It would be very worthwhile to get hold of some Falcon Accuracy Plus or JSB Exact Jumbo RS both of which are light, flatter flight and suit springers as I have established in .177 versions. Phil

Thoughts On The Brocock Compato Please
philpot replied to RSVNelly's topic in General Airgun Discussion
If you want to save some cash Shaun, I will be selling my Utramax .177 which you can tune to your hearts content and it is in camo.......................... Phil -
Yes, in the UK we are allowed to own / use air rifles with a maximum 12 ft/lbs. Over this power level, you will need a Firearms License. Phil

This year has been broken down into many parts with different commitments and projects, some very enjoyable and some a pain in the arse but on a shooting aspect the year has thrown up some very rewarding and interesting things. I have done a little streamlining of my shotguns, moving on a couple that did not meet up to what I now require in my guns and adding a semi auto which a year ago, I would not have put into the frame at all but as my clay shooting and pigeon/corvid shooting have quite different demands and so my guns have, for the time being, changed to a point that I am reasonably

First call is your local gun shop and check what he sells and the price for a slab (250 cartridges). The prices will vary for different types and to be honest as you are just starting out, I would not buy into the top competition brands. The other thing to bear in mind is that many clay shooting clubs will sell cartridges cheaper than the shops so well worth looking at. The advantage of joining a clay shoot is that you will have a great place to learn, picking up a little help from others as well as getting the low down on where to buy at the best prices if not at the club itself. If you d

Thoughts On The Brocock Compato Please
philpot replied to RSVNelly's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I have to be honest and say that despite the ribbing I got from a few on here when I stated very clearly that I was going to get a Compatto. Well after I put one to the shoulder, I was seriously disappointed, just did nor sit well in the shoulder, crappy plastic stock and believe when I say I really really wanted one but just didn't like it at all. You have to be fair about these things and say there are a number of very satisfied owners out there although I have seen a few almost new ones up for sale so perhaps didn't meet the demands of the owner. I see the bug has bitten good style Nelly, I thought you were skint anyway. Phil -
The Compatto had it's issues at the start but there are quite a number of very happy users out there now, the new follow on gun, the Bantam offers a Rapid/ R10/ Impact type of gun which I feel tick a lot of boxes for many shooters. Price will be the all important factor with this gun. I like the options that are on offer especially the carbon fibre bottle and the shot count that goes with it. It will be interesting to see how this develops but I would not buy one of the new models for a while until Brocock/Daystate has had time to iron out the issues that seem to go with most new guns laun

Nelly,s Hw100Kt Stock
philpot replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
What a lovely stock to start with but now after Jimmy has cast his fairy dust over it, just stunning, simply stunning. Phil -
I would like to hear the response to that question Si...... Phil

I have been offered a cocker spaniel Mark, a Crufts champion no less, broke a tooth so no more showing but at 5 years old, a little old to start training I think despite the fact that it is free. It is difficult to explain Mark but the cottage sticks into the field on 3 sides with 3' walls and the drive sweeps into the rear patio with no gate or fence. The cost of installing a suitable fence and gates run into a few grand because the last thing I want is not to be able to look across the field with a high fence so we are talking custom made wrought iron or similar and to be honest, is it w

Or put it on the Wildcat, plenty of shots per fill, just right for a night's ratting. Phil

I popped into my local RFD today for a coffee while I was in Scunthorpe and told him what we were thinking of doing, he smiled, then disappeared in the back and came out with this. £50 which is spot on. I have not bought it yet as we are as a matter of interest going to see what sort of deals are on offer if he can trade in for a gun with adjustable stock but at least we have one stashed if that is the route we are taking. Thanks for looking out chaps. Phil

Thank you very much Simon. We were going to leave things for a while but to be honest, the house seems empty without any cats so we are trying to sort a couple of young cats and kittens from a rescue centre but we are not the only ones wanting these particular cats so it is a waiting game. Trish, my wife, has been really down since the loss of Sylvie and with Christmas coming up, it would be wonderful if we can them for the holiday period as it will lift all our spirits. Fingers crossed Phil

I agree John, this time of the year, money is always tight with everyone's budget being stretched. A good time to buy but not to sell. I think I may be onto a stock at a good price..........fingers crossed Phil

Nice to get out Steg, I am stir crazy at the moment and sooooo wanting to be off with the gun. Today..................booked the range for the day to zero 4 guns as they have all had scope changes and two have not been tried at any distance. A phone call from my son in law telling me that the garage will be closed for new ramps fitting after today and as my car needed MOT testing next week, it had to be done today or go somewhere else. I didn't want to find another garage and after a night of -6 degrees, it was perhaps a better bet to give it a miss......................ice on the inside o

What Pressure Do You Store Your Pcp At ?
philpot replied to mark williams's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Interesting topic. So far, I have not set my guns to a given pressure for storage but as I now have a few more which may not get used through the winter, perhaps it needs some thought. Had this topic not come up, I would have left them at whatever pressure they were left at. It is however unlikely, now that I think about it, that they will not be used even if only at the indoor range or outdoor range, depending on how cold it is so I doubt that any of them will just sit unused for the winter period. Thanks John It is just too much for him at the moment, for a little more than that he could possibly part ex the gun for another with lower stock. I have had a PM from a guy in Devon who can change this stock into an adjustable stock for £60 but it will still need to be reduced in height. We will just wait and see what comes up over the next few days and then see what we have available,it is always tricky spending someone else's money but I feel we will find a solution sooner or later and I am going to take his gun to the RFD to see just what would be a part ex value so he can at least
