  1. Thanks folks, and hello DH again. It's a new Browning X bolt, and guess it's CIM, i'll need to change that. And yes it's 20" barrel. I used H414, as I've got 1 1/2 tubs of it & would liked to have used it? Understand the legislation, but the tubs could have lasted me for quite a bit! However, if N140 is a better bet for .308 I'll feed it into Quickload. If the N140 is better, or recommended, I guess I could use up the H414 with my .243, which is flying (thanks DH). Could I ask where N140 recommendation is from? Incidentally, the 180g bullet is for red deer. I'v
  2. I've recently moved from a .243 to a .308 Win, and intend reloading for this calibre. I've had great advice from here before for my .243 and would like to ask for the same for my .308. I'm using H414 powder, and 180g Sierra soft points, and the max load is 49g in the Lee reloading book. However, as you can see from the attached, screen grab of Quickload, the amount of powder burn is only 95%. 50g takes the pressure into the red, but there's not a great deal of increase in powder burn. Balistic efficiency is almost 30% though. Anyone got suggestions or recommendations please?
  3. I'm about to purchase a new rifle, and have been impressed with the write up & reviews of Lawrence sound moderators. Does anyone on here have one, or anyone have experience of them? I'd like to hear any feedback from personal use. Cheers
  4. Hi, I've been using the NM on a Photon for a couple of years, and the range possible with this combination is simply incredible. The NM is costly, but if you're looking for a clear picture then I'd highly recommend it. It's capability is way beyond what you'd shot at. Fox spotting at 600-700 Yds is well within this combinations capabilities.
  5. Hi folks, I'm considering selling my Tikka .243 with a T8 moderator fitted. Has anyone used HL for this before? Any advice would be greatly received. Ta
  6. Think so, tend to use fence posts & the like. But the Photon with the NM is so much better.
  7. Thanks SB. And yes, the mag is too high & wobbly. I just can find anything suitable, other than thermal, but at a few grand, it's cost prohibitive. Are you hunting on foot or with a truck? On foot mostly...

  9. Good for you, Ive heard the same said of cheap binoculars over the years, until those dismissing them for cheap alternatives try a quality unit in low light. I've also got cheap T torches, and yes they're ok, but the NM units simply blow them away for quality of image. I guess it's down to standards, expectations & affordability when out shooting. I take it you've actually used NM IR illuminator's? If not, you may get a nice shock.
  10. Cheers mate, mines is only couple of months old, so yes it won't be a screw on. Any other options?
  11. Zeiss Victory RF's here. Well built, superb in very low light, accurate (the RF), ergonomically nice, but pricey....
  12. Came across this post from last year, and interested in trying a doubler on my 6.5 Photon. Looks like doubler screws directly on? Anyone got a link for the doubler? Ta
  13. I'd already read your posts, I was going buy the SW-30 mount from Scot Country but they said it would not fit the Browning, what type of base is the SW-30 mount? my Browning has two weaver bases 20mm.Can you recommend a Picatinny rail for the Browning? Thanks Thanks These guys sell top quality rails for most rifles; http://www.tier-one.eu/scope-rails.html I'd then advise buying the one-piece Photon mount made by Yukon. It was £60 from Nightmaster UK. Both the rail & mount were around £100 together. Using this method, I can swap quickly between the Photon and my da
  14. I have picatinny rails on all my rifles and swap my Photon as and when required. By using good quality rings (e.g. Leupold QRW) I can achieve no change in POI from the time that I zeroed the rifle. Obviously you will have to keep a record of the X&Y coordinates for each rifle zero. Same, IMO it's the only way! ?
  15. Check out my posts below on Photon mounts I used for my Tikka M595. Only way to do it IMO ATB.
  16. Just be careful what you buy on flea bay, as the Chinese stuff isnt all its claimed to be. I was Stung on 18650's which when tested, were just about the same MAh as a Duracell AA. True about the battery drain, as Duracell AA's won't last a whole night at foxes. The 18650 battery from NM on the 800 lasts a few nights though. http://budgetlightforum.com/node/9274
  17. Nightmaster UK are selling the NM800 @ half price if you buy both from them. Cracking deal.
  18. Out foxing last night, but was difficult with mist coming off a river. Spent a bit of time watching some Red Deer and some really far out on the hill. Back up this morning and used the Zeiss Victorys to check distance - 280 yds & 665yds respectively. Question; is there a hand held monocular that can get the same level of clarity at these distances? Obviously illumination is critical, as I use an NM800 ON THE Photon. Anyone? ATB PS I have a Bushnell with T50. Works ok, but lacks detail and distance.
  19. I have a T50 and a new NM800 that's adjustable. The difference between the 2 units is dramatic. With the NM800 I can see out to silly distances on the the Photon. with it being adjustable, you can fine tune the illumination to avoid white outs. I won't use anything else now.
  20. Or do what I did: use a Picatinny rail with QR mounts, and switch between NV & day scope when it suits. I didn't fancy faffing about with bolt ons, especially creeping about woods & field at night.
  21. I know Ian, but as you rightly say, it invalidates the warranty, which Yukon & Jacks have confirmed. It's poor having to either shim or adjust the back plate, and spoils an otherwise great unit. I'm going to live with the low cross hairs for now, or until I've a new batch of rounds to set up, then i may stick in shims. Incidentally, I noticed in another post recommending 25 MOA shims. These would need to be fitted in reverse. That is -25 MOA, the high shim at the back, lowering the cross hairs.
  22. Having read so many stories on the Photon requiring shimmed, because it sometimes runs out of adjustment, I thought I'd have a go at working some calculations based on my own set-up, which has been adjusted to the POI, but there's only 7 "clicks" left on the elevation, and I dont like the cross hairs so low in the screen. Its clear to me, there's a generic fault with the Photon, as it looks very much like its been set up for long range shooting, and not the usual 100Yds we usually zero in at. I use a Picatinny rail, and Yukon's own one piece mount, therefore it should really be much closer
