As the chickens are all shut in under flu regs as the moment I havnt been round the sheds ,no point no chickens out so no killing or so I thought .Phone rang yesterday morning with an excited farmer on the phone telling me a fox had dug into a shed and killed 300 + birds ! Well can’t have that can we so after hearing about the ordeal again and again and being told the fox only took one about 30 times I agreed to turn out on a cold night ,all alone and see what I could do . Why do farmers have to exaggerate so much ?I get there mid afternoon and the farm hands are clearing up the huddle

Back up at my mates farm this afternoon, firstly to have a look for a doe, I did see one with a buck but it never offered a shot and I had to let it cross the beck onto next doors land and secondly to take a young lad out with me that in the near future will be putting in for his FAC so wants as much experience with different calibres as he can, today was the .17 and hares were on the menu. No mate it’s actually not .If I lost my firearms tomorrow Id be hunting something following day by some means .If it’s in you it’s in you no getting away from it . If your life had taken you on a different path and you could /wanted to own a firearm you’d still be out doing it just lawfully .The difference is only a stroke back in time that takes you on one path or another . While I've been prepping the full Sunday roast here this morning I decided to knock up Tuesdays tea, well part of it. I knock up my own hot sticky wing mix and like them to marinate for at least 48 hours. These will be had with sour cream, corn on the cob and homemade garlic bread. Tomorrow will be cold beef cuts and bubble and squeak left over from tidays roast.

I have a mooch around local woods every day of the week with my geriatric lurcher and the catapult but in all honesty if i was bang at it in today's climate i would think twice about putting certain things on an internet forum. Sadly you do everything legal and on permission, many of us still enjoy the countryside much as we did in the good old days and one of the main reasons that’s possible is we don’t plaster it all over the net, drive the land, travel in gangs or rise to the challenge of a grand bet that would never be honoured, it’s not a case of worrying what others think it’s about just being happy with your little lot without the need for adulation from others, ?
