  1. I am possibly looking for a stud this way bred to put over one of my mongrel bushers. The bitch is whippet x Russell x springer x pat. She's my wife's dog and mostly used for beating and bit of bushing, we don't want to add any more terrier or full spaniel so thinking a spaniel x is the way and they are now only a quarter whippet so a bit more of that would be good.

Has anyone got or know or anything suitable, ideally in the South East?

  4. My old man has one, i absolutely hate it. It's protective as f**k of him and my little brother, ridiculously fawning and submissive to me and my sister and randomly bites anyone else if not watched like a hawk. To be fair to the dog it's my dad's fault, it needs work and time put into it and hes too old and busy. I tried to get it rehomed by C Green a while back but dad backed out at the last minute so I washed my hands of the thing. It's an accident waiting to happen in my opinion.

I would never, ever have one.

That's the problem with this site, most interesting topics get dragged to a standstill from the comedians and the bitter

100% agree. The vast majority of topics are dragged down by bickering, usually the same idiots everytime. If not that then the same dull "in" jokes topic after topic. Shame really, used to be some interesting stuff on here.

More on topic, I have a mate with a working kelpie who maybe looking for a lurcher stud at some point in the future. The thing is pretty full on, works sheep and cattle, does a bit of ratting and gun dog work. It's a nice light one but personally I can't stand the barking .... it never shuts up. He doesn't mind it though, it's part of the stock work I guess.

  6. I could be interested, Mrs is preggers so I dont think we'll be going overseas this summer. I'd be happy to pay for a couple of nights in the huts and trade him some fallow stalking for  a bit of fishing?

  7. I kept a few hundred hens up until recently. The combination of feed going up and forced lock down every winter made it not worthwhile in the end. Shame really as I used to enjoy it

  8. My missus has always has a few ewes round the yard and loves the whole lambing thing. The odd one dies of f**k knows what but they reproduce quick enough to keep up and put lamb in the freezer. I had 10 on my place last year and they were a doddle, just kept them over the summer and killed them in the late autumn. Zero maintenance. Only thing I'd do different is bucket train them. Mine were totally feral and impossible to catch, had to resort to the .22 in the end. I currently have a mate grazing eighty ewes plus lambs on mine and its even better, he does the checking, they do the mowing and I still get some meat for the freezer at the end

Fair play to him mate for killing the lioness..like you say tough people..

Was you on a safari holiday tyla..

Long story but the jist of it is I used to live in zanzibar and employed a masaii as a security guard, we became mates and I went to visit his family in the bush on the mainland. Quite the adventure it turned out to be

There's some size on that hyena..its good to see a size comparison against a man..when you see male lions tackling them they look a lot smaller than the lion. The lions must look huge against man..

And to think the maasai community use to encourage solo lion hunting..to become a maasai warrior..I wouldn't fancy tackling a lion with a spear myself lol..

Met a masaii out in Tanzania who had been mauled by a lioness while he tried to protect his cattle. She bit his foot off but he stabbed her to death with his simi while she did it. He then crawled to the road and got a bus to hospital. He was still herding cattle when i met him. He was the only masaii i met wearing trainers so he could hide his prosthetic foot. Tough people

I would say that a bloke hunting edible game or protecting livestock has a pretty easy job of explaining the death of an animal if someone asked him “why?”

What’s the bloke pulling the trigger on a tiger or an elephant going to say?, honestly ?

What would that man say if you asked “why?”

You cant say “it’s to provide money to protect species”…..if your that bothered, send them a cheque and have done with it……so the question remains “why?”

Because you want to could be another answer…..but the question remains “why?”

The answer is: Just so you could say you did and it made you feel good !

That to me is no justification for killing creatures so wonderful.

I've hunted in places where I wasn't going to get to eat the meat and had nothing to protect. For me it is all about the adventure. Even if you don't get what you are after the fact you are hunting rather than just wandering about totally changes the experience, for me anyway.

I'm just curious, seriously, how many of you have went after animal that could kill you?

Been treed by a wounded buffalo shot by a client and stalked by a lion at night. Both were pretty sketchy but I wasn't actually hunting. Closest I've come to is hunting dangerous game myself is probably pigs in nz. Don't think they kill people but can mess you up if you aren't paying attention. I never caught any big enough to be a danger though

  13. I've spent a bit of time in Africa and even a very little while working on a hunting concession in Mozambique. On an practical level I am very pro big game hunting, the best managed preserves I ever visited there were private hunting concessions paid for with trophy dollars. They held far more wildlife than any of the parks at that time at least and we're far more efficient at anti poaching. As far as making wildlife pay and therefore survive in Africa trophy hunting is vital.

On a personal level I wouldnt want to hunt the big predators myself.

As far as trophy hunters go the few I met were a mixed bag, some really decent sorts and some utter dicks.

They most impressive people I saw out there were the native trackers. A skill that has to be seen to be believed. It was very obvious that without the money from their job tracking for the safari firms they would be out poaching the same place to death.
