Nowadays, its a noisy old world, and a young lurcher is going to be faced with many strange sights and sounds... I've mostly kept dogs that. by necessity, will have to do their work in the public gaze, whether it be a solitary rabbit, in a vast commercial greenhouse, or perhaps a rat hiding under a householder's bed ! Same when checking out a massive industrial factory for longtails, or an urban Fox, a working pup will have to run the gauntlet of noisy machinery, and get amongst the trash and debris, to find and bolt, or kill his quarry.. These places are not for the faint hea5 points

Working in Northallerton today, was forecast 34 but where we were working with no breeze and full sun it tipped 38 by half 1 so sacked it off, meant to be 38 tomorrow so giving it a miss ? because it will definitely be over 40 where we’re working, the Bricky is still going, he loves it, uses factor 10 he might as well use chip fat the nutter4 points

Pharaoh Hound= fast , barky idiots. Manic hunters of anything that moved , including blue tits on the wing . Well the ones l've had the misfortune to have anything to do were. And,er, ahem "unamenable to close control ." I have scars on my hand from the time one of the stupid hounds goaded a well behaved alsation into a fight . The Pharaoh hound missed the Alsation and ripped my hand. And kept ripping it. The Alsation missed the hound , and its teeth hit the bone in my arm. It immediately realised it had made a mistake and let go but l still have the scars Not too kee3 points

Feel for you mate. As long as she is eating and drinking and getting about okay then I would carry on with her. I have the same dilemma with our 20 year old russell but he still dodders about and seems happy enough. As sid g said to me on another forum, you will know when it's time.3 points

Out on the barley stubble this morning to thin out some corvids. Very quiet but the field was shot yesterday by another gun so expected. I had a young roe buck stood amongst the decoys at one point only 10 yds away. Ended up on 46 but really pleased with my shooting this morning shooting very well pulling down some rangey crows ? Red hot by mid morning with nothing moving so off home. Shot this weird vulture looking jackdaw ?2 points

Very sorry I've been there many times. Trouble is dogs are very stoic and its hard to see exactly what they are going through. I would do it sooner rather than later. Its no more to a dog than a trip for a minor operation. Stay with her and keep it together and tell her she is a good girl as she drifts off. I wish they did it for people. Awful time I feel for you.2 points

I occasionally see or read a lament by champions of rare breeds, often the British or Irish KC terriers, bemoaning the fact that "their" dogs, our native breeds, are dying out but people cannot get enough of cross breeds and foreign imports. 2 things spring to mind. 1, the prices that they charge. Even before the Covid induced crazy increase in prices for all dogs to feed/take advantage of the market for peoples strange desire to suddenly want to own a dog the breeders of these sorts of terriers were asking several £1000 a pup. These people are supposedly passionate about keeping their be2 points
