a chat with Amanda Staveley while she waited for me to pick her up. I was gutted that I did not meet her, but probably just as well as I would have made a fool of myself congratulating her on what her and her partners have done for Newcastle and how she’s running rings around Mike Ashley !
    Cheers.

Add young home grown Lewis Miley and Elliot Anderson and I'd agree.

Yes, of course. I was just really suggesting a first team, as much as I think Miley and Anderson are great prospects they would be understudies to the midfield I mentioned.

    Cheets.

Would rather make plans to protect, secure and further develop what we already have in those positions at Newcastle in my opinion.

    What do you think of this for next season, just utilising what we already have ;

    Pope ( Dubravka).

Trippier, ( Livramento) , Schar, Botman, Hall, (Burn).

    Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton.

    Barnes , Isak, Gordon.

Buy a centre back, a defensive midfielder, and a centre forward, bring in those two young lads that are loaned out in Europe and I’d be happy.

    Cheers.

  5. I see more and more of them each year; they were released at a site just across the river from me and they must be breeding very successfully.

The local pub there has even changed its name to “The Red Kite”.

To be honest Charts, there is only so much you can say about catching rabbits, if you openly post about other things youre a bit of a fool imo...so obviously the hunting side of the forum takes a bit of a knock, which is a shame... We used to post loads on our days/nights out but in the end it gets a bit repetitive and I don't think people are interested in reading it so much...

It leaves us talking about standard men topics, I've always thought its a good forum as everyone is like minded, I've met some great lads off here and a few are now good friends of mine, because we share the same interests, I just don't think posting about hunting in the UK is sendible anymore

I agree, we can’t post or discuss hunting now because because of the draconian punishments.

I, too, have met and made a lot of friends on here, I wasn’t having a go at anyone, just giving my opinion on how these open hunting forums are hamstrung by the law, and how WhatsApp groups are safer, ( for now), for us to discuss our sport.

    Cheers.

Think it’s the bigger picture that’s more alarming really mate no one is scared of the yanks anymore, they are all just openly firing misslies from Yemen irfan and anyone else with gear, China probably make a move on Taiwan next America is loosing its grip on global power and a war is brewing, how long would Israel last if the missiles keep coming night after night and why the f**k do we keep butting in be better off purging our own city’s last night is anything but a success in my mind

These are proxy wars mate, America wont get directly involved until it absolutely has to.

Iran hasn’t got the capacity to launch hundreds of missiles every night but America will supply as many Patriot systems as Isreal needs for the Iron Shield , and has been said earlier, Isreal always has the ultimate deterrent and would use in in the face of an existential threat.

Isreal took out the Iranian nuclear facility once before, putting their nuclear program back years, and would probably do it again.

Im certainly no military strategist and haven’t a clue how this will pan out but I have no doubt America will come to Israel’s aid when it’s needed. They already have a carrier group in the Med and another one on its way to the Red Sea.

Ive got family who live in the area so I’m just hoping it doesn’t escalate out of control.

    Cheers.

  8. Over 330 ballistic missiles and drones launched; only 7 got through and injured one little girl !

Iron Dome seems very effective and evidently us the Americans , Jordanians and the Saudis shot down missiles fired by the Houthi in Yemen that didn’t make it as far as Isreal.

The Hunting Life Forum . or maybe technology moves on

Its not technology, it’s attitudes and laws.

The Hunting Act ruined open hunting forums like this, what’s the point of posting hunting stories and pictures if it will attract arrest and prosecution?

Im on a couple of WhatsApp groups that have a dozen or so members who can post what we want and there’s none of the arguments and nonsense that you get on open forums.
Its a shame that the general section attracts far more discussion than the lurcher section, but there’s probably more members on here now who are more interested in football, politics, conspiracies, etc than are interested in hunting.

    Cheers.

  10. A strange anomaly in the rules, well, for us football types at least;

If Bruno gets ONE yellow card playing for Newcastle on Saturday, it will result in a TWO game ban….if he gets TWO yellow cards, he will get a ONE game ban !!

Its all to do with the “yellow card totting up rule”, which reaches the cutting off point on Saturday for Newcastle.

So, theoretically, if he gets one yellow on Saturday, he’d be better off deliberately getting a second in the dying minutes of the game by cheating; time wasting, kicking the ball away, taking his shirt off, etc, !

    Mad , ehh ???

    Cheers.

I’m just surprised  anyone is surprised by the results.

It didn’t need a poll or investigation to see this, it’s on the news every day, Blair started this with his “multiculturalism “ and now the politicians are too scared of being call “racist” or “islamiphobic” to do anything about it.

    100%

Yeah conquorer was the first big ‘f**k around and find out’ statement of the war.

My comment regarding sitting it out was in reference to conquorer not being singly conclusive (game set and match). The occupation force wasn’t dependent on naval resupply so although a hugely impactful event there was much left to do.

How were the occupation force going to be resupplied ? They couldn’t have brought enough with them to withstand a siege/ stalemate situation , they were looting houses and shops for food.

I didn’t think Conqueror was singly conclusive, I thought it was the single incident that convinced the Argies that we were there to win, the mood change in both countries, indeed around the world, at the time was palpable.

Thatches gamble to sink a ship outside the 200 mile excision zone worked, it showed negotiations were off the table.

Im not a military strategist, I’m just going by what I saw in real time back then and what I read, so it’s just my opinions.

    Cheers.

The sinking of the Belgrano was a decisive and historic event.

But without the equally as decisive actions of many other elements of the task force the war couldn’t have been won. The entire Argentine navy was eliminated with that sinking but the land forces were still being supplied by hercs and the air war was still active from mainland bases.

If the harriers hadn’t completely outperformed what was expected from them, if 3 para hadn’t shown the grit and professionalism they had, if 40 Cdo hadn’t yomped when their rides didn’t turn up, if the Vulcans hadn’t put a big target on the mainland etc etc the argies would’ve just sat tight and waited us out. So many elements of that task force out performed what was expected of them.

Of course the war was multi faceted but sinking the Belgrano showed we were not afraid to use everything at our disposal including nuclear powered subs if necessary.

The Vulcan raid was in the same vein, it told the Argentinians that we could bomb their mainland if we wanted to.

Our land forces showed a professionalism way above the enemy.

All the elements came together but I still say  the sinking of the Belgrano was the decisive action that turned the war.

I don’t believe the Argies could just sit it out, they couldn’t be resupplied because of our naval presence and our land forces couldn’t afford a stalemate, so there was only going to be one conclusion, in my mind.

    Cheers.

Just like we didnt get involved in the Viet Nam War , even though the yanks asked us to. We didn’t ask the yanks to get involved in the Falklands.

As soon as Thatcher ordered HMS Conqueror into action, that was game, set and match, we didn’t need any help.

New Zealand is also a member of “The Five Eyes” treaty, along with the UK, the US , Canada and Australia. Three of which are NATO members, two aren’t, but I’ve no doubt the would all act in the defence of each other.

lol so if russia attacked new zealand nato would get involved a nato member under attack could they invoke article 5

New Zealand isn’t a member of NATO .

NATO members would probably get involved but not under the auspices of the NATO treaty.

Just do some basic research , it’s all there on Google ! LOL !

    Actually, that’s a point I’d never considered mate….fair one.

In fact as I remember they were sinking our ships and burning our men with French Aircraft and missiles and the United States didn’t want to really get involved because obviously Argentina is in their continent.

The simple answer is that the NATO treaty is only applicable in the northern hemisphere, north of the Tropic of Cancer.

The UK couldn’t invoke Article Five as it didn’t apply .

Also , we didn’t need any help.

The Argentinians had French Exocet missile before the war and the “fact” that France kept supplying them during the war had been debunked.

America offered us the use of one of their aircraft carriers in the event of our Through Deck Cruiser, HMS Invincible, being sunk.

    Cheers.
