  1. Interesting thread, hope the dog gets a good pet home, be better off than where it’s came from by the sounds of it. If you can’t be arsed to pay kennels fees to get your dog back you might as well sell up and find another hobby because I’d bet my life you’ll never have a decent dog.
  2. Best post on this thread, if you think what you’ve got on your feet is more important than what you’ve got on the lead you’re the wrong type of person to get a pup from. Its the lads that don’t worry about appearance, permission etc that’ll usually have the best stuff. Type that will go anywhere & run anything they want, that’s how you get tested dogs
  3. Last thing you want to do is get taken in by a bullshitter and spend 18 months rearing rubbish. If someone brags about the huge numbers of gear their dogs kill, how they barely ever miss, make it look easy etc, best swerve those ones. Look for a litter of bright eyed pups thats been well reared, healthy looking mother, clean kennels etc. Those things are more important than what cross the dog is.
  4. Got its place like everything else, some dogs when you let them off the lead will run and run till their tongues hanging out, but some are quite happy just to plod about beside you, if yours is the latter then you’re better off trotting it for a month or so pre season to build a bit of base fitness. If I’m free running them I’ll take them down the beach or somewhere open, had a few dogs pick up injuries just before the season by free running in fields, barbed wire, holes in ground etc. Tried the hydropools as well think they’re good for bringing a dog back from injury but virtually u
  5. Im exact same with mine, only bitches my dogs will ever go over are ones owned by good mates that I run with. I’d take a pup if I wanted one and others would be gifted to good lads no money changing hands at all.

  10. Been stung by it myself in the past had pups off dogs meant to tested to the max, then when they reach 2 year old and you start grafting them hard they buckle. Come to realise people have different ideas of what a good tested dog is. You’re right what you say they love the praise from the audience on these sites that’s what matters to them
  11. Think thats the trouble with most they don’t do enough research, they see a few pics, hear a couple of people say it’s a good dog & thats their mind made up. Not huge number of people properly testing anything these days
  12. Loads of good dogs be ruined like that, but then again if a dogs half hearted to begin with it’ll never be any good no matter who owns it
  13. Just 1 young dog at the moment, see what next season holds for him
  14. I’d agree with you in a lot of cases dogs will be jacked by bad owners, but some are just born half hearted, best dog man in the world can’t make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. Fair play if lads want to keep dogs once they’ve jacked that’s totally up to them but problems start when they tell lies about its capabilities, or breed off it.
  15. Hope he makes a good one for you, can tell he’s well looked after, nice to see
  16. No excuse for leaving dogs on the land it’s a proper c**ts trick, but worth remembering not every dog that jacks is injured, some of them just decide they’ve had enough & in that case the right thing to do is pet home them, not make excuses for them
  17. Lost one of mine for 10 hours in the cairngorms a good few years back, was very lucky to pick him up with the lamp at night, drove round a corner up a track and he was running down towards the car, about 3 miles from where I last saw him. If he had a tracker on I would’ve had him back straight away, it’s a no brainer.
  18. Worth their weight in gold the trackers, wouldn’t run a dog without one now
  19. How old is he? Could just be going through a testing stage they all do. I’ve known people to use those collars and getting good results but me personally when they start that I just sit down give them a whistle and wait for them to come back in, they usually grow out of the ignorant phase, not an expert training technique by any means but seems to work
  20. Some nice looking dogs, no better place to spend a day either
  21. Lovely looking pup best of luck with her, nice to see someone putting effort in to their dogs, keep it up and hopefully she’ll pay you back 10 times over
  22. Dog games full of peddlers, money should never come in to it with working dogs that’s why there’s so much shit about today
  23. Good idea, exciting to watch, perfect base to start a line from if it works out, can go any way you want with it depending what quarry you’re enjoying most at the time. Don’t listen to people that say no good, injury prone etc, most of them won’t even have seen a pure greyhound run never mind owned one.
  24. Think it all comes down to standards, if you keep them high & do a lot with dogs you’ll have your fair share of failures, my last 3 on the bounce have fallen short, 2 of them were poor runners, 1 of them was a good runner & caught plenty but didn’t have the heart for regular work, threw the towel in. I’ve got a young dog now that looks promising and a pup on the way in summer so see how that plays out. Important to remember these men that kill 90% of what they run, and never have a bad dog, are full of shit. I bet a lot of lads have got rid of decent dogs because they’re trying to keep
