Ordinary joe bloggs does not give a shit about hunting and if in all it's forms are banned i honestly think its dyeing out on its own nobody in the company i work with are interested in any form of hunting or fishing for that matter where as when i worked at the pit 40 years ago their was a large majority that were into whippet racing pigeon racing fishing rabbiting coursing shooting digging following beagles you name it when you reach a certain age it's a gutter to see how things and society has changed.

  6. It’s that time of year . The last days of the season are almost upon us . The guys who “ make it happen “ are given their chance to shine. A thank you from the shoots they help throughout the season. I have gone from being a keeper to loader and host . I have got 4 days , the 27th, 28th , 30th and 31st . My expectations are more modest than they would have been in previous years. But AI and the lack of birds have meant that there will be less to shoot at. But I am not downhearted. Far from it . I am raring to go . My absence from the forum rec

My grandmother used to tell me tails of her Father and brothers who were poachers and the run ins they had as I nine year old I was memerorized by these stories and even though I never met them as they had passed away before I was born they were my heroes.

  11. The dog I had that passed after , I felt zero affinity for for in comparison and was killed by a collision against a gate down the beam . He was bought in as an adult , and wa dead by end of the season . The dog I referenced as going out in his shield , fen , was 12 , a very well bred strong coursing type . He developed a heart condition in his late years , and was restricted to lead walks , which was killing him in the fields unable to chase the other clowns about , one day he was particularly lethargic in coming around , early winter , nice frost on the ground as I walked over the fields at

I was a digging enthusiast for almost 30 years, and in all that time, you could count on 2 hands the amount of gear we culled,...they were always released unharmed,...the next time you met a adversary that had been dug before,it was a much more intense beast, for it knew what was approaching from above..

  16. Ive had several running dogs damage their legs.... One bitch broke her leg , running the deer,...and I had it repaired, at the Royal, College of Veterinary Surgeons. She was fitted with a Titenium Metal plate and plenty of metal screws,...folk used to joke that she was worth more in scrap, than anything else? Well, facts were, she was worth a whole lot more to me as a worker, so the £80.00 fee was a bargain. I ran her for a couple more seasons , then one night,.pursuing quarry, we attracted the attentions of the enemy,..and their Land Rover,.pretty soon bent that old metal

  17. Unless you’re in view of the public (not a great idea even before the new ban) you just need reasonable reason to have a dog with you. My take if it happened in the same circumstances in England would be I would carry on as usual and just make damn sure I was discreet and always had purse nets or long nets on me and just say the dog is for marking should anyone every question it. This law has very little really to do with rabbits it’s about killing fox hunting once and for all, hatred for the toffs that ride. If you’re sensible I think ferreting can carry on as before but lamping is done for,

If I was a shooting / stalking man, I’d be very worried about how very incompetent/ inconsequential / unconsidered the likes of BASC / SACS appear to have been throughout this process . id imagine there will be a few awkward moments in the meetings when they realise how absolutely unimportant they are in comparison to the extent they believe they are .

  23. No I didn’t see it . he returned from a run on the lamp where his quarry escaped into a wood and he followed , my buddy said he looks like he’s limping , and got his breath back , he became very agitated and knawing at his foot . We walked on and he became listless , and eventually collapsed . Carried him to the motor , and home where he fitted all the way back so violently I didn’t expect him to live . Straight to vet where he began seizures again and assessment. His leg was elephantine sized by now . A South African vet at the practice resumed his care in the morning and immediately sa

  28. The View From My Swim Today consisted of my good friend standing on the opposite bank wondering just what had taken his trotted maggots on a size 14 to 4lb line and centre-pin reel This view remained unchanged for half an hour as the fish did what it liked . During this time l made it across a bridge , negotiated floodwater and a bit of a bog to see if l could lend a hand. Or at very least get a glimpse of the beast before it came off. When l did catch sight of it l simply announced that it was huge without mentioning the species . If he knew what he'd latched onto a

  29. This happened 4 yrs ago today.....came up on me Google memory.... He was on his way to being my best ever rabbit lamping dog. Half way through only his 3rd season, only starting to hit his prime. Normally an injury like this would have ment PTS but he was my young sons dog and that just wasn't an option. He never fully recovered and it definitely stopped him ever reaching his potential. I actually didn't lamp him for over a yr after the break. He still hunts a bit, day time mooching and an odd nights lamping but it usually means a few days lame after. Any one else hang on to a dog with a

Honestly tanks really arnt all their cracked up to be. What many don't understand is the logistics side of war. Everyone thinks tanks are great....till you look at transportation, fueling, ammo, replacement parts, specialize training on and on and on.. that VS a few gopnicks running around with javelins ...... Or hell just good ole RPG's And honestly when it comes down to it you can go to any half

  36. A few years back,.I had a Terrier enthusiast stay with me. He was based in Ireland, and used a robust type of Sealyham Terrier mix,...to dig the Badgers... He made a point of telling me, how they always released the quarry once the dog had worked it well, and only dispatched them, if the Farmer requested it. Tom was a really nice guy,...I taught him Mole Trapping (what a waste for an Irish pester, eh?) and I also showed him how to cull a colony of Prairie Dawgs? In return, he offered me the hunting holiday of a lifetime,....sadly,.I never crossed the sea to accept his ho
