  1. IIRC the 783 was a modular design and cheaply made with I believe quite a bit of plastic where steel should be .....going to have to check now.....

    Ummmm....not sure now.

It's based on the marlin x7.

My personal opinion of Remington is keep away from anything post 2000 unless you like fixing and tuning firearms. Same for marlin post 2000!

    Sorry.

You could be right there, I often catch her looking at me like she wants me to die and then when I turn to look at her she smiles, devious little bugger

Yep, that's the one. You gotta be quick to catch it mind.

The bouncing foot when they are sitting is another clue!

If I’m out on my own I always get the lecture from the missus to watch what I’m doing and anything could happen to me on my own, I tell her there’s nothing to worry about as I’m the most dangerous thing in them woods

if you see what sort of condition I’m in you wouldn’t think it possible for me to walk up hill for an hour ?

Women often say the opposite to what they really mean you know!

If I'm not mistaken the vent hole is where the powder from the pan ignites the powder in the barrel. I'm Normaly wrong though and will be corrected ?

    Your right mate.

Over time the flash hole or vent get bigger from flame erosion.

Bessy's was 3mm so I drilled a stainless M5 bolt with a 2mm hole. Drilled and tapped Bessy's vent M5 and screwed the new vent in place.

She was getting very powder greedy!

This is like a gastric band and now her appetite for powder has returned to normal measures .

It was worth doing as she is a willing girl! That big lock is still quite fast and she rarely misfires.

Nice one U. Glad your jiggery pokery with Bessy paid off, I wouldn't attempt it, everything I touch lately seems to go wrong ?

I've not been around too, got a young Doe mid January and been in Mexico since last week. Waiting for the rabbits to recover but judging by the state of affairs it might be a while yet.

    Mexico! Building a wall?

Young doe, what's her name?  (If that's ok).

  6. Been a bit low, you know, winter.

To many bouts of cold and flu.

    Anyway got a few.

Raised that one early morning after spotting some a activity the morning prior. 2oz of BB sorted it at 15 yds.

Took about 30+ pheasants this season which is good for me.

Had to recently add a vent liner to Bessy.

It's made a huge difference to her efficiency.IMG_20190218_190537.jpg.3343dff4435f0ff08dedca06f53c7639.jpgIMG_20190218_191128.jpg.d8158b4998e1f124e272384102642178.jpg

    So how you all doing?

So with 40gr HVs it would be miles out presumably? :hmm:

It actually states for 22 subsonic mate so a little yes.

It's kind of a compromise, any slight inclination from pararell to the bore and it will be different from one rifle to another!

In the past many a rifle has had to have its scope shimmed!

Only ever have I owned one rifle where upon a centered scope lined up perfectly with the bore, a tikka T3.

  8. Right feller's I took your advise and went to a local fun shop and bought a hawk vantage.

The glowing ret is way better for my dodgy eye, I don't have fight to see both anymore. Thanks for the suggestion.

I find I have to twiddle with the fast focus too for close range stuff these days also. My old weaver could not facilitate that!

The new scope has aiming points graduated for 22 LR but it seems to be just as useful for WMR.

    Thanks feller's ?

Have you shot bears with .308? Even if so, was it wise is a better question. Lets agree to disagree. There's always going to be a compromise with such a spread of species. 300wm would have been a good consideration as a compromise calibre if the deer were being shot at long range. .308 is not always the answer to everything. In the UK we tend to use a very limited range of set calibres and a lot of this is down to the comparatively few species we shoot compared to other continents.

Deker is right. The best answer for deer + boar + dangerous game is always going to be 2 rifles. Anything that's going to stop a bear dead in it's tracks is going to be too powerful for deer except at long range. Anything that kils deer without excessive meat damage close in is not going to guarantee a 1 shot kill against large dangerous game such as bear. Wild boar are cuddly kittens compared to bears. Take the time to read about a few bear attacks.

One thing the OP could consider, if not actually hunting bears but just seeking protection, is stick with a dedicated deer calibre rifle but carry a lack calibre handgun such as .44 magnum or 500 magnum, local laws permitting.

I'll take that as a no then.

I had a cage trap set in the back garden but the fox kept eating the bait through the bars rather than going in. I decided to hang bait on a string from the top of the cage to stop the fox doing that. The only bait I had was a rabbit my mate had shot earlier. It had something wrong with its spine so had a kind of hunch back and one of its eyes had popped out with the head shot. I hung the rabbit up and thought no more of it. Later I looked out of my bedroom window at the cage and there was this hunchback rabbit with a bulging eye swinging slowly back and forth in the moonlight.

I still have nightmares about it.
