  1. Suppressor accuracy

    I’ve started have a few issues with the accuracy of my .22lr. 
    It has been a very accurate rifle, but out on the rabbits a couple of weeks ago and missed a few. 
    I’m not claiming to never miss but at 50-60 yards off a solid base shouldn’t be a problem.
     I’ve been to the range and every 3rd-4th shot was a flyer. The only thing that helped was removing the suppressor. 
    the suppressor is clean regularly. 
    Any thoughts??

    Thanks for your reply’s, it is strange. The mod was throughly cleaned with the same results. What’s baffling me is that with the mod off, the rifle, scope and ammo shoot really well, 5 shots under a pound coin. I would leave it off but it’s not great for rabbit shooting. 
    I may try swapping mod with a friend and see what happens.

    Just after some ideas/thoughts on an issue I’m having, haven’t shot my .22lr rifle in a while due to the bolt going away to have a spring replaced and work commitments. I’ve picked up some pest control on an estate, mainly rabbits with rats, pigeon etc. Thought best to check zero before going out first 4 shots bang on after that low and left, cleaned the barrel with a snake, the next four shots good then low and left again, tried the snake through the moderator again the same results. Removed the mod and all shot bang on cleaned the mod reattach same problem. I’m using same ammo as before nothing’s changed.

    any thoughts??

    Yeah, the cartridges aren’t cheep but he gets tired after 25 so shouldn’t be to bad for the moment ??

    I have found that top leaver is quite stiff and clunky, hopefully it’ll loosen up over time.

    It the boys birthday tomorrow and I’ve picked him up a new 28g kofs youth stock with 26in barrels. Other than some real nasty nails, seconded hand o/u youth stock 28g weren’t much less than a new one after having to either drive to collect or have it transferred. I also want it to be something he would take pride in owning. 

    I also picked my self up a small present

    My parents have returned from their holiday, so the feeder has come down. Not that they like having the tree rats eat the fruit, but my mums a bit squeamish ? 

    three mornings landed six squirrels and a skanky magpie that looked like it had been fighting the local cats, rather than leave it limping around with a busted wing, I put it out. 

    Now, I know that after a head shot nerves keep firing, the last squirrel I hit with a shot between eye and ear was still “breathing“, never wanting anything to suffer and at the time not knowing that it was a good head shot, I gave a follow up head shot, still breathing! Three head shots before it stopped! 

    The last two and the magpie, feeder will go back up at home now.

    Controlling the squirrels is slightly easier than bugs, I lost all my greengages last year to insects!

    The squirrels have started on my parents plum tree, so armed with my AirArms s410 and a tin of diabolo field, I’ve started on the squirrels. 

     The feeder was only up for a few hours and had a couple of customers.

  22. .22lr ammo testing

    Now I’m lost, the last 100 rounds of the SK have been a bit random, a few flyers. Missed a squirrel last night, twice ? from the same place as always so I have the range nailed. Thought it may be my scope was I need of a zero, I have a target that’s permanently up, had a couple of shots snd from my aim point one was an inch high and left the second was an inch low and right. This has no put me off the sk’s, I need to be able just to pick up my rifle and and have confidence in it. So my question is, do I give the barrel a clean with a pull through or look at changing amo? I’ve put  roughly 1000 rounds through it.

    Although I have committed to the sk’s, only having sub 1000 rounds with no more that I can find, I’ve gone back to look at the eley hp subs that grouped better, but suffered more with flyers. 

    I still had a few leftover, and picking through them, a few bullets felt loose in the brass. Would this account for the flyers?
