  1. Get a 243 and have done with it. It's going to have enough poke to do the job and if you get a crack at deer your tooled up. And don't have to make yourself look a dick by going and asking some feo what to wear. They havent got a bloody clue, well most of them are only second hand plods. The total nonsense that some of them have come out with on their visits over the years has been unbelievable. I remember when I first applied for my 223 the clod asked me if it was one of those hornet things. I don't know if he would have been any better at selling Wellington boots or custard tarts. If y
  2. Presumably the ground that you describe is open without a great deal of cover. If this is the case you will need something with a bit of poke to get out there. So 223 .... 22-250 or 243. I'd probably go 243. Better to have enough than not enough. All this writing about asking the firearms dept about what you should ask for is silly. If you don't know what you need then are you suitable to be out there. How would they know what would be best and their mission is to reduce the public ownership of guns not encourage. That's like going to a restaurant and asking what you should eat. If you do

    Brexit

She can't do that until the end of march due date. Until then she is going to have to keep kicking Brexit around in the long grass to waste time. As the due date gets nearer all of the remainers will try every trick in the book to stop her. I would have thought that internal pressure would be put on conservative remainders such as , toe the line and stop voting against the line or your out on your ear hole. Deselected !!. P45. Up the road. Then bribe others and find any dirt on them that might help them find the true path. Poor old Tusk looked well down and totally pissed off yesterda
  4. I don't know if what I meant has come across. I don't mean that you ask for £5 per crow and for him to buy you cartridges as well. If you buy £50 of cartridges he doesn't get anything out of it, but if he buys £50 worth of cartridges (10 x £5 per crow ) he can run the ticket through with the. farm accounts and claim the amount back as tax / VAT. Everyone except the crows and the taxman gain. It's not being cheeky, its being tax efficient. He doesn't actually have to go and collect or chose what you get, all he needs is the receipt for the cartridges. The one problem is that you got to sort
  5. Yes ... section 141 if you please ! That accounts for most of all the Rambos on this site. Not nanny state. Those laws were brought in for good reason. Some years ago I had a lad trainee who was sent our company from colledge for work experience. He hadn't been with us for a week when he asked if he could have some off cut metal pieces. I asked what he wanted and what he was going to make with it ? He replied "STARS ". "Stars" says I, "why do you want to make stars", SAYS I. He replied that he was going to Chuck them at people waiting at level crossing from the train on his way home !!
  6. So many questions, have you studied interrogation techniques in the past? It's just exercising the grey cells. ..... got to ask questions to ascertain why something did or didnt work and then one can modify actions to get a different result. I love to interrogate feos about department procedures and decisions. They generally don't know the answers and have to take advice which is scrutinised and then returned for clarification. Especially when certs arrive with glaring errors. Like no ammo allocation and ghost moderators and no expanding missiles, ( hollow/soft
  7. A STAFFY ? ??? ITS A WOMANS DOG SHE WANTS. Not a pitbull. If your Mrs has said that she wants a dog, then she must have something in mind. SO why hasn't she said "go and get me a >> XYZ" ? does she really mean it ? Also why hasn't she gone and found what she wants. Would you say to your Mrs " I want another dog and then expect her to go our and randomly find a dog suitable to you and your wants ?

    Liam Neeson

He's an actor with something to sell. If he meant to go and harvest a target years ago he would have done it. If he didn't do it, then why mention it now ? Their all as bad as one another. Publicity whores.
  9. Called it a day about 13:30 and had a drive round the farm and managed to shoot a crow ( that’s just earned me a fiver) How does shooting a crow earn you a fiver ? How do you manage to shoot anything out of that hide ? It's completely closed in. Why did you think that it was worth setting up there ? No birds feeding, no crop showing through, freezing cold. And the field is big, so you can see that if any were coming in to another part of the field. Nothing ! I can remember setting up on a field of new sown beans that had been blue the day before. I got there and nothin
  10. It's not just the quality of the kit, it is the ability and knowledge of the bloke steering it. Or a complete fluke shot ?
  11. ??? those conclusions can't be right.??? ... Some bloke who USED to have something to do with basic SAYS. that it is commonly known that a soft lead bullet Will deform on contact is FAR MORE LIKELY TO DEFLECTthan a hard Jacketed bullet. .... well, what do I know ? But goodness knows how many thousands of 22lr I have shot on all sorts of ground and I have yet to have any PROBLEM with Mr Rick O'shea. The conclusions that yòu have stated are BACKED BY PRACTICAL TEST IN FIELD CONDITIONS, rather than reporting random ideas . this is how some of the stupid regulations that we suffer from h
  12. And some very silly people say they love it and want it to hang around. I have no idea about what thoughts are travelling round in their head, but they don't need any of mine. A Honda, what's the cable in the front for? battery charge or engine heater? 110 v ? Do you use any sort of wheel chains/ grips/socks/ studded tyres to help get the car around in the snow? Do you use a motor driven snow blower ? looks like tracked wheels in snow and the clean straight cut off line on the drift. It's our bin day tomorrow. I remember a funny question about snow on another American shooting foru
  13. you wicked devil you ?. It's all for sport and entertainment. God knows what would happen if a more powerful round was used. Perhaps we could have sport and entertainment with that idea also. Still roll on until the hordes of rabbits re emerge in the spring. The 22lr will sing its tune again. Not that i've heard it more than a couple of times over about 40 years.
  14. Ps. make sure that Alsone is issued a copy of the results in triplicate so that he can file it in alphabetical order.
  15. And from this experiment we find that ? Come on tell us so that Deker and Alsone can quit bickering A. .... We can all sleep soundly in our beds knowing that the risk of richochet has been significantly overstated by Alsone and those who live in a 5 mile radius can stand easy and don't have to issue the tin hat that grandma wore in the war. Or B. ..... the risk of uncontrolled richochet is so great that ALL of the local population must be evacuated 24 hrs before and AFTER..... a 22lr is used and that form pr1..ck must be filled in three weeks before Intended use and that t
  16. What's he want a goldfinch for and where do you get one from. I thought that keeping birds in bird cages went out with the arc. My dad used to keep buddgies. I haven't seen anyone have a bird in a cage for donkeys years. When I was a kid most cafes used to have something like a minor bird that had been taught to swear or say things like " who's a pretty boy then" ? or " shut that door" ect.
  17. I think that there are plenty of birds down here but that they are very dispersed. Recently I've seen them on grass fields, in the orchard on the Apple crop that was just picked and chucked on the ground and lots in people's gardens feeding on the spillage from bird feeders. Sometimes I could pack shoot probably four feeding on the spilt wheat from our bird feeder. ( I would not do this in my front garden.). Yesterday we put up probably 20 pigeon with a few corvoìds and hundreds of starlings and fieldfares when we walked round the orchards. They are picking over the apples on the ground and
  18. As you previously stated and know ,... be careful of blowback off of the steel stuff. I've been hit fairly hard from splashback out of leaded butts at the 25yrd range. You could shoot 270 or 308 into that pile of residue. Mind it would be a massive job to find the bullets. I would be interested to have feedback from shots with and without the stone. Sometimes the bullets can be found when they go through something like plasterboard and then hit something like ply sheet as a second layer a few inches behind and even a tin sheet behind that
  19. To Dave Tyler. You have experience with the 17 hmr so you have suitable ground for the 22lr. As you know safety is your responsibility so you know where you can shoot. As I previously posted ( try an experiment...... From a standing position, Shoot at a paper target close to the ground, i.e. to replicate the height of a rabbit's head, crouched or seated, with a chunk of concrete slab on the ground close behind it. So as to replicate a stone from which the bullet can richochet and have a steel sheet like a corrugated roof sheet, set up vertically a couple of paces back from that and
  20. Father in law was a beige socks and jesus sandles in the summer, and cardigans. Dunno its a mind thing. There's a bloke down the road who is around 60 but he has looked like this since he was 15. Flat cap, baggy trousers and a fag hanging out of the corner of his mouth.? this blokes partner is a woman who has a face like a smacked rear. Allegedly she is a phone girly like on babestation. Blokes ring up and think that they are talking things with a right dolly bird and unbeknown to them they're talking to waynetta down the road! ?. It takes all sorts.
  21. Er, er, um, yes well I think........ yes it's an interesting idea, yes. I'm not a liability I am a shadow home Secretary, yes. I'm an asset. I'm here, um, yes. Bloody portillo just sits there making gay faces. We will find the money be restoring capital gians tax which will give us, er, er, umm,.... loada money. They zoom in on Portillo and he is wetting himself. You can see the cogs whirring . I dont want my kids going to the local school and mixing with a load of thick (sgow) fellows of foreign origin.!! I've got nothing further to add !! All Portill did was sit there and smirk. If he'd h
  22. The rain soon cleared the snow away this morning and it has been raining most of the day. The weather forecast shows that there is and will be more snow our west but In thìs south east corner it will fall as rain. I feel sorry for those people who sleep rough either thorough choice or circumstances. Unfortunately some are quite happy with their lot and don't want help. My spaniel is very happy to be inside laid out on the kitchen floor near the Rayburn. That is one switched on dog. I have known it to stop dead in the back door, look outside, see it is thrashing down, do a u-turn and come b
  23. But they all run scared in case they get claimed on the insurance because someone has fallen over. When I was a kid the school never closed for the weather. The snow that fell last night was like small icy flakes rather than balls of coton wool and it looked like it was not going to last. The temp outside was between 2 - 3 degrees and it wasn't long before the snow on the side of the car began to slump down and fall to the ground. This morning the roads are black and the snow is mainly confined to the grass and the roofs. Roll on global warming, bright sunshine and blue sky. Temp up neař 20c.
  24. Earlier I noticed on the camera's that white stuff was falling. We don't get to see much at all. In fact we've only had a couple of light frosts this year. At one point it was fair hammering down but it has eased right off now. Just looked out back door and there is about an Inch and a half.
  25. If their not available, I wish to volunteer to blow his head off captain manwaring !
