You talk / write like someone trying to come across as smarter / more educated than they are. It grates. Just talk like you, and be normal without the weird as f*ck self Promotion and wannabe Plummer book entries. “The saluki long dog is a mythical beast blah blah blah”. No one cares mate. Just be you, every one else is taken.7 points

?Its a difficult choice to make,...its been a long old life with lurchers...? Regarding lurchers,.. I seem to have undergone a sequence of evolutionary changes over the years, and what suited me then,.sure wouldn't suit me now..? One type of hunter that I feel might possibly fill the bill, would be Mercedes... She was a good old stick, bred me some nice pups and got me the cash to put down on my little house... We worked together for several years, and her efforts sure did help in paying the Mortgage... I valued her assistance financially, but I never really liked her7 points

I thought I’d share the view from my truck this morning . I’m parked in the top corner with my back to the pen , which overlooks a 4 acre field which has recently been cut for hay . Apart from a badger and some deer it was a quiet night. I did however spot a fox which moved across the bottom hedge , but didn’t reappear, so there is one about. I dare say he will be along tonight. It usually happens on the second night . I’ve got to say these birds settled into the pen well and are back off the wire and by the look of it a lot are already roosting.5 points

100% mate! They are defy very different. Its hard to trust a dog around hill sheep unless they have grown up around them. They look very different to a lowland sheep, usually not in a flock, move different and just pop up from no where. They must smell different as I had a hound who would ignore lowland sheep but would hunt the line of hill ewes to start with until she worked it out. I dont tend to trust dogs that are really switched on to deer around any sheep in the heat of the moment to be honest.3 points

And nobody could afford a doctor, diet and conditions were poor and life expectancy was probably 20 years less than it is now ? All a guess by the way, I have not looked up facts and figure ?3 points

Been reminiscing of dogs i have had and seen in the past one dog comes to mind even though i did not own it i believe it was a mix of saluki / greyhound and collie and his blood was in lucky the dark destroyers pedigree way back . A big strong dog that could take any edible quarry and loved a fox its the type of dog i would love around me if i was to live off grid on a remote island surrounded by edible quarry.3 points

? It just goes to show you that if you are out of the loop, kinda thing, then topic such as prices for running dogs, are a bit of a mystery..? Locally , we have always had quite a plethora of whippets, both Hard Blood, Non-Peds, and KC Registered Pedigree Whippets. Several rabbiting/mouching lads that I know, have gone over to these diminutive speedsters, and they all seem quite pleased with them... ? Times are 'a changing, in the Field sports world,..and many enthusiasts are enjoying the rabbit as their main quarry... Obviously, the working whippet takes to the Coney catch3 points

I know others will disagree, but my old dog was 100% with sheep, lambs, cattle etc, until I started him on deer. Then I had to be doubly on top of him afterwoods. Was real hard work. Forgot to say, a couple of years later, I had a similar experience with another similarly bred dog I had.2 points

A few years ago I went off in March on a fishing trip in the old camper van we had. In the morning there was frost on the inside of the windows. The cat was not impressed! Next night I remembered to turn the heating on. We've survived down to -6C in Spain in winter. There's a lot to be said for gas when camping.2 points

Guto Harri has been taken off due to his "taking the knee" live on screen. He threw his co-presenter, Mercy Mokuri, a black woman, under the bus by inviting her to also take the knee, tellling her " there's plenty room at the side of the sofa". I watched it and she was quite obviously upset by it, as she has consistently said she does not agree with it ! I would imagine Andrew Neil is quite pissed off about it, and I hope he has the balls to sack Harri. GB News has been beset by sound and continuity problems, but has been sorting them out, it'll be a shame if it turns out2 points

I couldn’t agree more . I had hoped it would be a balanced, ok , slightly right of centre channel that allowed common sense journalism to flourish. But it’s just like all the other sh@te.2 points

? lol ? Well, for me I think a deer/collie/grey or deer/whippet/grey, or a mix of both, would suit me. I like the nature etc of these types/crosses. I just seem to get on better with them. May I be so bold as to enquire what your thoughts are on type/cross of dog you prefer, Magoo? ? ? ?2 points

Yeah, I only ever cleared and wholesaled to trade for years mate, then that changed because of cheap new imports, service became a big part of it simply because you have that knowledge and before you knew it I was working for a living ! Haha I never understood it because the margin in used was amazing but I guess they didn’t want the expenses of having to store it and lay their money out. Much simpler to just order what you need as you want it from a “manufacturer” who is shipping it in from China. Their dads made all the real money out of used and they just took a wage out of ne2 points

The rest of the birds arrived today. The game farmer held on to them for me so that they can be released in decent weather. They should have gone to wood 10 days ago so they were a little bit scruffier than he would have liked but I would rather that than release them to wood in the pissing down rain . All good so far . I’m sleeping in the truck next to the pen for the next couple of nights . If Charlie shows up he is in for a surprise.??2 points
