The trammel is going to hold well but I could not get a rabbit out of that on a black night, definitely not in a rush.

As for bouncing on a quickest or trad net a 4z is a good start, as tommo  said you want to trot the rabbit in to tangle but mesh size is also important. I would no longer entertain a 4 inch mesh. Others will and do and that is their choice but I like 4.25.

if the head goes through the mesh it wont be bouncing as often. I find they try to push on..

I'm not sure on the mesh size come to think of it, I know it's a 6z gauge though and 100% bagging but we dont get massive numbers in ours. Definitely going to try night time netting though sounds a fun way of hunting!

Experts  who have been in the Game 10 minutes or so will not know that also they will not know that a Trammel net can cope with Rabbits moving at speed

Experts who have been in the Game  Ten minutes or so will not Know that !  what they also don't know is that a Trammel can eliminate Bounce , I suppose it may sink in after year or two .

I think your remembering your days out with rose tinted specs.....rabbits being bolted by ferrets in to stop or long nets bounce on a regular ocurance .....

its the fact the rabbit is running full tilt that causes the bounce......night time longnettng your trying to get the rabbits to trot or walk in to the net....rather than run full tilt....rabbits the trot in to a net a far more likely to tangle....

I can assure you my glasses are not rose tinted they are generally very clear ?, I understand your point but like I said it dosnt seem to be a problem we experience in either my pals commercial quick sets or my traditional long net.

As I said though we dont get alot of rabbits in the long nets most are caught with the dogs or the purse nets, the long nets are there for a last line so you lads who catch loads of rabbits in the nets are more likely to have bouncers just because of the numbers alone.

its a long learning curve Rob , be prepared for all sorts to go wrong at first but bare with it. And be prepared to think outa the box ??

It certainly looks a skill mate, I best get better at setting the net in the day first mind me pal still laughs his chins off when I'm struggling hahah

If you find it rare to see Rabbits bounce off a long net you need to make a film to show how it is done because to me and many others it is a regular occurrence .

Hahaha maby I've just got good nets ?.

TBF most our rabbits are caught with dogs or purse nets, as I said above I've never been long netting at night, we use ours when ferreting so you been a hardcore longnetter probably have a much larger number to compare off, but it is very rare we have a rabbit bounce off our long nets like I said

  6. Trammel nets just look a carry on, I've never used one mind but I thought the whole point in them was to help stop rabbits that bounce out the nets? Honestly it's very rare we have rabbits bounce of of our traditional long nets or quick set nets so I couldn't see the benefit of having them for the extra carry on.

For me they are a ferreting tool and not something I would not want to use at night. I can see many some do with age against them of getting out with the kids, But I find more joy in a traditional net.

I've never actually hunted with just long nets at night, we use them when ferreting and my pal uses quick sets

Get an old jacket and remove the buttons and anything else than could snag on your net. Use the arm or leg out of an old bit of clothing to make a quiver to hold your pegs, use the rest of the garment to make a pouch to store your net and sew it into your jacket. Job done.

I was just looking at a purse net harness and thought that might suit a couple of long nets without me having to butcher me nice jacket haha

Only bag I use is like a wee pouch that goes inside the side pocket of me ole army trucksack, it’s a bit like a thin water proof pillow case, I take me net out of it before I start using it put it back in when I either get to motor or have finished for the night, but once I’m home I take it back out, hang the net up by the pins on a couple of hooks at the shed door am every time I walk past I just spend minute pulling out dry leaves or what not, but no bags involved in dropping or the lifting of the net, have a play about with an old coat, try an sow summat inside to hold you poles do you only need to get the one your using at a time, Iv got w mate who wears em on his back an another mate who straps em to his leg, it’s all about what works, we all different, jist ffs don’t walk back putting poles in, they go in al your dropping net? practice makes perfect pal, or as close as damn it?

Haha no I set the net as I walk it out, I currently store it in the burgean till I'm at the set but it's a right ball ache lol.

I like the pocket idea mind

Do you drive an have a motor? Will prob be easier to get somebody to take you out an show you the ins an out of nets rather then explain it on here?

Poles dont stay attached to a trad net, so you store them seperate, some folk use s quiver like Robin Hood used got arrows, some use w deep pocket in a big coat,

traditional nets come on end pins instead of a basket, so you store it on them, sorry if ye already know any of that, like I said it be quicker easier an better for you to watch an try it yaself

Thanks for the advice mate, I wasnt sure if you meant drive stuff into a net lol but I do drive a motor.

I've got a traditional long net about 25yrds, it was gifted to me for a little job. Before that I used a quick set, I've been using the traditional net with hazel poles afew years but I'm very amature I just cut the poles the way the keeper told me to and set it how he said to but it's a right carry on running it out and me hinting pal laughs his head off as I fumble about haha but I like it.

But carring it in my bag and farting about holding the net hanked on the end pin and the poles in one hand is harder than I can manage lol
