Thanks Staffy I understand totally mate I've bought the half strength stuff now. I'm no fool mate and take a lot of care where I put it so nothing else can get at it. The full strength stuff certainly does the job better though. Thank for the advice and don't worry I do understand trapping and using poison.

    Cheers Arry

I wasn't having a dig at you mate who ever gave you the rodenticide would be in bother if it went wrong and it can potentially  wrong for every one at from time to time

I got gifted some Lodi Sapphire Rat paste with brodifacoum 0.004% which I found very good. Thought I would try and buy some myself but all I seem to able to buy is same name but lower strength at Brodifacoum 0.0025% nearly half strength. Have you got to have some kind of licence to buy full strength and can you buy in small amounts?

    Cheers Arry

You can only buy full strength if you have an appropriate certificate and would need to do a suppliers course . To be fair the Sapphire brodifacoum paste or any rodenticide over 30 ppm is professional only product so shouldn't have been even gifted really. Brodifacoum  is very strong and even the half strength public available  bait will easily kill rats . You might need to feed little more but it will easily do the job. Half strength can only be brought 300grams at a time. This is because numpties didn't read the labels scattered it all over the place and killed things they weren't supposed to .Top advice - READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW IT CAREFULLY- ITS THE LAW

  3. If the doors was kept shut and cleaned afterwards it might just pass but you can never ever rely on the customer doing what they are told and when the door was opened (which it certainly would be )and not shut ( again certainly would be ) you'd  be killing birds , squirrels , hedgehogs and god knows what else. Bait boxes would have reduced spillage of eaten bait by a load and made far safer , block bait would have been even better

  4. Ive been doing wasps nests commercially for five years . Ficam will be sorely missed as it didn't piss the wasps off and they didn't try to find alternate ways in out the nest to avoid the powder. Ive been using Vulcan which is a Pemethrin based one, not bad product but pisses wasps off and if your treating a hole around a tile etc you have to treat exit holes all round or wasps just dodge it!!. I think people who just throw up poles on a wasp duster  to treat roofs and soffits will struggle. I go in lofts when treating as you can quite often see nest and break a hole and dust with very few call backs. Really we should check lofts any way in case the house still has a water tank, bats are present or the hole in soffits /roof is going to let dust go all over customers belonging . I think Lodi are working on a alternative but wont be out for a while

  5. Arm Arms TX HC

Air arms .177 Hunter carbine very nice condition shoots spot on , This was my third gun and slimming down collection. It might have a very few minor blemishes although I cant see any. Its got no rust , shoots super accurate with AA pellets I bought with it . Easy hit knock downs or pests out to 40 meters .

Can post at buyers risk ( would only be insured for £100 pounds ) Its like new really just run in , selling as I need less guns but have a few bills !! Its probably eight months old . Probably the best most accurate springer out of the box you can buy . You can collect if you want to although on Isle of Wight if you want to try before you buy. These are going for about 620 pounds new With the scope etc probably abut 750 pounds new . So bit of bargain need gone ASAP includes postage can knock 20 pounds off if collected . Comes with Hawk POA 3-9x50 , mounts . As you can see from photo guns pretty immaculate

Heres what Airm Arms say about them

The TX200hc mk3 Hunter Carbine is AirArms best selling carbine springer. AirArms have fitted the mk3 with a softer spring and this makes the rifle easier to cock and control, but it still gives the same amount of power. The Mk3 is the darling of the tournament world and this is down to its high levels of accuracy and controllable nature. The rifle is naturally quiet as it has a built in moderator . The Hunter carbine has a shortened barrel and this makes it easier to manipulate in the field. The HC also has the ability to have a silencer fitted.

Need this gone to pay bills so price reflects that

I understand its a concern sending cash etc t unknown person. I can leave gun with my Local RFD who you can phone and confirm he has gun then when funds received my RFD can send on to yours

Thanks, I'm on to that, I've put some old slate tiles over runs under fence.

How big does a 'tunnel' need to be (legally)?

Depends on trap , usually a tiny bit bigger than trap. Make it too high rabbit will jump as trap springs and you wont get a clean kill/catch.  Fenn traps will jump a inch or so when they go off . Tunnel length the longer the safer for non targets , think of a larger animal or person trying to put hand or paw down tunnel and make it a bit longer so they cant reach trap. Use a couple of sticks or similar and restrict  entrance just wide enough for rabbit to enter but nothing bigger

  8. I found caught more rabbits going through fence lines or hedges, put a wire tunnel over run and let rabbits get used to going through them for a week or two. then set fenn. caught quite a few that way. Either that or use cage traps. If rabbits are a nuisance then pest control a must .If your just getting a few for the pot then decent air rifle and some time waiting for them to appear

  9. Get some cheap granola cereal , trail it through box over trap and put a bit behind trap , rats are super touchy about taking bait from bait cups on traps but will follow a trail and quite often step over trap (and get caught)  to get to bait behind , dont know why just happens

Yes, my initial thinking was that squirrels will succumb to my fenns quicker than the difenacoum w/w grain.

The situation is that there is evidence that both squirrels and rats are visiting this particular job, although due to the client having no concept of social distancing whatsoever - insisting on climbing in the loft with me despite my protests, then draping herself all over me trying to pick cobwebs off my hat after Id come down - an absolute fcuking nightmare of a woman - luckily me and my family has already had covid.

Anyway fenns and rodenticide it is - the sqizzers can take their pick and Im doubling my usual price.

If you know squirrels are likely to eat Difenacoum bait  then you shouldn't use it as it doesn't state you can use against squirrels. The fact rats may be present  also doesn't make it legal.  Id use fenns or body grips . The labels the law as the saying goes

  11. I started my business  at 48 years old . I did start it along side my old job for two years just to build it up a bit  and see what works out there  . Good way odf  starting and takes a way a lot of pressure. I would advise following

Get a basic rodenticide course and insect course under your belt - will allow you to buy professional products . Kilgerm and others do day courses.

Get decent insurance its not too expensive and if some thing goes wrong youll be glad you  didnt go cheap and cheerful.

As soon as you can get a RSPH2 course in pest control done .its an eye opener especially when it comes to rodenticide use and probably should be a must for any one using professional products. The one day Kilgerm insect course covers safe use of pesticides  and mixing chemicals  etc which is an minimum safety knowledge you should have  when spraying.. The basic courses really are only starter courses and dont perhaps give you all the knowledge  you require

Get a Google business listing done along with facebook page , local parish magazines, get out to local shops with notice boards and get plenty of business cards on those boards

Get a small engine diesel van or eco friendly petrol vehicle fuel will be one of your big out lays

When you start be prepared to do other bits like proofing , clearing rubbish after treatments  etc - once the work comes in you can probably just sign post customers to a good trades man if you dont have time / interest

Dont under price/undersell  yourself depending on area you need to make at least twenty five punds a hour so when pricing jobs  Hours + fuel+ materials+ tax = starting quote. Youll find some companies doing very cheap  wasps for example. When I started I charged 30 quid to compete  30 quid after taking off tax ,fuel and materials make you a  busy fool I now charge 60 get half as much work and make the same amount!!!

Depending on area youll find most work is trapping / rodenticides and spraying  shooting makes up 1 percent of my work if that so If pest control  appeals  for shooting etc it wont meet your expectations

    and good luck

Thats what I was wondering; are squirrels just as likely  to take a grain bait w/w difenacoum etc as they are the licensed warfarin formulation?

Yes  they will eat it, have to be very careful where i live when treating rats as we have red squirrels . If customer has seen them in garden for example i will uses traps in a tunnel as for some reason reds dont seem to go into tunnels unlike greys seem to. another safe place is under closed decking where only the rats seem to go ever

It's okay mate was looking for a design. Im sure I can knock one up. Ordered one of the Blacks Cats to Try.

    Cheers Arry

i found traps worked better outside of the safety cage,  so they are great for example in lofts, I know some times you have to use one for safety. I would may be knock up one in wood ive always had more luck with wood rather than wire , maybe the rats like the fact wood boxes are dark?  When you get your trap remeber the rat has to lift the trigger arm so use some thing quite hard as a bait  so rats cant nick it- Bertie basset sweet or a hard chew or chocolate sweet. Pop some oats and /or wheat in the little bait tray, rats get confident feeding at trap that way

  14. Bottom line bad cop gone to jail quite rightly for killing a man. I doubt that police man would have cared if his victim was white , Asian , black or martian.  Mean while thousand spread deadly disease in middle of pandemic undoing all the hard work and sacrifices people made to stop NHS being over whelmed. i suspect the protesters are the same ones who turn up at any demo  for a bit of fun/drama  , Brexit, anti Trump any thing that is trendy . protesters should be utterly ashamed of them selves , they will probably kill far more than US police ever could in a year by spreading corona , thats it really. All I would add is in any organisation you'll get bad apples  ( look at Doctor Shipman for example ) to label a whole profession then as racist and attack them is ridiculous ( unless thats actually what you enjoy doing ?)
