If you are a dog man you know when they are very young. Always go with what your gut tells you. Its never wrong.

I breed a litter last year half cross to half cross so makes them 2nd gen and keep 2 dog pups back at 8 weeks old you could not tell them apart from one was dark brindle and one light brindle and now at 5 month two different dogs one very heavy and one racy and rest of the litter witch all went to close friends have all gone different from heavy to racy so what ive seen with 2nd gen is its a guessing game
Not a guessing game but selection, selection is what nature does naturally and we have to learn to do by eye. Its what lies behind all good live stock breeding..
Very true. One thing to always keep in mind though is that species evolve naturally at a very slow pace. We as breeders of dogs can make it or break in one breeding. The good thing though is that we can also "fix" it in a rather short period of time if we at least try to.

what breeding plans do you guys have now or in the next 5 years or sow some pics of your dogs you are thinking of breeding would be good
I used to beat myself up over all this now I'm pretty much leaning towards brother sister matings if I get two that I like. I just did it last year and I am very pleased with the results.
hi dan i did that about 8 years ago with very good resalts.did you have any monged pups all mine were fine one was a bit small all others very evan
No I didn't have any pups with any sort of problems. I don't think you really will unless its just there. I have seen completely unrelated dogs throw pups with issues. I know of a story of a guy breeding brother to sister something like 4 or 5 generations in a row with zero problems.

My pals half n half is good on rabbits in short or big land and seen it do it on the hills as well but maybe a one of
line bred saluki lurcher would be your best bet, entered right wil do most task with good feet and plenty of wind
Some half x sal greys are flying machines
I don't know anything about Salukis but if a Saluki Greyhound couldn't catch rabbits for fun then I would be shocked.

Ya so I screwed up. HAHAHA!

Well good luck. I think you will find somebody that does what you do.
-
Well she sure is a pretty lil thing. Good job.

You need to find a guy that is breeding 2 lurchers that are around 21 inches tall and that do what you want to do. Surely you can find somebody within an hour or 2 drive that has what you are lookin for.

I'd like to see an actual racing whippet bred to a greyhound and watch somebody run them on critters. I don't wanna see them shit whippets bred to some shit eatin show grey neither. I wanna see the real deal bred to each other.

I've never given a moments thought as to what or where I run my dogs. I just let them do their thing. If they get themselves kilt I don't want the mother fuckers no how.

I've ran plenty of things through the woods with fast dogs. Get em out walkin when they are young and you will see a dog that can literally run full tilt through the timber ground just like what they are chasing.

I guess what I'm sayin is don't get lost in the language. Growing up every slick haired fast dog was a greyhound. Every one with hair was a deerhound. I never heard of a staghound til the internet. My dad was clueless as to what I was talkin about. When I finally showed him he just laughed and knew what they were but had never ever heard staghound before.

The thing is that the blood is different. I wouldn't own a dog with that kinda blood in it either unless its from WAY WAY back like bout 50 to 100 years ago.

The coyotes just get tossed like Doc said.
I have no idea whats in the makeup of these dogs nor do I care to be quite honest.
