I once put up a post "Are Pures Really Pure" ? Relating to Deerhounds and Greyhounds. Deerhounds of course had an influx of greyhound blood, sanctioned by the kennel club, ostensibly to prevent them becoming to "cloddy" and becoming undishinguisable from Irish Wolfhounds. But long before, when the invention of the sporting gun meant their job of coursing and catching deer became obsolete, there was in addition of "nose" from various other breeds, to enable them to track wounded quarry. The Greyhound, as we know had bull blood added in the 1800's by Lord Orford to his coursing dogs, s5 points

No idea mate, only seen one fell hound cross, almost fifty years ago. A mate of mine got it as an adult dog. Had it out many times on a long lead, it would find hares no problem......first time he slipped it , it disappeared into the distance , howling like a hound and was never seen again ! Cheers.2 points

That's something that has always puzzled me. The Am Staff is an AKC registered APBT, so how do they have discernible different DNA when they test these things?2 points

Well a day of 2 halves today , out at 4.30 am and managed a murder buck , good one to take off the ground as could do serious damage in the rut. Then in the afternoon I sat on a barley stubble, not many birds about but what there was decoyed fantastic.2 points

Mid to late eighties a lot of the dog lads got their hands on antibiotics and it seemed like they’d use any excuse to use them on the dogs to the extent the antibiotics became useless, salt and water is my favoured treatment, pick any scabs off when they’ve almost dried out and clean again with salt water till wounds are healed, never failed me and dogs soon recover, atb2 points

Only a matter of time before something bad happens with one of them things.Ive seen too many soppy little gangster wannabes that shouldn't even be allowed to own an animal trying there hand at protection work with these scatterbred mutts.Shows how money can come before any kind of morals that certain protection trainers/decoys will even entertain them.2 points

Not one person I've talked to today agrees with sharing the gold medal for the high jump. They can't call themselves "Olympic Champion" as neither actually won ! Best they should have had was a silver medal each, but that would still have been a cop out. There should have been a "jump off" to decide the winner. Cheers.2 points

I'm sure it does, but I heard it falls, mainly, on the plain. ? Cheers.2 points

Does it matter? I find this conversation daft. It's been debated for years and years and the simple consensus (that everyone agrees on) is dogs are Lupids, so the same family branch as wolves. Which species they came from will never be answered. Imo (and it means sweet fa because I'm not a paleolithic veterinary expert) is probably all species of wolf have given rise to dog breeds and then the descendents have interbred over the millennia to get where we are. Same as humans ?????2 points

There's a German video on YouTube of someone training jagd to retrieve to the gun, earth work etc too with the same dog. Don't they have to pass working tests over there to be bred from2 points
