After went and got a couple of rabbits but loaded with shot.

3/4oz of #7&1/2 shot works very well.

I’ve seen quite a lot of otters over the years and watched them hunting mice, rabbits and ducks as well as fish, they don’t have a great deal of power in there jaws, ive seen them on mull using stones to break open mussels, they don’t seem to be afraid or bother much about humans, that one in the picture looks like one of last years young, they do take a long time to grow to a good size,I remember being in Brian Nuttalls house and he had the head and tail of an otter mounted on the wall with the weight stamped on it 33 1/2 pounds,he also said a fully grown dog otter would be four feet long including the tail,Lurcher and some terriers can kill young ones single handed but not a fully grown adult ,however these bull crosses I’m sure could do it very easily that one in the picture doesn’t look like a dog has had hold of it ,wf

Interestingly there is a wood upstream that has a few pools, always has teal in them ....not lately! Ummmm

It doesnt matter but is this post in the wrong forum? Wouldn't it get a better viewing in general talk rather than rimfire, centre fire and shotguns. Yes it is a young otter. I wouldn't have thought that hounds would have nailed it because when they approached it would have just dived underwater. They don't exactly wander about out in the fields.

    Your right. Get it moved.

It was on a water course.

Fish and the river tern are near by..

  5. And I was late! Stupid phone!!

I wanted to wait for a fox but needed to be in place before light. It never showed up and the pheasants were quiet so I moved off and got in the car to head off for rabbit country.

That didn't go well as not many were showing so I moved off again!

This time I found some and got a brace. Two bucks one a has a bobbed tail.

On the way out I had a plink.

Shooting at 45 paces the two top holes are my old load.

I have not been two impressed with that load just of late so I increased the charge and bingo!

Three on the right side of the handle, I was aiming for the centre of the handle.

The last shot was after I drifted the front sight and was perfect. Not bad for no rifling!

I next loaded with shot and on an old feeder at 25 paces just threw the gun up to test for gun fit in shotgun mode......

Yes it’s the budget version but safety is same as 700 .The bolt can be opened when rifle on safe which is why it flicked open on my shoulder ,twice ,whilst stalking .Im wondering if anyone has come across this and what they did to rectify if anything .

You could look to see if the bolt handle has a ball detent that is not working....I don't know if one is used but take a look.
