  1. There aren't any available.  same as powder, wads, shot  or anything.  I don't know where it is all going.  I was told that the Italians on the Fiocchi Facebook page are all up in arms because they can't get anything.  Production of everything must have all been changed over to military production headed out to Ukraine.

PS.  I've got all sorts of stock supplies.  I'm ready for the revolution brother.

PPS. AND NO. you're not having any. Sorry.

  2. I would have loved to have a 1.7 cf rifle ,,,, and I had a slot on my cert to get one but at the end of the day I couldn't justify getting one because I already had a 222 and a 223.  Along with a ton of other guns.  I just couldn't shoot that much.  The problem here in the UK is that basically you can have what you want ; IF; you can justify the reason for having it.  You cant just say "well I fancy having one"  You have to have a sensible ,valid reason.  Now,, pressure parts such as barrels are controlled items; SO you can't just order up a barrel and convert something.  Shooting is difficult here because of a load of reasons.  Small farms are getting less and less and unless you own a farm people just don't want random people out on their land shooting.  the general public don't want random people shooting on land anywhere near their homes and families.  IF I were to create a custom weapon it would never be on an automatic action.  It would be on a bolt action because there is no comparison accuracy wise in using an auto.  This again comes back to the difference between ( Generally) American and European shooting ideas.  American seems to be Boom & Splash whereas UK / European is Quiet/Accuracy.  It's like US made .22 rimfire target ammunition.  It is so powerful (HV)that it isn't accurate.  I bought a thousand supposedly STD velocity Remington target and they were so variable velocity that a ten shot group was about 4 inches whereas something like Eley club or match would produce ten shot one hole groups out of the same gun shooter combination. it's all in the gun /shooting culture.  (Generally) here in the UK NO ONE wanders around carrying a gun.  It isn't something that is done because NO ONE goes round shooting at others.  The control of guns makes sure that Nutters don't get hold of guns and ammunition.

I was trying to do research before committing, hence asking on thl, the font of all knowledge.

I genuinely don't want to go to a Muslim country. I don't want to give them my money. I do see them as arrogant, the ones that aren't I believe are just snakes. I don't fancy it and it's not for me. I don't want to eat their ritually slaughtered meat or interact with them whenever possible.

Everything in the canaries being shut is what I was wondering about

It doesn't matter what country , there are good and there are bad.  There's just as many scum good for nothing people in the uk that would rob you blind as there are genuine people.  Take the Turkish. A  unlimited country but personally I would prefer to operate with the Turks than the Greeks.  I have found them are very honest and helpful.   Meat is meat and it eats the same.  What you have to do is to get your head around the fact that there is no benefit system and they have to take as much bounty out of the tourist as they can.  That dont mean that they are a load of kaniving thieving  fellows. The Most intimidating place that the Mrs and I have ever  been was a street market in St Louis in Mauritius.  It was all Asians and  like a market in darkest Calcuta.  I  told her to turn round and just keep walking.  I've only heard bad things about Tunisia. You haven't said how old your kids are.  It wouldn't be much of a holiday if there's nothing for them to do and they get miserable and you all end up scrapping on the deck.... remember that there will be one person to blame .... and that will be you...100%... I've seen that before.

  4. I've been to all of 5hose mentioned places. What people forget it that in the winter you have to go a long way down south to find heat.  Not only that but in a lot of these places the season is over and there is nothing going on for tourists to see or do.  As for not ever going to a Muslim country,  that is very short sighted. They are just people like anyone.  If they came here with that sort of attitude you would say what a load of arrogant people. If you go to THEIR COUNTRY with a sort of arrogant imperialistic attitude it doesn't represent this country.  It all depends on what you are going to a place for. Eg you wouldn't go to London if you wanted to laze on a beach. Customs in some countries are a lot different to here. Personally I found Sharm to be a  bit of a dump. The canaries are OK but fuertevntura was very windy and being on the beach was like being sandblasted red raw. Do research BEFORE you commit

  5. They're in my garden I tell you.  Every day I have wash the residue off of my car bonnet.  Sometimes there's 5 ..6 big splats on the bonnet  from where they sit on the power line above.  And along the front fence line in the lawn grass.  They come down on the front and back lawns pecking away at the clover or something.  The problem is that my house is surrounded by roads front and side and over looked by houses and road footpaths.  The house is in a situation where controlling the pigeons  by final solutions are not possible.  Without getting the locals up in a posse and even being reported for shooting or something.  Apart from dumping on the car and lawns they ain't  causing enough of a nuisance to get involved with the gen public.

  6. Again there are all of these rumours about lead free bullets but it like the clowns at basic making a random statement about that in five years time that there won't  be any lead OR plastic in the shooting field.!!??  So you have to ask yourself the question about .. on what basis did some bright spark make this statement  considering the ammunition companies have a counter statement on their web pages that totally refutes the idea.  That the supply of non toxic shot and suitable plastic components isn't  and won't be available anytime soon.  It's all there in black and white for all to read.  At present .22 lr target ammunition is 40grn soft lead.  if 21grn copper-polymer bullets were available for range use and they were CONSISTENTLY accurate would Eley or any manufacturer consider the cost of making them available would they consider the market worth it.?  I bet that the American  market would absorb as much lead 22 as anyone could ship over to them.  IF, Joe Biden looks like he will win the next election all of the Ralph's will clear every available round that they can get their hands on.  They always do.

  7. The Mrs had a spell of sea sickness out in the Aegean and A bloke from a neighbouring cabin gave her a sheet of 25mg Stugeron tablets.  They worked well.  I bought some over the counter from a chemists out in Crete when we docked in.

  8. what's with all of this conspiracy anti ... anything nonsense stuff.  unless you have dug a hole in the ground and live on worms,  someone knows who you are, where you are and what you are doing.  you are on here so you are known about.  you have to have an internet conection so your presence is recorded.  Now the sooner that you find out that you are just a grain of sand on the wind and of no consequence in the grand sceme of thing the better it will be for you.  The general alert is not an app.  your device is noted by being connected to the net in an area as are all devices.  if there is going to be something like flooding, wildfires in that area or some other calamity which may not be good in an area then EVERYONE in that area will receive an auto alert signal advising that the area could be in danger.  They don't give a monkeys about you or what you are doing.  The auto alert is just sent to every device in that area.  if a Lion has escaped from a zoo or somewhere wouldn't you like a warning rather than walking round a corner to come face to face with it.  still I suppose that it is a case of natural selection.

  9. After many trials of lots of different colours I  still come back to white.  The reason is that it illuminates the target better/more.  White light is more common at night than any other colour. House /buildings, town/street lights,  car/vehicles.  The trick is to use it sparingly. when you find a target  DON'T KEEP LOOKING AT IT.  SHUT THE LIGHT OFF ..... QUICK.  You know the lay of your land..... or you should do.  As soon as you know that your on you should be thinking of which way the wind is going and whether you can move reasonably quickly to a down wind position which will allow distance to close and you not get winded.  The next thing is to understand backgrounding, so that you have some cover behind you so that you don't get skylines like a moving silhouette.   A quick sweep with the light to check the target . Light off/ setup/ light flick on......l identify target / confirm and boom.  Then keep light on to track target if it has moved and another sweep to see if there are other targets.  Light off

Will do, shooting a video like I do for all my little pawnshop finds but it's been raining cats and dogs on and off the last few days in 30min intervals lol. That and my uncle decided to put a hay bale for the cows right in top of the hill I use as a back stop.  Might have to go to the public range but I really would prefer not to try and film around other people.

Will say though always find it interesting how much more range you guys over there will use a cartridge to. Most here think a .22lr is a 30yd and in deal and I have y'all telling me to test staring at 50yd and I've been having a lot of people tell me the hornet is a good 50yd cartridge but here you are telling me out to 200 ? then again after seeing what most people call a well sighted in scope around these parts it's probably best they stay at shorter ranges lol ?

This statement is a bit like the current gun situation here in the UK.  When I was a kid a gun was a tool. You started with a ratty 410 and worked up through second hand guns to something decent.  Nowadays people  wont even look at second hand and guns are bought more as status symbols and many come on the market in as not used or only a hand full of shots put through them.  As for range consider the fact that the humble 22lr rimfire has killed people at ranges as far as 1 mile.  I think that the most range is obtained at about 45 degrees.  The 22lr is shot competitively at 25, 50 and 100 meters.  The bullet drops rapidly from being on at 50 down about 9 inches at 100.  I regularly shoot rabbits at about 70 paces.  I'm not a long range pot lucky shooter and try to reduce the range as much as possible.  BUT. I've never come acros a variable power scope that is accurate .excepting for expensive ones like Schmidt and Bender or Zeiss etc.  I use a Leupold fixed 6x40 on my 223 but it might be better with an good quality 8 x power.  High money.  There's  no point in going with anything higher magnification because it is difficult to hold steady. To zero at longer ranges I use a roll of plain white lining wallpaper fitted by thumb tacks to a wood batten frame.  Just a black felt tip pen cross with a centre winch solid circle.  I start at - 0 paces freestanding and see where the shots are going then adjust and go out further.  On 223 I  zero at 100.  The 22lr I zero at 50.

  11. I've  never had a 22 hornet but I know a couple who have a like them for the handyness and cheapness of reloading for the round.  Yep, I like the look of that setup,,,, but without that bloated scope on top of it.  A simple 6x40 fixed  power like a leupold would fit the situation nicely. Are you planning on shooting fleas off of the back of a dog in the next county with a scope that size, Wolfie. ?☺☺.

  12. This may be down to the scppe mounts being knocked off line.  It doesn't need much to do this.  A couple of mill at the mount could be feet out at - 30 yds.  I would CAREFULLY re center the turrets by gently winding them in each direction to find the central position so that you have equal adjustment both ways.  Put the scope and mounts back on the gun.  Put the gun on a solid mount / table / workmate or something and bore sight onto a large target board.   Shoot a 3 round group.  IF the group is not where the cross hairs are then move /adjust /pack the bases to move the scope onto target.  Then when somewhere near on target use the turrets to fine adjust on to zero.  Sounds complicated but isn't.  IF the zero keeps shifting then either the guts of the scope have a problem or the mounts aren't tight.  Have fun.  Ps.  You pack the opposite way to the fall of shot.

  13. Sadam Hussain was taken to court for interfering with lambs.  The judge asked Saddam how he pleaded.   Sadamm replied that he pleaded  ot guilty because they were..... Is-lambs so hw could do as he pleased. ??

Father told me never to discuss politics or religion because you won't get an answer, it will just go round and round in circles and you'll just get involved in an argument.

  14. Years ago i bought a pack of plastic coloured filters to experiment with.  Like you I  strted small.  There weren't any sort of it night vision available. I tried a headlight off of a Honda 50 and a ¥@$% !!!!! Lead acid motorbike battery.!!!  The beam was non existent.   I then went to a Hitachi torch powered by 4x rechargeable  D cells. this had a pencil beam.  I tried  all the colours... red, Orange, blue/mauve, GREEN  the red and Orange were by far the best.  The Blue and green were dim and a bit disorienting.   The secret is to only use the light sparingly.  White is the best because some animals are quite used to white light which doesn't harm them such a light from cars and houses, AND it is better to understand distance and the target.  If you keep the light on all of the time it won't be long before they associate any colour as DANGER.  This is why you get lamp shy foxes. Learn your distances.  Pace out known things like a gate post to a tree ect, etc.  AND the most important thing which is one shot one kill.  Don't create educated targets. Light on,  a very quick look round...... identify target, distance and ground.   Go dark and stand still and quietly for a minute or two.  Walk dark towards the target.... stop and wait for a while.... re.illuminate and move to firing distance.  Bearing in mind the wind and any background light that will show you as a silhouette. Only lamp  10% of the time that you are out.

Ps.  I note that you state that you have the torch taped to the scope. This is very restrictive and basically you are pointing a weapon at things you don't intend to shoot. This isn't good practice with a loaded weapon especially if you have a mate and he keeps pointing his loaded weapon at you.  Try to hold the torch/lamp in the hand that holds the fore end. It takes a bit of practise but it allows you to keep the muzzle pointed at the ground instead of all over the place and you can scan the field rapidly for targets and to switch the torch on and off quickly.  By holding it under the barrel line you don't get flair back from moisture in the air.  Everything is quicker, safer, better sight picture and just all over better.  Try it.

Pps.  Don't light the target up directly.  Keep the beam on the ground below the eyes.  They don't spook so much.

  15. The way that everyone is writing anyone would think that laws had been past outlawing lead bullets.   As an aside I shoot 22lr target at a rifle club and there is talk about not being able to shoot lead anymore at some stage in the future but in reality there is no information or alternative guidance coming from the nsra about this.  Perhaps someone like ELEY will come up with a non tox bullet like wood or mud or some other non tox substitute considering we only shoot holes through paper cards at 25 mtrs.

  16. Yep.  That about the right way to look at it. I think of the amount of days that I've sat out in a cold field supposedly pigeon shooting.  But the pigeons didn't  cooperate and I didn't get  any shooting.  The only difference being that it didn't  cost anything.  Imagine if someone charged for you to sit out in a cold field.
