If you feed raw you should remove the kibble. If you aren’t removing the kibble then the dog isn’t on a raw diet. To transition to raw just stop feeding the dog kibble, don’t transition to raw slowly as this is not suitable for the dog’s stomach as the pet food moves through the dog at a different pace to the raw food, so never mix it. It’s possible to avoid calcium supplement once the dog is eating bone once you know what you’re doing but before its eating bone it will likely be deficient in calcium.

You wouldn’t feed an athlete shit food and expect them to live a healthy life and perform. Treat the dog as an athlete. Pet food kills your dog over time, they live a much shorter life on average and suffer health problems. Those who mix kibble are doing so to save money.

If raw works for you and yours great👍 personally I think some dogs do better on meat and biscuits, don't know about saving money, I could feed raw meat for free but choose to buy Aldi mince, tins of fish and decent biscuits as well etc

I do it as it gets them into routine straight away and its more natural and better for the stomach. For the pup it doesn’t matter too much until they get to about 6 month when they develop their adult teeth so they can chew bone but I feed once per day from the day I get the pup as its more of a personal preference but either way you can’t go wrong mate.

When the pup is old enough to eat a chicken leg then its time to feed it once per day as you need to allow the dog time to digest their food. Give your dog a cod liver capsule and add a teaspoon of raw honey a couple of times a week too. Whilst the pup is less than 6 months you should smash up about a quarter to a third of one calcium tablet (calcium not calcium with D3 or anything else) and put it over their food as they won’t t be consuming enough calcium since they aren’t yet eating bone. The calcium is important at that age as they require enough to ensure their stools are hard. Not enough calcium the dog will have the runs, too much and it will be constipated. Once the pup is eating a chicken leg remove the calcium as they’ll be getting it from the bone.

Another important thing is never give your dog tap water make sure its river water or filtered to remove fluoride.

Thanks for the reply. I'll stick to lots of small meals and just a good varied diet, I don't go down the tablet route. Even give adults a breakfast.

I've got tap water down all the time no bother, that or running water I like the look of 👍

Providing the pup is left with the dam and other pups for at least 8 weeks, preferably as close to 12 as possible, and you feed your dogs separately and don’t let kids around them you shouldn’t go far wrong with the pup that you choose. Some pups, though its very rare, are just born without the desire to work, no matter what training methods are used. A dog that has the desire to work has potential providing the owner puts the time in everyday. Check the jaw and the eyes when choosing a pup.

I’d recommend feeding the pup a raw diet from day 1, don't give the pup kibble, feed it once per day and use chicken legs not wings. Feed it rabbit and take it for walks by itself sometimes and if it barks when chasing other dogs nip it in the bud gently. ATB

Why do you feed once a day? Always fed pups lots of small meals, cheers

Why do you think they turned gooduns, change of environment ? smaller kennels or gone in house perhaps could be any reason I suppose

Cant take anything for granted in this game even if you have the right well bred litter in front of you.

But first you got to get past all the schiesters along the way.

It's a funny old game for sure

Must of always been in them, better owner, better suited owner, keener owner?

think the fact you were all willing to accept the wild boar story with zero evidence and guidance from  the authorities and a nause Internet influencer shows that there is zero point in trying to hold any serious conversations on this topic in an open debate

Thought it was a blonde boar the first time I saw it, when it was still a "lion". Because it looks like a blonde boar and has a little swishy pig tail etc 👍

  6. Can't comment on gundog coats. The best all-round coats I've seen are "slape" collies, the rain/snow runs off, they don't gather crap/debris, aren't too heavy 🤷🏻‍♂️

Probably suffer in real cold though, everything has a thick double coat, my dad apparently had a Samoyed cross as a kid that you couldn't see sleeping in the snow covered over. Seen huskies on the TV doing the same, no kennel just staked out on a windy hill end 🏔️

Is it safe to say it’s a gimmick

What could be left of the old blood if it was there in the first place, with all the over breeding and outcrossing, the Brittany and Picardy are already right at the back of the Peds, in the time most people have had one dog. Some cracking looking dogs mind

He said himself that he had put Picardy into the line !

    Cheers.

Yeah, advertised them crossed with all sorts over the years, but they are superior to everything else and can't be recreated with modern crosses ?

  9. Him and his brother have crossed all sorts into these over the years and think people forget. Someone did a DNA test on a pup recently which was interesting and Jeff seemed worked up? not sure how reliable the tests are but there was husky, poodle, Labrador, others that I can't mind, possibly bull? Can't see it now

  10. I was born into salukis, read lurcher books and thought about a few different lurcher types, but a saluki litter came up at Consett and I got a fawn dog. The parti at home was alright with no training but a Muppet with other dogs. I trained my fawn like I'd read in the lurcher books and he was fine with other dogs but much more independent ?
